News / What did Poland get out of the wars and struggles for others? [1108]

France has had times of greater power. Look at what Napoleon did. He thrived on luck to a great extent, and so did Britain in its dealings with him.

So, if Britain did, yet France did not betray Poland at the start of the war, how can this discrepancy be explained?

At the end of the war in Europe - that is another story, however, most of this argument recently has been about 1939.

Is it too early to ask what is the answer for the present day?

It may look like that in Quebec or New Orleans, but since I don't live in either place I turn to Britian because they have a greater influence in Europe and a better military than France. Britian could have talked France into joining an offensive with other European allies if they wanted to.

and should have instead concentrated on a Soviet defensive pact in the mid 30's.

Are you serious? You honestly think that would have been possible? Poland didn't want to be invaded by the Soviets and dreaded that worst of all. They weren't in any position to make a defense pact with them.

My question, would Poland have lost as many lives in a full Soviet occupation?
Strictly numbers.

Do you have any idea what the Soviet plan was for Poland? Maybe it was like the Nazis? Maybe it was a conspiracy? Soviets might have done the same, regardless. They weren't exactly "nice", either.

Today, 18:48 #512

OK, so let's assume that they signed a pact with Russia, who was to stop Hitler in his plans? He wasn't gonna suddenly disappear.

I don't know what would have happened. Maybe it would have kept Hitler from expanding eastward? Germany might have been more intimidated, or more years would have elapsed before an invasion, allowing Germany more time to prepare for a war with the USSR.

Either that, or it would have meant an immediate yet prolonged war with the Soviet Union, most likely fought in Poland and other E.E. countries if they also signed pacts. There's wasn't enough alliances.

You see, this is the difference. Russian plans for Poland did not include a mass extermination as in Hitler's agenda.

Are you forgetting all the KZs that were similar to Soviet Style Gulags? The entire Nazi system was Soviet-like. Since all the KZs started popping up in the GG right after the signing of the Molotov-Ribbontropp pact, I wonder if there was indeed a conspiracy between the USSR and Germany?

It is circumstantial, but still, my eyebrow raises.

Funny thing is, Deutsche KZ were modeled after British concentration camps of the Second Anglo-Boer War...

At the time the US wasn't obligated to do anything. Why would the US be under any obligation? Nowadays because technology has improved, the US can be more involved internationally. At the time, due to transportation issues, it wasn't practical. It was up to Britain to show leadership. Britain failed.

Everybody knows what the Nazi ideology was and how they thought Germans were superior to Poles. We all know that Nazis thought they were ubermensch and Poles untermensch and they used this as an excuse to carry out their sick ideological plans. That has always been overt.

Some don't realize The Soviets hated Poles just as much. Why is this? Did the Soviets ever make it clear? Was it over a past conflict?

What I always found weird was that many Poles had Aryan qualities, I have remarked on this before. There were many Germans who didn't fit the Aryan description to a tee.

Seanus geez, I can't believe how naive you are!!!!!! EVERYBODY KNOWS both German and Poles are ethnically mixed. NEITHER conform to the Aryan ideal. From what I can tell, Swedes are the only ones who do.

I doubt you will find any "pure" blacks in today's USA...most will be heavily mixed by now.

Nearly everyone is mixed in the US. What is this obsession with purity? If it does exist, most likely it's in Asia. Not in Europe or the US. Maybe a bit in Europe, but not the way Europeans like to pretend oh look at me I'm a pure German I am so much better than you

that's mostly a myth.

The Jews seem kind of interested in it.

That is SUCH a fallacy. Many Europeans are mixed with jewish.

Many people of jewish decent converted to catholicism and married people who were catholic and not of jewish decent.

Do you have a statistic about that? Please show us...
As far as I know the Jews in German numbered even at their height under a million (900.000) to nearly 80 Million Germans...and what do you think Ghettos and Stetl's were for?

Over thousands of years this has happened. Catholic church wanted everyone to be catholic and tried converting. That's what the Crusades were all about. Many jews in Europe converted to catholicism and married Europeans who were not jewish. Where do you think you get catholicism? It's from Jerusalem. All of Europe has a jewish influence that some of you deny why I don't know. WHAT EXACTLY IS YOUR ISSUE??????

