History / Where did the stereotype of Polish people being stupid come from? [131]

The origin of the stereotype that Poles have inferior-subhuman intelligence/Polish "jokes" came from Nazi propaganda. It was then ironically imported into the US by Polish-haters in Hollywood and the TV Networks during the 1960's and 70's. Before that, most immigrant groups coming into the US were subjected to basic anti-immigrant jokes including the Poles. Most jokes about Poles prior to the 60's were that they were stubborn or were Kielbasa type jokes. But the stereotype that Poles had subhuman intelligence was something introduced and pushed hard by Hollywood in the 60's and 70's.

Its no accident that the height of Subhuman intelligence jokes about Poles was during the 70's when Hollywood and the TV networks were pushing it the most.

You're out of your mind.

What an insane ridiculous question to ask since what was being done to Poland was illegal to say the least during the partitions. So if China and Russia both invaded and partitioned America, Americans should "assimilate" into the Chinese and Russian parts of the US?

Brat wurst Boy, Don't you have a German meeting or website to attend to? Why do you come to a website about Poland, especially to a topic link about Insults to Poles?

rychlik,

In general I do agree with you. The Hollywood/TV media hate campaign in the form of racist "jokes" against Poles in general has declined since the 1970's because Polish Americans have spoken out against it over the years.

But it does pop up every so often in the media like when the Anti-Polish bigot Amy Poehler of Saturday Night Live was telling racist "jokes" against Poles on March 15, 2008 and April 12, 2008 in her Weekend Update segment (shortly after people in talk radio denounced Amy Poehler's anti-Polish bigotry). In addition if you watch some movies such as "Bruce Almighty" (2003) with Jim Carrey or "S.W.A.T" (2003) with Samuel Jackson, the producers of those movies portray Polish people in a deragatory way which reflects their own Anti-Polish prejudice.

Also what part of the country do you live in? As for Opie and Anthony they are still on here in the New City Area and other parts of the country but I don't think they are prejudice against Poles per se. Knock on wood, I haven't really heard them say anything against Poles recently. I heard something about them saying some anti-Polish jokes back in 2000 and 2001 but in fairness to them, they seem to dish it out against many ethnic and racial groups and I don't think they focus on the Polish the way past Anti-Polish bigots in the media have. Although I don't like seeing any group of people being put down, if someone is going to put down people, they should do it equally against all groups to be fair.

As for Howard Stern, his racist jokes against Poles, appears to be prompted by the Anti-Polish propaganda circulating within a certain element of the Jewish community. Its the same Anti-Polish propaganda that has prompted Old Left-Wing Hollywood American Jews like Norman Lear to make 1970's Anti-Polish shows like "All in the Family" or George Schlatter to make the old "Laugh-In" show where Poles were ridiculed and attacked with racist jokes constantly in front of tens of millions of viewers.

Basically this Anti-Polish propaganda within this element of the Jewish community that has prompted American Jews to attack Poles in the media is this ONE SIDED notion that Poland for 1000 years was a "horrible anti-semetic country". This is total propaganda since PROPORTIONALLY speaking Poland was much more Pro-Semitic then all other nations, since it ALLOWED Jews to BUILD their families and culture FOR 1000 YEARS when MOST other nations were REJECTING Jews.

The Great Rabbi Moses Isserles basically said "If it were not for Poland the existence of the tribe of Israel would have been an unbearable burden". Rabbi Moses basically was thanking the fact that Poland existed for Jews, but sadly the Pole-haters in the Jewish community have IGNORED his Pro-Poland writings.

Having said this, I want to point out that there is good and bad in all groups of people. There are many good American Jews (mostly moderate and conservative) that are against anti-Polish jokes and who have defended Poland against defamation and have spoken about how Poland is a good Pro-American nation. It seems most of the defamation against Poles over the years have come from intolerant Leftist supremacists in the media.

Poznan,

You are correct not everything is all black or white.

I was only referring to those Germans that Hitler was referring to that did not want to assimilate into Poland. If they assimilated totally into Poland then Hitler would not have used them as an excuse to invade Poland to "protect them" against the Poles. Assimilated Germans in Poland would not need "protection" by Hitler.

Having said that. I have nothing against Germans today since most of them reject Nazism. Also relatively speaking, Germany and Poland have decent relations as of recently.

In a way Germany is similar to Poland in that Germany sometimes gets unfairly smeared by Hollywood and the media. For example, the American media is reluctant to report on German pride parades like they are on the Pulaski day parades. The media is reluctant to say good things about both Germany and Poland.

News / Dealing with constant insults against Polish [323]

In Hitler's two anti-Polish speeches shortly after he invaded Poland, he constantly berates the Polish people as "culturally inferior", "intellectually inferior" and says how ethnic Germans in Polish land should not be ruled by "culturally inferior"/Slavic Poles.

