Life / How much Zloty to have an average life in Poland? [98]

Harry,

was planning on about 1800 for rent. Could probably go a bit smaller than 50 sqm too. I've got a relatively open mind about location but my girlfriend says if not Śródmieścze then Lublin is better ;)

Thanks delphiandomine. I don't mind making 4EUR an hour if my living costs are much lower. I plan on studying Polish intensively so I perhaps after a few months I will have a few job options.

thanks esek, I'm not worried about her, just asking for an opinion, which sortof confirms what I've heard.

SzwedwPolsce, thanks for the advice. I don't have a TEFL but I don't really want to do that either. I was thinking that once I've been there six months or something I might know enough to get a job: do my Polish skills need to be approaching native speaker before I can move out of the expat job market? I wouldn't really care if it was 10zl/h doing something menial (though of couse that wouldn't be ideal), because my aim is to assimilate a certain level of Polish-ness, not to be rich.

I am moving to Poland at the end of the year, and I'm going to have a guaranteed income supplement of about 2400pln net per month while I study Polish fulltime (ish). My girlfriend is Polish and thinks that my money combined with her working full time should be enough for a nice small flat that is centre of Warsaw and a reasonable lifestyle. I have a couple of questions:

My girlfriend has got Magister from U.Jagiellonski but she's worried that she won't be able to earn much more than 2500pln a month. Is she under-optimistic about the state of the Warsaw job market?

I don't absolutely need to get a job, but I'd like to work doing something part time after not too long. What sort of job can someone with a good BA, but who can't speak much/any Polish get in Warsaw?

Cheers, Peter
