History / Poland Betrayed in WW2 [243]
Im sorry but thats just not true. Its not that were being brainwashed in history classes, its the fact that majority of the people dont take history classes to any sort of serious level. Brits are mostly oblivious to the fact that the English Crown was effectivly conquered by Scotland, The Monarch was overthrown by puritans in the most bloody civil war the world has seen, and that Churchill was a lying bastard and shouldnt be much of a national hero when you actually review his finer details, aswell as the scale of Polish involvment in the second world war. British people are not brainwashed, there just ignorant. And whats more there no more ignorant than Polish, Austrailians, Ecuadorians or (insert any nation here).
Happily more than enough remember our own history to get by, and besides who is right or wrong anyway? Thats what history on the most part is - interpretation. Its not hard for somone to say on the big picture, Poland's involvment was not that crucial in winning the war, aswell as its easy for somone to say, no, Polands involvment was pretty dam crucial.
There were thousands who fought on the Eastern front. The most important and brutal front of the war in manys eyes.
The worst thing about it is that the Brits are being brainwashed by their media and history books - and know nothing about what we Polish did for them during IIWW.
And then you constantly hear that we did nothing for Britain, let's help Ghurkas, cause they did, etc.
I've got nothing against Ghurkas, but it just shows that if you don't remember your own history, no-one will.

History / Help Needed Unlocking Polish History. [6]
Hey there, just a bit of background to start of. My grandfather is a Polish veteran of the second world war. Following the war he decided to settle in the UK and marry a Ukranian women also seeking refuge in Britain following conscription and forced resettlement by the Germans during the war. I am the son of there daughter and, as a keen historian, am eager to gain as much knowledge from my grandfather as possable.
Having talked to him recently i am begining to bring together some knowledge through reaserch in order to better understand the journey that he took through the second world war. In my last visit i took some basic information of my grandfathers division in order to reaserch it in specific. Unfortunatly as of yet i have not been able to find this specific division. My grandfather has written in my notebook , " 3 divi Kotpock Sivis ". The S in Sivis is an S with what looks like a reverse J in its underhalf. Im an unsure as to whether this is a part of the Polish alphabetic system or simply my grandfathers poor writing - excuse my ignorance.
Knowing that my Grandfather fought at Monte Cassino i am begining to presume that this may be or itleast part of the 3rd Carpathian Rifle Division simply lost in translation, but i could not say for sure. Some doubt to this is given due to the knowledge that my grandfather was not part of the 'Anders Army' imprisoned in the USSR, but joined the fighting on the side of the Allies after deserting from the Wermacht. If anyone could shed any light it would be much appreciated.