What Hitler fails to talk about is how these Germans were injected into Polish territory against the will of the Poles when Poland was brutally whiped off the map by the collaboration of Germany, Austria and Russia from 1795-1917 (Although in fairness to Austria, Poles under Austrian control were treated relatively well). Therefore Germany had no right to territory inside of Poland. Its almost like Mexico saying it has a right to Southern California territory because there is a large Mexican population there.

Hitler IGNORES all of the brutal treatment and ethnic cleansing Pre-WWII Germany did to Poland and how any "bad treatment" of Poland towards Germans living IN Polish territory, afterwards, was a result of that. Also Germans living IN Poland REFUSED to assimilate into Poland, while living IN Poland, which the ethno-centric idiot Hilter IGNORED.

Hitler's 2 speeches after invading Poland (parts of speeches)

From Hitler's Speech of Sept. 19, 1939 in Danzig (Gdansk Poland)

At this moment we want to give the Polish soldier absolute justice. At many points the Pole fought bravely. His lower leadership made desperate efforts, his middle-grade leadership was too unintelligent, his highest leadership was bad, judged by any standard. His organization was - Polish...

hitler.org/speeches/09-13-39.html

From Hitler's Speech of Oct 6, 1939
Towns as well as villages are in a state of neglect. The roads, with very few exceptions, are badly out of repair and in a terrible condition. Anyone who travels in that country for two or three weeks will get the proper idea of the classical German term 'Polnische Wirtschaft,' meaning a 'Polish state of affairs!'

hitler.org/speeches/10-06-39.html

What Hitler failed to say in his speeches about Poland is that much of the problems Poland had in the early part of the 20th century was because of Poland being destroyed and pushed off the map from 1795-1917 by Germany, Russia and Austria.

Poland was basically licking its wounds and catching its breath in the early part of the 20th Century when it was back on the map.

Life / JOKES ABOUT POLISH. Have we deserve it? [68]

Not unless you believe in the anti-Polish Nazi German propaganda (about Polish people having subhuman intelligence) that ironicallly the left-wing media and Hollywood has pushed.

ORIGIN of Polish “jokes” came from Nazi German propaganda that was then pushed by Soviet communist sympathizers in Hollywood.

The racist stereotype that Poles are intellectually inferior or have subhuman intelligence came from Nazi German propaganda and Soviet propaganda.

For example, the MYTH that Polish horses were used to attack German tanks in WWII was total Nazi German propaganda that the Nazi Germans repeated over and over until it took a life of its own using the BIG LIE technique.

The Soviet Communists saw the value of this myth and the racist notion that Polish people have subhuman intelligence, so they had their Left-Wing sympathizers in Hollywood push it using Anti-Polish Television and Movie imagery to the American people.

The image of Polish people having subhuman intelligence was useful to the Soviet Communists, since then, people would not mind too much if Poland is occupied by the Soviet Union if Poles are portrayed as having a Slavic culture that is inferior and less then human.

Nazi German hatred of Polish people:

As for the German Nazis (and even the Soviets) they then killed off the educated class of Poland first to make their racist stereotype of Poles a reality.

Polish "jokes" were in Hitler's two speeches after he invaded Poland.

Hitler ridiculed Poles in his Sept. 19, 1939 speech in Danzig (today called Gdansk) and in his Berlin speech in Oct. 6, 1939 with these hate-through-humor anti-Polish “jokes” and references.

Ironically, Left-wing Hollywood and the TV Networks (like NBC-TV) pushed these racist Polish “jokes” even though they claimed to hate Nazis. Hollywood and NBC-TV evidently hate Nazi propaganda but not when its applied to Poles. Hollywood and Network-TV (NBC) have a deep hatred for Anti-communist, Pro-American, Pro-Catholic Poland.

The recent movie “Katyn” shows the German Nazis and Soviets killing the educated Polish class in Poland in order to make Poland “intellectually inferior” and easier to rule. This was during the time Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia were collaborating with each other to destroy Poland as per their Molotov-Ribbentrop pact to destroy Poland together.

Polish jokes did not predate the 20th Century since it was introduced in America by left-wing bigots in Hollywood and TV networks like NBC-TV in the late 1960’s and 1970’s with anti-Polish “shows” such as “Laugh In”

Many Polish Americans who lived before this time have reported that they never heard these racist jokes until AFTER they were introduced by Left-Wing networks like NBC-TV in conjunction with Hollywood. NBC-TV launched Polish-bashing shows such as “Laugh In” which ridiculed Polish people constantly. In addition late night bigots were encouraged to bash Poles with “jokes” that portrayed the Polish people as having subhuman intelligence. Therefore the power of Television and motion pictures was used to demean Polish people with repetitive big lie type propaganda.

Anti-Polish movies such as “The End” were some of the earliest movies meant to degrade Poles with racist humor. In addition other anti-Polish shows such as “All in the Family” were used to degrade the Polish people even though the left-wing producer claimed the ruse that the show was suppose to be “against bigotry”. “All in the family” was filled with racist anti-Polish sound bites such as “Dumb Polak” in an attempt to influence its viewers to have the same anti-Polish prejudice, that the Left-wing producer of the show (Norman Lear) had.
