Russian-Polish relationship was always heavily influenced by myths created for political reasons by Kremlin's spin doctors.
One of them was
"Russia liberating and collecting Russian lands as a successor of Kievian Rus"!"

Sounds good, he ?
A nice try to justify Russian territorial claims against Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and to rob fantastic heritage of Kievian Rus' at the same time.

Kievan Rus was a completely different state from Muscova and later Russia.

Legacy of the Russian statehood ought to be derived from the times of the Golden Horde whose successor was Muscovite Russia.

Kievian Rus' historically created by "Swedish" Vikings was linked to the rich Bysantyne tradition.

The only common tradition somehow connecting both political creations was Orthodoxy and language to some extend.
But does it give Russia any rights to Ukraine ?

Don't get me wrong.
Ukraine or Belarus' are neither Polish nor Russian.
They are Ukrainian and Belorussian but...
Given my true sympathy and acceptance of their independence both countries are much closer to the Western Slavs than to Russians.

I mean cultural roots, many links to European tradition, common European history etc and not feelings of some "sovoks".
Young generation is what really counts.

Even your example of Dnepropetrovsk is rather misleading.
It's a "Belgian" city LOL.
For sure not Russian.

As for Crimea and feelings of people there:
you are missing the point.
Being anti UNA/UNSO, being even pro-Russian does not mean Kievian Rus' makes a part of Russian tradition.

However it's still a hot issue for Russians and Ukes LOL.

Actually it was the first European constitution (some historian consider the Corsican constitution to be the first one).

In some political sense it was a split in the face of the Russian "prison of the nations" (empire) slowly but surely annihilating Polish state in those years.

So obviously, from a very narrow pragmatic point of view the 1791 Constitution was a nail to the coffin of the independent Poland.
The medieval czarist system could hardly accept a modern democratic constitution in its "sphere of influence".

On the other hand the 200 years long forbidden (by Russian occupants) tradition kept us speaking Polish, using Latin alphabet, being mostly Catholics.
As one of many factors of course.

Once again the first free celebration of the 1791 anniversary took place 1989 !

Russia used some anti-Polish and anti-Catholic sentiments as a ideologic binder for the empire.
Frankly, they couldn't change this approach.
And then, there were enormous barriers of civilization - imagine, the first university in Russia was erected in 18 nth century (Poland 14 nth).

The "nobles democracy" was in 18 th century already a very degenerated political form of a statehood .
More anarchy than any constructive parliamentary monarchy, giving political rights to some 10% of the entire population only (nobles and to some extend Jews) .

The new constitution should have strengthened the position of the king, townsfolk and bourgeoisie.

Not at all.
"Degenerated" is the best expression for what it was in the 18th century.
And there is no way around it - it used to work perfectly in Jagellonian times due to the high moral standards and patriotism of ruling elite.

The Vasa kings destroyed the system.

Crow, I have to disagree with your "Slavic references".
Of course Poles are part Slavic.
Me too.
But it's nothing I'm taking any special proud in.

For me German and Czech monks, Dutch colonists, Jewish traders are by far more "Polish" and had more impact on our culture than any (more or less) mythical Slavic links.

Even Sarmates were not Slavic - they were Iranian Alans.

"Slavic" means for me some forced connection to Muscovites.
BTW, they are even not Slavic lol.
They are "wannabe" Slavs who crated the famous myth of the three brothers Lech, Czech and Russ.
Polish and Czech mythology knows two founders of Slavic countries only.
Brother Rus is a free invention of the czarist propaganda.

With all respect to the victims we are speaking about some 100 - 150 thousands killed by UPA and probable 10 times more murdered, starved out, tortured to the death by Russians.

But it's not all.
Today, support for UPA (UNA/UNSO) rather does not exceed 1% in the polls.
On the contrary, Russian president who was a prominent member of the KGB enjoys 60 - 80% support..

You probable don't know but our Russian brothers deeply in their patriotic hearts believe to have won all battles of the universe.

The only dissonance is the Polish - Lithuanian Grunwald (Tannenberg) victory 1410.
But Russian scientists offer a reasonable solution of this critical issue.

In those old days Russian Smolensk was a part of the Grand Dutchy of Lithuania so the city fulfilled its vassal duty to the Lithuanian senior.

Smolensk sent two tiny units of about 700 soldiers both, less than 1% of the total.
But their contribution to the victory was not forgotten.

According to the Russian historians they won the battle what makes Grunwald a common Russian - Polish and Slavic victory over the Teutonic Knights.

PS. The Lithuanian retreat was a part of king Jagiello's tactic.
Soldiers from Smolensk didn't get the orders on time.

Where did you get these figures and have you been to Ukraine? They look good only for Eastern Ukraine, if you mean Western Ukraine or Ukraine on the whole those figures are out of place.

My figures are based on the elections' results.
They differs from East to West but under 1% is the average.

Then, how does it count in this discussion if I've ever been to Ukraine or not ?

You are confusing two different things:
political support for radicals like UNA/UNSO which is rather low even in the Western part and some very strong myth of "freedom fighters" unfortunately represented by Bandera, OUN, UPA.

For the time being it would be counterproductive to fight the myths.
Ukrainian independence is still very young and needs clear lines of historic tradition.
We have to choose:
either we start discussing the past or we consolidate all pro-Western powers in order to keep Ukraine European not Russian.

For me it's some rhetoric question.

I'm fed up with BS posted by German-kielbasa boy.
First of all in the most European countries Holocaust denials are not allowed.
Then bubbling about innocent majority of good Germans is a plain lie.
Just read some books from Hanna Krall how those "good natured" Wehrmacht soldiers representing mostly the German middle class bravely shot Jews in East-Poland.

Same goes for Wehrmacht crimes exhibition from Reemtsma.

Speaking of "innocent" Germans be careful cause on the end of the day maybe only the Scholls are left.

Wrong.

Even small cities in previous German and Austrian zones had electricity, tramways, city gas etc.
Not to mention some movie theatres.

On the contrary the Russian sector of partitioned Poland was one of the most backward regions in Europe.
Maybe with exception for big cities.
The rest was just like Russia.

My great grandfather killed with his Ulan's sabre 5 Bolsheviks in the Battle of Warsaw 1920.
19 years later my Grandfather avoided Katyn becoming German POW.
The rest of the family survived wading across the Bug river and escaping to the German zone (GG).
Majority of their Polish neighbors were killed or deported by Soviets.
