Life / Problems for Dual Earner Families in Poland (and rest of EU) [19]

natasia

It's highly unlikely I'm going to teach my toddler Latin names of plants and the cell structure. Of course educating your child is a very noble task - but it doesn't mean I want it to be my sole task in life!

I'm pretty sure my kids and my husband would prefer less sophisticated dinner and happy mummy, then freshly baked cake every day and mummy frustrated and depressed.

My mother worked since I was 3, I wasn't harmed by it in any way. Now she's a happy, sociable woman with plenty of friends.

But it very much depends on a person. I would just go mental if I had to stay home every day for years while my husband goes to work. I don't particularly enjoy household duties. I like cooking and baking - but not day after day. I would feel like my whole education is going to waste.

So... each to his (or her!) own.

Love / Why are Polish girls constantly ill? [166]

southern

Yes, because foreign girls don't suffer from headaches or skin problems, they are never allergic to anything, and above all, they do not put on weight! Ever!

...and somehow it's my foreign boyfriend that's always complaining and being ill... :P

Life / Need to get registered for Nip number. [14]

Ahhh, thanks for clearing that up. I was going to apply for my PESEL soon, but I am guessing that, as I don't have my residency card that I can't get it. I was told by someone that I can just pop into the office, fill in the forms and then (after a police visit to confirm adress) they sent you out the PESEL after 2 or 3 months.

Nope, it's not just so simple - the PESEL is given by the Urząd Miasta after you register your address for 5 years. It's usually a two week wait or so to get the PESEL through once you register your address for 5 years.

You can't register for 5 years at the Urząd Miasta without the residency permit issued for 5 years by the relevant Foreigners Office - and so you can't get the PESEL. It can be an utter bureaucratic nightmare getting the 5 year piece of paper too :(

But in so far as I can tell, there's precious little that you need a PESEL for - vehicle and driver licencing would seem to be the only thing that you absolutely must have it for.
