Genealogy / Oleksiuk [5]

My grandfather, Wasyl Oleksiuk was born in Rodzom, i believe he had a sister, Catherine or of similar spelling.

Wasyl ended up in Germany, and eventually went to Australia to live with his wife in 1950.

He passed away many years ago, and i know nothing about his background/family etc in Poland.

Any connections out there?

"OLEKSIUK." Phone Book lookup please..

So my GF comes from Rozynsk Maly. And would like to write to others with the same surname in the area, in the hope that someone is related....

Could someone do a lookup in the phone book (i assume the Polish phone book has addresses) for OLEKSIUK. Not sure how Your phone books are arranged, but if its possible to narrow it down the actual villiage - Rozynsk Maly, or the main town/city that covers that Villiage, or something like that. Possibly Goldap might be the main closest town/city. Province Suwalskie.

I dont care how many letters i have to write.

If its many listings then a close up photo or something.

Please....

Anyway, i'm not having much luck so far trying to establish where my grandfather was born. Look, some indications its in Urkaine (rozen maly) and others are its in Poland, Rozynsk maly.

Prior to WW2 he did some work in his home town in a saw mill. Wanting to see if a saw mill exists in his home town.

Can someone suggest where i can look for a saw mill in Rozynsk maly, or perhaps it was situated nearby.

Looking for Decendants of my great, great grandfather, Mikolaj (Nicholas) WARYSZCZAK. Born around 1867 in Kulaszne. I think his wifes' name was Marie.

He might of moved the USA early 1900's.

I think he had at least one child, Katarzyna WARYSZCZAK.

Genealogy / Looking for WARYSZCZAK [3]

Thanks for the Ellis Island Info.

From the searching i've done so far, i've been unable to find anywhere or anyone with the surname that has settled in the USA. Sofia, seems to have 'special' numbers in her manifest that suggest its for residency.

Back to Poland, seems that the one place that 'my family' stayed in for generations was Kulaszne - but so far I havent had luck locating any WARYSZCZAKs'.

This surname is scattered throughout Poland, but knowing that doesnt help if i dont have a physical address, or email so that i can write.

Genealogy / Can someone help me with the town name Rodzom [6]

Ok, i'm not sure where this place is located.

Rodzon or Rodzom (i've also been given rozen maly, or similar), Grandfather was born here. Not sure which province it is in.

I googled this many times but dont really get a location that i can definatley say, thats the place.

Whilst my grand mothers place of birth was no problems, as the village name has no variation on the spelling, this Rodzom, has get me stumped.

Perhaps someone whom has mothertongue of Polish, will be able to help.

Genealogy / Can someone help me with the town name Rodzom [6]

On my grandfathers marriage certificate and his IRO resettlement papers it says "Rodzon - Poland"

I've also been given the name "rozen maly" by a family member.

My family records/and other documents have this name from at least between 1913-1942 prior that or after that i dont know.

His nationality is "ukraine" if that helps, and was born/lived there between the above years.

Genealogy / Searching for surname - Hawryluk [12]

I've recieved my GF ww2 papers and this lady was mentioned as a spouse to him.

My GF lived/born in Poland, but was Ukrainian. (Rozynsk Maly)

She was born in 1908, and she was also living in Rozynsk Maly according to files.

The papers mention nothing else about her, except her birth place Cerheneuka.
Also mention "1932 zu Cerheneuka" under "EheschlieBung am:" - but i dont know what this means.

My roots are polish, thus far anyway, but are Ukrainian speaking.

My GF was in Germany in Sept of 1942.

So Maria's last place she was at was in Rozynsk Maly.

Thanks for that. Yeh, so then it says they were married in Cerheneuka, in 1932.

My GF was born/grewup/ and worked in Rozynsk Maly, so i wonder why he went to Cerheneuka to get married, cause then they both went back to live in Rozynsk Maly.

Ok, so next on my list - Cerheneuka...

It must be a slightly different spelling..perhaps i need to search through a soundex thingee

Genealogy / how many know their own family histories? [139]

Well, i'm only about 4 months into my research.

My grandparents ended up in Germany during WW2, then went to OZ as Dp's a few years after the war. They never spoke about Poland/germany, apart from vaguely knowing the names of their brothers/sisters, and where they were born, everything else i need to find out. And so i'm more or less starting from scratch.

I have been fortunate enough to find a family member in Poland, through a letter i wrote to someone with the same surname as my GM's. Anyway, this really has been a critical find, as sharing gathering info about my GM's side of the family is now much easier.

As for researching my GF's history/family etc, boy, thats proven to be much more difficult.

Found out that my GF was married before he married my GM. Yea, bit of a shock, and i must admit, i was a bit dissapointed when his war papers mentioned what children he had from his first wife - none. Would of been exciting to try to find children from his 1st wife.

Seems to be a common theme regarding those whom were caught up in the war - its not spoken about, and this also seems to impact on life prior to that, thats also kept pretty much quiet.

Anyway, i've now got a hobby that will keep me going till i end up in the ground.

Kuper in Olsztyn - need phone number.... help

Looking to find S.Kuper in Olsztyn - a phone number. I'm needing to phone, but finding their number (assuming they have one) is not an easy task. I've written a letter but got no reply, so now i want to try and phone. I know the person does live there as my relative in Poland tells me so.

I've tried a few of the online directories, but nothing. Does anyone live in the region/area, that could look in the local phone book for me?

Thanks,
Bobby.

Genealogy / software for genealogy in Polish [5]

I looked into this a few weeks ago. I use Legacy and whilst it currently supports a few other langugaes other than english - Polish isnt one of them as yet.

I did enquire about this to legacy, and from what i could gather, if they get a handfull or so of people to help with the Polish language, then they could go ahead and get it done.

So if anyone is interested, make an enquiry below at Kens email address.
