USA, Canada / Why aren't Polish people immigrating to Canada instead of the UK? [148]

Canada vs. UK - My take:

Although I have nothing but good things to say about my travels to the UK - London, along with Paris, is the most beautiful city I've seen in my life - hands down, Canada would be the better place to live for a Pole.

The reason is simple, life is easier in Canada. The cost of living in considerably lower. Prices of nearly all goods are more expensive in Europe than they are in North America. The Macbook I'm typing this on which I recently purchased cost me $400CDN less in Canada than it would have in Germany. Cost of housing is much cheaper. Taxes are actually less if you think about it. Ontario has a 13% tax on goods. Poland's VAT is 22%, Germany's is 19%, I'm not sure about the UK, but I'm sure it's in that range. From living in Canada and Europe, life in Europe is a lot tougher for the average middle class citizen, I think most people would agree with me on that. Gasoline is another thing I forgot about. Gasoline in Europe is over twice the price of what it is in Canada. Cars are cheaper in Canada. I hope I've got my point across.

Foreigner, I don't know how you can say that the entire country has 6 months of hard snow and gets -30 degrees celsius weather. That's simple not true. Vancouver experiences mild winters, and in the last 5-10 years, Toronto's winters have been becoming much more milder due to global warming.

I'm not saying Canada is the best country in the world, I think it's definitely one of the best and would give most immigrants an easier life than that of what they're offered in Europe. Ethnic assimilation is another factor. It doesn't matter if you're a foreigner in any large Canadian city, or any city for that matter, because Canada is made up of foreigners! No one is going to judge you based on where you came from.

So there are my two cents. Feel free to agree or disagree.
