Food / Traditional Candy/Food to give for Xmas to a Polish/Ukrainian native [4]

Hello,

I'm going to introduce myself with this post. I'm from Costa Rica, currently living here. My boyfriend was raised in different parts of Europe (Poland, Ukrainia / Russia) and I'm looking to buy traditional candy or "comfort food" (canned mermelade, cookies, candy, gummy bears, pate, or something like that) that he may have eaten as a child being. He was born in 1978 so I'm looking for anything that may have been popular at the time he was a kid.

Can anyone shed some light for me as to which names should I look for? Brands, or which traditional foods/candy will he like best that I can order online or buy locally (here in Costa Rica) at a delicatessen or specialized foods store?

Thanks and happy holidays!

Thank you soooo much for your help!
I've written down the names of the foods/candy you've recommended. I just hope I can find it at a delicatessen here. We've spent all the past few days together so I haven't had a chance to run and buy his gifts apart from him LOL... But thanks a lot! I'm sure I'll be able to find it with some luck!

Happy Holidays...

History / 100 Zloty from 1988 bill as Xmas gift question [4]

I just bought a bill of 100 Zloty from 1988 which I will give as part of my Xmas gift "combo" to my Polish boyfriend in an Ebay type of site.

Was the same currency used throughout all of Poland during that decade? Do you think this particular bill have any symbolism for him? (He was raised in Poland and hasn't been there in 14 years, he's 31 now).

Thanks for your help. I still have time to get other types of currencies so that's why my question (which probably sounds silly but thanks for your help anyway)
