Merged: Advice on learning the polish alphabet
Hi
Just wondered if someone could offer some advice on learning the polish alphabet. I think this maybe the key to helping my reading skills of polish if i can pronounce every letter correctly. My speaking is getting good now but my reading relies on remembering pronunciation and its not always good. My Learning CD doesn't practice the alphabet or letter sounds maybe there would be a mp3 i could down load of the internet? and listen to over and over again.

I can get you a copy of the c.d. I have which starts with the alphabet
Can't find anything in the Language/grammar section?
I thought there were some links. Here to start...I'll look for an audio in the mean time...I saw one somewhere
ą - the nasal sound of the French word "on"
ć (or a "c" before an "i"- similar to the 'ch' in 'cheat', but without rounded lips
ę - the nasal sound in the French word "vin"
ł - an English "w" (!)
ń - "ny" like "onion"
ś (or an "s" before an "i") similar to "sh", but without rounded lips
ż -the last sound in "mirage" or the French "j"
ź - (or a "y" befor an "i") similar to the last sound in mirage or the French "j", but without rounded lips
ALSO NOTE,
y = the short "i" as in "big"
i = the "ee" in "feet"
ó - the "oo" sound in "fool" (the same sound as "u

my level one course started in november and lasts till july this year and is a one lesson a week 2 hours long. We cover the following areas in the first year : reading and listening mainly -- speaking and writing are mainly covered in depth in 2nd year.
true on one lesson a week not enough my lessons are at 7-9pm on a thursday and sometimes the brain is going to sleep :)
do you have GG yet? you know the polish messenger? i have it installed and talk to a few people on there :) it helps sometimes :)

I take between 20-30mins to translate the polish into english then english reply in polish before writing on GG ... but some will reply in english you know and will offer to help :)
