Anyone know if a bookstore that will take used English books and have some sort of credit or exchange system so you can get other books in their place, in Warsaw? Thank you.

Yes I think you can try the American Bookstore.

If not you can certainly ask them or email them to enquire about somewhere that might. Good place to start. ;)

Are there any UK bookshops (as opposed to US) in Warsaw? I know of one in Plac Bankowy. Just thinking about a couple of great authors I discovered recently - ironically, one of them was by buying a book at Okęncie to read on the way back to the UK when I was going back to pack things up.

There is a second hand english bookstore in the University building on Dobra . ( go in the front door, down the stairs & past a few shops, then it's on your right ).

They have a lot of stock so not sure if they are buying or exchanging books yet , but they certainly have lots of very reasonably priced english books.

Magdalena is right - it's a good shop. There's also the Sue Ryder shop on Bagatela - that's where diplomats take their old books. A charity shop rather than an exchange, but the books only cost 9zl so not a big problem. Sometimes they've a big selection, sometimes hardly any - it depends who's brought/bought books.

Yo can also join the British Council Library - they've a small selection (better in Poznań) and some public libraries have a foreign language section, but you need to have a zameldowanie.

Is it true the British Library in the BC building is not there any more? I checked the British Council website and it seems it moved to a public library somewhere in Praga?

the bc library moved to goclaw at meissnera 5... not very central. as far as your english books why not donate them to the library on Zelazna? I use that library and I am almost through with all of the readable books they have:) and as well you can become a member for free

I just saw this shop near the metro Politechnika on Nowowiejska(I think, I am sure about the metro station though.....).....they sell second hand clothes ( cheap) and in the window I saw a collection of english books for sale. They were extremely cheap ( by European standards) - cost 5 zl per book - and the books were on various topics ( including some by my fave authors also)....

Nice find - I hope its not a one-time thing......
