Life / Do Polish vets "fix" animals and if so, what are the prices? [8]

hmm. We have a prego cat. My boyfriends dad said the cat got a shot and that fixed the cat.. yeah right. I have never heard of that one. If the babies are girls they will go drown them and keep the males.. I just want to get the girls fixed.. I pray there will be no girls. :( Anyone want a kitten?

Maybe I should look into vet school.lol.

Life / Culture Shock Since Moving to Poland - Anybody Dealt With This Before? [52]

Poland is the first country I have ever visited and lived in outside of the U.S. I had some kind of shock for the first 2 months. Then again that's because I don't like living in big cities in general, and the first two months I was in Warsaw. My boyfriend is from Poland and lived in the states for 5 years and it was harder for him to adjust. Yeah it sucks trying to learn polish..

My mom is sending me hot sauce, my fav lotion, and who knows what. It will be my first care package. I am stoked. Homesickness if off and on. If I leave, I can never come back, cus thats how cool I am,, more like stupid.

Im lonely everyday.. So I talk to the cat, I garden, and of course talk to friends online:) seems to help:)

Life / How to behave in Poland? General etiquette questions. [30]

Always at all times know where your money is. Don't smile at people. And don't take to much offense if people sit and stare at you in the bus when your not doing anything. If you drive, drive as if you are delivering pizza or a cab driver.

Work / Any non-shafty English schools in Poland to work as an English native speaker? [36]

If I go report them, I will have some teachers and the previous native speaker bring it down with me. Might as well get them super screwed.

A strange thing happened ... I applied at a school in Warsaw December 10th and I got an email from them yesterday for doing a trial lesson and meeting.Wow contacting me 4 months later and they have no idea what's going on...

Taking a train everyday won't be so bad if i get hired, and they might be able to help me with the residency thing:)Who knows.............staying optimistic.

Work / Any non-shafty English schools in Poland to work as an English native speaker? [36]

Why would you work for a school which does this sort of thing?

I was stupid and Naive and it was my second month ever in Poland. And first job. I came to Warsaw and was desperate to leave. I don't like big cities and wanted a place of my own. The school found a furnished apartment for me. Boss told I would get all the legal papers, but it's really time consuming, blah blah, and that there was no paper work or contract until I get those items and he wanted money so i would stay longer...I found out from the previous native speaker, it took the school a year and half to get him legal there.

It's done. I learned from my mistakes, and just wanted to see if this is how most English schools work. I worked part-time at 35zl/hour, if I took around 20zl/hr (what the teachers make) i would have gotten more hours, screw that.

I was there like I said for 2 months. I will now be relocating looking for jobs in Zamosc, with my boyfriend's parents. Then hopefully Lublin in the fall.

I came to Poland with this man with the intention of marrying. And thought getting a job would help it all.Guess we should've done in the states. to late to turn back now

o crap I haven't done my taxes yet.. better file an extension and get papers from the states...doh...
So I just have to be careful with what school I work with! And learn from mistakes:) that's what makes life so much more interesting:)

Work / Any non-shafty English schools in Poland to work as an English native speaker? [36]

The only thing far as paperwork I have is emails of my schedules. Also at every class I had to fill out a record stating I was there and the name of the lesson with my signature, Im not sure how to get my hands on those, Maybe from some teachers. I have teachers and students I know would defend the situation. Just not enough paperwork. All pay was in Zloty cash. no checks, no banks. And I'm not rich to get a lawyer and all that jazz.

I only worked there for 2 1/2 months. So its all 09'.
Maybe I can write an email to the school pretending to be a student... hmmmm
Thanks for all your input:)

Travel / Ukraine / Poland border travel [12]

The only stamp I have is from Germany. I had a layover in Germany on the way to Warsaw, In Germany they scanned and stamped my passport. When I arrived to Warsaw, there was no one checking in anyone. But Germany is part of Schengen.. so yeah.. I will talk to some someone on this, and or get a lawyer. I'm debating if I should bother taking the school I worked for that refused to give me a work permit to a court.

Thanks for everyones advice and whatnots.

Travel / Ukraine / Poland border travel [12]

Recharging visa by going to Ukraine. I spoke with someone who has done this. So could a person do this if their visa is 2 months expired? What exactly happens at the border crossing?

Work / Any non-shafty English schools in Poland to work as an English native speaker? [36]

There wasn't any paper work. The money was like a security deposit. I pay them until they are comfortable with me, or have been there a while and I get the money back. Teachers and students say I did great. The bosses told me students didn't like me and that I had one more week to do better, I figure why bother work that last week when they will take the rest of my money. I wrote a letter stating some facts and lies of the company and if they want to talk to me, I would need a lawyer. I didn't get a phone call.

And now I am stuck here illegally:( I want to leave to do this all proper, but if I leave I may not be able to ever come back to Schengen countries. The school really did screw me over. Having a work permit would've helped me with the whole visa thing.

Someone told me I should do a border run to Ukraine. But won't they see I'm just over 2 months overstayed? I don't know how that all works out...

I live in Siedlce, I might be moving to a village just outside Zamosc.

Work / Any non-shafty English schools in Poland to work as an English native speaker? [36]

I worked at an English being a Native Speaker. The school lied to me, and made me give them money out of each pay. They refused to start the work permit/visa process. I found out they get away all sorts of illegal things. Is this common for English schools? I am now terrified to work at schools.

Food / Why do Poles just not "understand" healthy eating ?? [82]

I moved to Poland 5 months ago and I dropped 2 pants sizes smaller and my boobs got smaller the first two months being here. I am from the land of cheese and I don't eat much cheese in Poland do to my high standards of cheese tastes. Beef is hard to come by and I hate pork. I eat more chicken and fish. And I walk everywhere I go or take a train to far places. I haven't seen many large people in Poland. Everyone walks everywhere, So if they are eating unhealthy crap, they are burning it off or have excellent metabolism. Polish ppl are naturally smaller.

USA, Canada / american girl and a polish boy, how to stay in Poland legally? [14]

We're not trying to go back to the states. Why would we leave if we wanted to stay?
I work for a school who screwed me over, stating they'd get me a visa, well, that's not going to happen. So yeah I got screwed and that's why I don't have a visa.

So lets say I do the right thing and leave, will i get a stamp on my passport?

USA, Canada / american girl and a polish boy, how to stay in Poland legally? [14]

South America is too hot, though Spanish is easier to learn;)
Ahh paperwork so much of it.
Just curious how that works with no stamp from Poland on the passport. I have one from Germany on it. A job told me they were going to get me a visa.. but now I found out that's not going to happen. If I didn't love this man I wouldn't be in Poland. It would take a miracle if the states allowed him back in. It will take a miracle to get married in Poland due to financial obligation in the states. Yay school loans.

I wonder about Norway or Canada?

USA, Canada / american girl and a polish boy, how to stay in Poland legally? [14]

Once upon a time a Polish boy moved to the United States and overstayed by years. During his last year in the states he fell in love with a girl. The couple decided to move to Poland. Now the girl has overstayed in Poland by 2 months. She has no stamp or visas on her passport, They both want to leave Poland and make a life in another country and get married, How the heck are they going to do that? The boy cant go to the States and the girl will most likely not be able to enter Poland once she leaves.(?) .. ANy advice?
