I waas not spreading************before that. In fact, it was Telefonitika who wrote...'apparently 80% of the U.K. population is Polish anyway it was on a radio station news bulletin'. How can 80% of the U.K. population be Polish?

i merely pointed out Something that was stated on the radio that i had heard! plus it was on bbc radio 2!

i was not stating that i think 80% of the uk population is polish ok

lisa not forgot about the sheets i was doing you hun moved house and lost my printer usb cable to scan the info :( will get to you soon chick

You do, as I would like to quote what you have written above, 'Anyone says that everyone in the UK should learn Polish'.

I think what he meant here was that:
"No one says that everyone in the UK should learn Polish"

I'm thinking of the word "nikt" here in polish which can be translated as "anyone" or "no one" depending on the context.

Hmm, and I suspect that that 80% of telefonitika's might possibly be 8%...?

Has anyone even began to contemplate that perhaps, just mabye, the radio report was a JOKE? It aggrevates a lot of people that the UK is tyring to accomodate Polish people, and so they exaggerate and joke about the number of polish people actually living here. Like, for instance, I work in a supermarket. They now have a whole section for polish food. The amount of sarky comments Ive heard about this has been pretty shocking. Like, "English food will be a minority section soon."

Noone has to learn anything they don't want to. But learning a new language is pretty cool.

However, that is exactly what you said.

I work in a supermarket. They now have a whole section for polish food

Yes, in fact we have a section in our local Tesco store here in Guildford. Perhaps you also work for the same supermarket? I expect in fact that Telefonitika has a limited understanding of English and did not understand what was being said. Talking about the Polish Language-you do not even need Skype, there are many excellent books on the market, one of them was B. Mazur, Colloquial Polish series though it has been rewritten since my copy came out in the early 1980's. I have a copy and read the book before taking G.C.S.E. Polish in London and got an A so it can be done. I might go to Prague next so will learn Czech too. These languages are not very difficult to learn.

think i will keep my mouth shut in future -- all i commented on was what i had heard on the radio

I expect in fact that Telefonitika has a limited understanding of English and did not understand what was being said

..... mmmmm ... considering i am 100% british born and bred i give up with this forum i really do!!!

"NOW" he puts down the Polish saying they have bad grammer and spelling..

uh, Ahem!!! dork, please try to refrain from commenting at tele's comments
because you just opened up mouth and inserted foot!!

who said you were the English teacher of the forum anyway??

As the Alice Cooper says!! Schools out for summer!!!

My question is why should anyone in the U.K. have to learn Polish?

why shouldnt they? especially since its going to be long term..

learning any language is a plus. especially where it concerns the job market.

I have never been a teacher. I said that in the year 2000 I completed a course in teaching English to speakers of other languages called TESOL with the board Trinity College, London. I have a certificate but have never taught. I tak, jestem bardzo bardzo przystojny i inteligentny.

but from your 'name' telefonitika

its my id on the net and happened to be my tag from college when i studied music technology (dj-ing side)
but how my name "telefonitika" made me seem polish is blaffling but oh well.

your bad spelling and English grammar

i feel offended slightly considering i got a grade C in english and a B in the coursework but the odd spelling/grammar mistake is only human after all i AINT perfect.

Wiem że on jest przystojny, inteligentny i trudno mu sie oprzeć, ale czy powinien on być tylko twój?Telefonitika

i believe this was geared to me or maybe i am wrong??????

im blaffled ... <rolls eyes>

There is nothing posh or arrogant about a Tesol certificate-it is the most basic level of teaching qualification that exists and I have never worked in this field of work and I never started this discussion in the first place though I can not remember who it was. End of this discussion please.

There is nothing posh or arrogant about a Tesol certificate

just as tele was explaining how she "HEARD" and you took it to levels of
making her feel badly by correcting her grammer and then also bringing in the
"you must be Polish" to top the cake..

its easy to make a mistake, thats all you had to say. just try to be less degrading
next time, because behind all these computers, are real humans... that you dont
need a cert for.. "to be human that is".

I want to write/read/speak fluent Polish!

If You'd like to speak it fluent... move to Poland for a couple of months.

I waas not spreading************before that. In fact, it was Telefonitika who wrote...'apparently 80% of the U.K. population is Polish anyway it was on a radio station news bulletin'. How can 80% of the U.K. population be Polish?

That's BS, You messed it all up. It's true there's many poles in the UK, more than 1M in London itself. But 80% of the UK, that's complete nonsense.

If you have a hobby and want learn polish you can try to find a polish site/forum for that hobby and read polish or write polish/english replays. Polish members should be happy to get bilingual (or wanted to be bilingual) next friend as they mostly weak in english. Much weaker than me, so lack of english is still a hard obstacle for them to get advanced info, literature which mostly spraded at net in english.

You should keep in mind the speak fluent is most advanced level.
My friend after 5 years live in Canada lost his fluent polish when he come back to Poland for a short visit when he was 26 years old.

So fluent speaking is a matter of practise and is not absolutely necessary for fine communication.

However, that is exactly what you said.

She stated that she heard it on the radio. For someone that claims to be intelligent, you seem to have difficulties reading and comprehending simple English.

There is nothing posh or arrogant about a Tesol certificate

You're right, there isn't. I would hardly accuse you of being qualified.

To all those that want to learn Polish, good luck because it is not an easy language to learn :)
Spend some time on it everyday if you can (even 10min a day decomposing grammar and structure will help).

Try this link. There are 54 'lessons' comprising nearly 200 sentences in Polish with their English translations. It's not interactive and there are no audio files but it will demonstrate to you how Polish sentences can be constructed.
