I dont see US losing anything. Sooner or later, they see reason. They may let Poland down, but they will never allow any upstarts to grow too big.

And, if it really hits the fan, as far as I am concerned, we will go down fighting, taking out as many enemies as we can. If we wreck forces of the dark side bad enough, they will become an easy prey for someone else. Be it US, China or whoever. Poland has survived worse things.

Crow, I have read some of your topics, I admire your vision and passion.
But in this case you dont know what you talking about. Russia did seem to be changing for the better during Gorbachov. During Yeltsin it has stopped, but there still was some hope. And the current thug of the president backslided them. Now it is almost Soviet Russia all over again.

Obama's US turned out to be rather unreliable. They have unilaterally broken international treaty without so much as by your leave. What'll stop them from ignoring others. Pieces of parchment, thats all it is, it turned out.

UK won't do squat without USA.
France won't do squat. Period.
Germany... Frankly, the mere thought of Russia invading from east and Germans alone coming with brotherly help from the west gives me creaps.

But Russia is still our most dangerous potential enemy and we cannot base our defence on hope for some sort of second miracle of vistula.

I think thats the reason of signing Lisbon treaty or our recent deals with Sarkozy. To cury some favors with "old Europe" as US seems to be out of the picture. But thats just grasping for straws.

When discussing Russian military a reality check is needed, they're aiming to have 3000 tanks left in line so we can guess thats about the number they have active anyway, in case of war with Poland they still have to have tanks on the border with China, in Georgia, Chechenya and some reserves, so how many tanks would be used? 1500-2000? Poland would face 2-1 odds at most.

The first principle of the military analysis is to figure out how the enemy can hurt you worst with his known capabilities and then to plan to stop him, not hope he won't try it.

You cannot avoid running risks, sometimes, where military operations are concerned, but prudence is a powerful military virtue. And prudence suggests that you err on the side of pessimism, especially BEFORE the shooting starts.