What you just said was that many Jews intermarried and converted, meaning they assimilated. They vanished!

Nope, they didn't vanish, they became your family tree, dude. Like, your ancestors.

You are talking about the ones who didn't choose to convert. The ones who did convert did intermarry. Your family must have been catholic at some point since you are Euro. Do you know anything about Euro history, dude? Seeriously. Most Euros at one time were catholic before the reformation. There have been jews in Europe for thousands of years, since, like Roman Empire times, dude. HELLO!!!!

But I'm sorry to disappoint you, most Germans, most Europeans have no jewish ancestors! Their numbers were always just to few and the political environment was seldom friendly or accepting to intermingling, they were mose of the time isolated, hated and mistrustet...that is a fact!

Since you are closer to Rome, yeah. Rome was this place where everyone from the Mediterranian region were brought from conquered lands to serve Rome. There were people from all over. Francs, Goths, Huns, Egyptians...you name it. If they were mediterranian, they were in Rome. So, you got that. Then you got refugees fleeing conflicts going up to WHERE??? Places which are now Austria, Germany, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Serbia, Bosnia, Later they moved on up. That is why that area of Euro has so many ethnic groups. Because of the Roman Empire. And you, good sir, are the product of so many a fine persons. Congratulations!!!

So what you are actually try to say is that most Europeans have non-european heritage! :)

That is exactly what I am saying!!!! You have a recent heritage but you also go back to that Roman Empire thing and there was a bunch of people from the Roman Empire. See, they didn't think like you do. You, sir, are a product of recent occurances. You got the Phonecians, the Etruscans, the Carthagians, the Ptolomys, the Egyptians. You gotta remember, EGYPT was once part of the Roman Empire which is like saying it was part of EUROPE, see?

And Europe goes further back than the Roman Empire...germanic tribes where already roaming Europe far before them!

Yeah but they eventually got conquered and had to share. Not by the Romans, more by the Huns, lol, who did what the Romans could not. So, see? You have some hun too.

Did he tell you about the Stetls and Ghettos where Jews lived all by themselves
during the centuries?

Some, but not all. Poland is like the US in that respect, Germany too. Many ethnic groups and races, some members choose to live apart and not mix. Many choose to convert/assimilate, whatever, and branch out. In the US it's getting so the majority of people have some latin american, african american, asian or native american mixed in with whatever they got from Euro.

Germany, Poland and Russia can never be pure :)

I was born in the US. My father was born in the eastern US. His mother was born in the Eastern US. Her parents emigrated from Poland. My father's dad did too. My dad is what you would call "Polish American".

Britain did not declare war on Germany following Germany's invasion of Poland in 1939?

Yes they did, I believe on the 3rd of Sept. then as Polish fought and keep waiting, France and Britain both "no showed".

You know, the irony is, Britain and France would have been better off fighting at this time instead of waiting. They just gave Germany more time to build up the wehrmacht.

That's why the Blitz starting in 1940 was so intense. Britain would have been better off had they fought a war in Germany on the ground right after Germany invaded Poland. They left themselves wide open for the Blitz. Tsk. Tsk.

I am mildly amused by this thread, which is a perfect example of how the westerners' amazing ignorance and naiveté can be abused by a few malevolent trolls. It doesn't take too much brainpower to figure out what's going on here, but sometimes even that is too much to expect from some people...

Oh Please! Who's the troll here? I notice a lot of posts aren't exactly in favor of Poland. I would say the real TROLLS are the ones posting THOSE!!!

I happen to have half my roots in Poland DON'T you DARE call me a TROLL!!!

If you insist on being anti Poland I will keep posting my opinion on that!

Okay: Here's a good question. I know this is the past and all we can really do now is learn a thing or two from it. That's why I think this is a good question to ask.

My question is: Why was Germany allowed to create it's wehrmacht in the first place. WWI had just happened, GERMANY had just LOST.
WHY WERE THEY ALLOWED TO CREATE THE WEHRMACHT????!!!!???!!!!
That is a valid question. The Treaty of Versailles was just signed and yet Europe allowed Germany to amass this mighty military force. How did this happen???? Most important of all: WHY did it????
