UK, Ireland / Ideas for integration between English and Poles [15]

Hi all,
I'm an English guy, who has nearly always lived in Coventry, England.

Over the years I have seen many nationalities' migrants moving here... i'm completely used to it, and have always worked by the rule 'live and let live'.

This has always worked for me, and i've never experienced any trouble like some of the stuff i've read on these forums!

The thing is, we live here in this so called 'multi-cultural society' and everybody seems more comfortable to stick with their own... english with english, indian with indian, turk with turk, and pole with pole etc.

I'd like to actively integrate with Poles (in particular) living here in Coventry. Do any of you have any ideas how I can make this happen?

There is a fairly large Polish community here... we have several polish shops opened recently. There is also a community centre now open for poles - would it be incredibly bolshy for me to go for a few drinks there? would I risk souring my opinion of immigrants by doing so? would it offend anybody, or cause trouble?

oh... at risk of my thoughts sounding preconcieved - i do drink vodka too!

Any ideas for my own personal integration with poles, or more widespread integration between english and poles will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

Just put a note in one of the shops windows advertising a grill ( BBQ ) with a few beers - irresistable to most Poles in the summer !

Sounds like a good idea my friend, although the venue of any such bbq would be something to think about quite deeply... maybe an english bar, or community centre maybe?

So You're looking for a polish girlfriend :D

Although you obviously have no more sense than your name suggests, and your comment really deserves no sensible response... I would like to point out that I actually prefer asian girls to europeans.

The reason i'm particularly interested in poles is that they are the most recent group to migrate here, and feel as though i've in a way 'missed the boat' with others over the years.

I just feel that being english and taking it upon myself to get to know other cultures living in my society is better and more helpful than being simply indifferent to it.

Come to london and i buy u a beer dude

Cheers mate, the price of diesel kind of rules that out though!!!

if you pay for the drinks, they will happily integrate with you :))

Ha ha, I should have thought of that already

Honestly though, just go in to one of the shops and tell them you want to know more about Poland

You're a sensible guy... there's one on my way home from work actually... hmm, interesting!
