Life / The Guardian : Living in Poland [30]

But journalists are only really interested in filling column inches in as interesting a way as possible!

100% true.

Life / Moving to Poland next year, want to bring my Nissan Skyline [46]

Zoogle,

I'm in a similar situation. I want to use my own BMW 5er rather than the company car (a Vectra, Accord or smth like that) in PL, but have too many doubts about it being practical. I don't want to go through the hassle of registering it here (even though it's LHD), but on the other hand, the foreign licence plates would be standing out like a sore thumb in the traffic and when parked in a dark alley - not exactly something I want.

Wonder if it's easy to find a guarded parking place, say, in central Warsaw?

Life / Return period for goods in shops in Poland? [14]

Thanks to all who have contributed, especially Krzysztof with his detailed reply. This was what I had been looking for.

I can see that it was really my luck to get the jeans refunded as 13 days had elapsed from purchase (I am not permanently based in Poland yet, and only had a chance to return this week).

As a comparison, I live in Lithuania, and the issue is regulated in a more favourable way to the consumer here. One can return or exchange most types of goods, without signs of use, within 14 days from the date of purchase. It is the customer who decides if the item must be exchanged or returned for a full refund.

In the case of faulty goods, it is again at the customer's discretion to choose repair, replacement or refund.

Quoting: hello
In Poland - you can buy one item in one store and return it in another I think :).

Try it and find out, but if you get arrested for deceit

Why would that amount to deceit? I am not sure it is legal, but it does look reasonable from a customer satisfaction point of view.

Life / Return period for goods in shops in Poland? [14]

Well, I was lucky in returning the jeans to the shop. Although the stupid sales assistant was hostile to me from the second I told her I had a small problem, her superior was much more understanding and returned the price I had paid with the single question, "Have you got the item here?".

I had bought two pairs of jeans there at an impulse a couple of weeks ago, one turned out to be a poor fit so I was returning it.

And do shops have to accept goods (specifically, unworn clothes) returned for any reason, say, within two weeks from purchase?

I bought something while in PL which turned out not to fit well after all. Is the shop obliged to take it back at my request?

Thanks!

Work / How much can an expat lawyer make in Warsaw? [8]

Don't they tell you the package before you go?

I suppose they will, but I won't know how good or bad the proposal is if I am not familiar with the market conditions.

For those interested, I've been told by a local supposedly in the know that a lawyer or consultant with a multinational company in Warsaw can make anything from PLN 10,000 to x0,000. That's more like it I'd say.

Work / How much can an expat lawyer make in Warsaw? [8]

Thanks for the reasonable comments ukpolska.

The difference from my situation is that I've been qualified for six years now and am not a Polish national, so I'm hoping for somewhat more...

Work / How much can an expat lawyer make in Warsaw? [8]

I would be working for an international company, taking care of legal affairs locally and in some other countries in Central Europe.

What salary levels could I be looking at?

Thanks for any ideas,
