Spot on. I regularly drive on the Gdansk-Warsaw S7 road, and I can say that this is probably the most dangerous road in Europe.

Polands largest ports Gdansk/Gdynia are connected to its capital by a single lane highway (amazing!) The most reckless driving tends to come from the larger luxury end of the car market, esp Audi Q7's, Range Rovers, BMW 7series etc.

Ireland 32 What about the 1 million or so unionists in Northern Ireland? Who by their very definition want to keep the unionification with the crown? How can they be convinced to join a republic? Question :

Ok, I'm not really qualified on the subject but if there was to be a referendum tomorrow in both Northern Ireland and Rep. of Ireland on re-unification, then surely :

Total population of the Island = 5 million, right?

Total no. of loyalists/unionists = less than 1 million.

Therefore, simple maths would say that a referendum for a united ireland should carry by approx 4/5 majority. Am I being too presumptuous?

How long before the 6 counties are majority nationalist/catholic ? Could the Polish in the 6 counties vote? if so I'm sure they could be persuaded to vote for a united ireland.

But, if that carries in the north, then would it automatically carry in the south? I mean, do southern irish citizens really want re-unification?

The Molotov-Ribbentrop (Non-agression pact) signed on the 24 August 1939 was the green light for both Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union to start the War.

Both had very similar expansionist motives. For the USSR it was expanding the communist regime westwards into Europe. For Nazi Germany it was about expanding the 3rd Reich eastwards. Without the signing of this pact, I doubt that the Soviet Union would have invaded Polish territory on 17 Sept 1939.

So the way I see it, both the USSR and Germany were equally complicit in starting WW2.

You can buy new 1 bedroom apartments, approx 40kms from Gdansk area for around that mark. Approx 35-40 sqm. in size. But, this excludes any internal finishes. So you will need to arrange for installation of kitchen, bathroom etc. see the link in english.

1st fix plumbing is there. Floors are screeded, and walls are finished - painted white. Thats it. The rest you do yourself.

I've noticed that too. Lots of them. So technically the car cannot be insured in the UK - as its without tax, and it cannot be registered in Poland because it is RHD. Therefore, these cnuts are driving around illegally.

I see lots of 10+ year old cars that have been bought for say, 3,000-2,000GBP in the UK. Then brought back to Poland and used as run-arounds. Minus the tax disc and tax disc holder.

I just can't believe that they are legal.

Almost anyone in Poland over 35 doesn't speak a word.

Depends on the number of guests and venue. Our's was about that for a 100+ guests, trad music, dancers, free bar, dress, etc etc for 2 days. Definitely much cheaper than the UK.

You might be surprised but Average Annual Snowfall in Warsaw is only : 5.2 inches/ 13 centimeters
This is the urban myth about it snowing all the time in Poland. For some reason everybody thinks its cold/snowy all year round. You will not have any problem with snow in Mokotow. You're more likely to have problems with leaves from trees than snow.


Not really, if you can comfortably drive it in a city. It's gonna offer you more protection from the nutters.


In Mokotow it will most likely be an apartment complex with private / secure parking.

Is it a Catholic Wedding? If so, the church service will be v. familiar. If not, don't worry.

Make sure that the band is good, this is v.important that you have seen them / heard them before. We had traditional Polish music, dancers for the first couple of hours, then the band and everyone on my side liked that.

Also make sure that your English guests don't try to keep up with the Poles drinking vodka. This is hard, and ended in disaster for 2 of my guests! (on the 2nd day one fell flat on his face and smashed his teeth, and the other one got alcohol poisoning)

Is it hotel catering? make sure you choose something your guests can eat. A lot of food served at Polish weddings would be considered inedible by UK standards.

We worried alot before hand about keeping everybody happy, but in the end it all worked out.

If you are a young Polish person between say 18-25 and live in a village then you have to leave - if you have any sort of ambition in life. The only other option is a p!ss poor job, or standing at the local village bus shelter drinking Cherry na Czetery.

Oh dear, oh dear, I see your knowledge of military history is on par with your knowledge of inclement weather.

Britain only had a very small professional army in 1939, called the BEF, You can read all about the Phoney War on Wikipedia, and how The RAF dropped leaflets on Germany to scare them.
