News / EU constitution: 'Strong show' for Irish No vote ? [126]

SB don't u just love the part time Irish, they leave the country or have .01 % of Irish genes in them or worse still, they bump into one in the street and all of a sudden they have this wonderful insight into the Irish psyche, like I said before, the " lazy", "Idle", and "useless" Tags given to Irish were simply that, given to them, this vote indicates that we are long past being pushed headlong into a situation neither we nor the rest of Europe have the slightest understanding of.

I am sure there was a degree of truth in both the no camp and the yes camps but surely it would have been resolved had it been written in such a way that everyone could have understood it without the need for a gaggle of Lawyers and other professionals to explain it.

I will say, however, that the irish are reluctant to make decisions without understanding the facts and unless they are nearly 100 % sure there are no Sharks in the water they just won't jump in, they, we, are sceptics at heart but when we are fairly sure of a decent outcome we will go for it full speed ahead.

News / EU constitution: 'Strong show' for Irish No vote ? [126]

True, but all of the revenue generated by the boom does not necessarily reside in Irish coffers, lots has made it's way legitimately to other countries like our beloved Poland and other parts of Europe, hopefully this won't be forgotten and while I am at it let's also hope that the rest of Europe doesn't suffer more than us.

It amazes me though that everyone assumes the worst and has no confidence in the other Heads of the EU, that they will behave in a mature and logical way. Given how reactive various nations have become in relation to the huge increases in cost of fuel etc, Governments are balanced on a very creaky Fence, upset the equilibrium with that going on in the background and all hell could break loose.

By the way, the rant was on the back of a url I was sent recently re Kevin Barry, from my Girlfriend of a few years in Canada. I had no idea she was so interested in Irish history, you learn something new every day. Not sure about rules re posting urls, if it's inappropriate, I apologise in advance.

Simplisticaly, they cannot move ahead without us, if, however, they do, then there is something intrinsically wrong with the EU. Who in their right mind would sign a contract for a new job without reading the contract down to the small print. The option not to vote was a no go. I doubt very much if the Irish want to be, or will be outside the EU, what I am saying is that if the EU purports to be the ultimate in Democratic process it would definitely be indicating that this is not the case if it were to ignore the population of a country, say screw you, we're going ahead without you. What would the point of allowing the country the right of referendum to then snub the people and the result, I've climbed down now and havin' a sasperilla!

Im pretty sure it has been rejected. Some parts of Dublin are in favour but the rest of the country is against.
So the Irish say "thank you Europe for all your money over the past 30 years. Now **** Off".
Not very grateful of them. Damned Paddys daring to replicate the actions of the Dutch and French.
...
what does this say about the world in which we live?????

We had been colonised for 800 years and we are a republic now and as a democracy we have the right to vote as we please, where do you get off with your Paddy reference,? you know what, go F u c k yourself, we are not bedfellows of the Sheep followers in Europe. We showed backbone, something the Brits failed to suppress and we'll go from strength to strength as we have done since Kevin Barry's day, and A s s h o l e, there is a distinction between the old IRA and what purported to be the same organisation of late so please go join the Nazi party if you are not happy, it's a group whereyou may find some solice and happiness, obviously a democracy isn't where you feel comfortable. I'm so disinterested in where you are from I never bothered to check, the British politicians and others are delighted so who cares what you think.

Life / Horticulture in Poland [63]

One mans' meat as they say, it's only to get an idea, up till a decade ago you rarely heard anything about Poland other than politics so now I'm interested given peoples favourable opinions on both the country and it's citizens. It doesn't matter what's in a Garden that makes it one it's how you use it and make it a place for relaxation.

Thanx S.

Life / Horticulture in Poland [63]

It was a briefly written characteristic but I hope it was useful.

Useful and nicely put together. "Aktindia, Lonicera, Aristolochia - clematis)"
from your previous thread, Anyone know what species of aristolochia is grown in Poland?

Work / Horticulture/Landscape design - opportunities in Poland [17]

Best regards

Thanks a bunch for that I'm actually amazed that even Poncirus grows there. Could the farmers deal with the frost on the fruit like the citrus farmers in Florida do, by misting during cold nights to keep the temperature on the fruit at a constant allowing for a slow thaw rather than the sudden rise in temp leading to eruption of the cells

Just a thought..

Thanks for the reply.

Ensete ventricosum

Fabulous plant, thanks for the pic, I have seen some E. Maurelii that were left out over the last few winters by the local council that were used as dot plants and I really thought them lost to excessive wind and -6 to -8c temps and eureka, they're back with gusto, three to 4 ins already of new red leaf. If you are still in the uk

I could remove a few pups from the M. balbesiana, originally from the nat botanic gdns, Glasnevin. I am a benefactor there so can request bits nd pieces, it's already on the move, 4ft tall nd 9 shoots. I can post to u. Will upload photos when I get a chance, btw no prob loading pics but remember a thread mentioning difficulties uploading more than 2 at once. Is the one in the pic the one you lost?

Apols for bad binomial nomenclature, it's like a parent at home all day with childrens chatter missing adult company,I miss talking to people of the same interest, I've forgotten so many names etc...

Cheers.

might not be so easy to replicate over there

It's a bit like leaving a child alone when on hols. The damp here does not seem to be a problem. Would u like a few fotos? not sure how to do this tho.

I have the red Ensete murialle and it comes thru fine, Musa balbesiana, musella lasiocarpa, and a few from northern India whose names I forget at the mo. Im expecting half a dozen fl heads this year as it is 13 foot at the moment right now.

My Butia capitata is flying and a lady near me has a phoenix which is Huge, 14 foot or so grown from a tiny plant brought back from Tenerife. U in Poland now?

osiol , thanks for your and the other replies, we're on the same page, I think, I grow, 6 types of Musa, many Hedychium, Tree ferns, Palms, Puya, Echium, Agaves, Bomaria etc, all outdoors w'out protection and they are spectacular. I am aware of the difference in climate and know that you are hard pressed to use exotics in such extremes you experience in Poland. Gardening etc here was always of interest but since the boom people have been spending silly money on the ugliest of designs.

I studied in The National botanic Gardens here and in London, then moved to the USA and then Canada to work in the industry. Making a move back to Canada shortly.

Nah girls you've got it wrong, it's an allowence made for men to compensate for the lack of excuses for bad humor like, pmt, pms, The right to change your mind without rhyme or reason, Going to the Bathroom in twos, saying no when you mean yes, saying yes when you mean no, Expecting dishonesty when you ask does my Ass look big in this. etc.

Kev :o)

Only joking, I have 5 Sisters!!!
