Travel / Zakopane! At last! Holiday advice visits. [11]

I'm looking for some holiday advice. I'm UK-based travelling to Poland for 2 weeks with my wife, flying to Krakow - first 2 weeks in August. For the 2nd week we plan to visit and stay with friends in Krakow and Wrocław. So we have about 5 days to kill. I was thinking staying in and around Zakopane, doing some walking, cycling, visiting lakes, viewing wildlife or similar. We'd prefer to stay in a lodge or similar, but a good hotel is cool also. I'd welcome any recommendations for where to stay and any suggestion on cool things to do.
