So.... 2 weeks ago I went in to renew my 3 month zameldowanie which expires on April 29

The lady at counter #2 gave me the form and put an X where the owner of the flat is to sign. I asked if he needs to come into the UM again and show his documents.

She said "no" as I am renewing before the expiration date.

I confirmed this with her 3 times. She didn't speak English, but we understood eachother.

I took the form home.

I met with the owner over the weekend, he signed the form.

I went in this morning armed with all my documents.

Went up to counter #4 and the girl spoke some English, lucky me.

I told her I want to renew, and presented my documents.

She said that I cannot do it before it expires, but I must come in 2 days after it expires.

Now get this- I don't need to come in, but just the owner of the flat, with his documents along with my passport and the form.

I explained to the clerk that the lady at counter 2 told me contrary information. The clerk said I could go over and ask her why she gave me the wrong info and also put an X in the wrong box.

So I left the UM without any success. :(

Even better that 2 days after the expiry of my Zamel is May 1. Official Holiday. I was told to return on the Monday. I can't wait for them to tell me that it is too many days after the expiry and have even more difficulties.

ahhhhh gotta love this country where every law is interpreted every different way by every different official on every different day.

Yeah, the wind is blowing west today btw ;) If that helps, you know.

I got lucky. My landlord is a somebody here, most people know him. He told them in no uncertain terms not to faff about as he was summoned back once again. Needless to say, it was dealt with expeditiously and no further questions were asked.

They need to slow down, reflect and stop gulping away.

I had similar problems in that I couldn't renew until the old one expired, so I just asked to cancel my existing one and then did a new one which solved the problem.

Whether the building owner is required in person or not does seem to be dictated by the wind direction as Seanus suggests... :-) I needed the building owner the first time, but not on subsequent occasions (which surprised me).

/\ yes!! why did 1 clerk say "NO" and another says "YES"? I really should have gone in with a native pole. :S

i never thought about canceling my active Zamel.

I thought this ancient form was to have been phased out as of 2009.

It's funny that ppl say you don't need it...but when you need to do offical biznez you are 99% required to show it.

what a backwards system

Registration is not strictly enforced anyway. I was supposed to get it within 90 days of setting foot in Poland. I waited 3 years, not 3 months.

I went with the owner of my apartment. I had to: I own my apartment. But they wouldn't let me give myself permission to live in my apartment because I didn't have the notarial deed proving I had legally bought the apartment. I did have a letter from them to me telling me how much property tax I (as the owner of the property) would have to pay for that year but that wasn't good enough for the two ladies. So I asked how long I'd go to prison for for not having a maldunek. They said I wouldn't. I asked what the fine was for not having a maldunek. They said there wasn't was one. I asked if they had malduneks. They refused to answer. I left without a maldunek.
