People don't visit your Edinburgh because the natives go around smiling all day and it's not the reason they visit Kraków either.

May my remark was misundersood. I meant that people generally have some kind of prejudice about foreigners. E.g. they are worry about their job to be taken by foreigners, or sg like that. Despite this, they can smile or not it doesn't matter if they have a general attitude towards foreigners :)

I hope nobody misunderstands my words. I only think that, there are some more open-minded nations who do not care with where you're from (!Vancouver!)

People in Poland don't smile or laugh much, miserable bunch. Last time I saw someone really laughing was an Irish man on the bus in Warsaw. Everyone looked as if they wanted to kill him because he was happy. Other peoples misfortune and cruelty seems to make Polish people happy though.

having lived in Krakow for 3 years I don't know of any such club for foreigners...just bars etc where people go and watch sport etc...thats how most meet if not through work connections.

the only bad thing about krakow is the weekend stag do's...they bring a bad name to the english...the rest of the week is fabulous NO drunken english or not many at least

on the weekends around the rynek the main language you hear is english...i moved because it's pisssed me off so much but after being away from krakow for 3 months i'm moving back i still miss it so much :)

Ive been in and around krakow for almost 7 yrs here, and as a professional musician, I have seen my fair share of the world, and I must state that Krakow is one of the best, and If not one of the safest major cities in the world.

Its the moon unit, lager filled drunk Stag parties that have screwed up Krakow for expats and natives alike. It will slowly return to normal, but tension and "foreigner distrust" has certainly risen here as a result!

I have been to Krakow 12 times. My wife is from Krakow. We go over to visit family and friends, whilst there we stay with my mother in law, we live as a polish family and it is a very good way to live. Krakow is a beautiful city with very friendly people, with the two main markets you will find the cost of living very cheap compared to here.

BIKE:
Cracow is a bit underdeveloped as far as cycle lanes are concerned.
There is one bicycle path that goes along the city and is bearable, and this is the one along the Vistula River. and the Wawel Castle/

It runs to Tyniec Church in the west and Nowa Huta district in the east.
Basically there is just one cycle path in each district that leads to strict city centre.
However, if you decide to ride your bike in the streets better get yourself a good life insurance before leaving.

SMILING
True - we don't smile too often. In this way, once we smile, it has some significance. (very much unlike Americans who are taught from cradle to smile 24/7 and eventually land in shrinks' offices).

have a good time in Cracow :)
