Love / Wedding ceremony in Poland - is it done in church only? [7]

It isn't necessary to have wedding in church in Poland, unless you don't want it by priest. There is possibility of taking "civil wedding" (ślub cywilny), it can be made in some representative town office or elsewhere. This are very fast, I don't know if it takes 15 minutes ? :)

If you would like to have it by priest, it sometimes is possible outdoors (I know one church in Gdansk, where it can be arranged). But this is very unusual situation and very rare.

Food / A report on certain Polish eating habits [15]


Most common is that women are making dinners and breakfasts, suppers are often made by men. There is also such custom us 'cook doesn't wash up dishes' - so men also usually do this. During weekends men are making also breakfasts, and there is no problem with after dinner dishes as we usually eat at parents places.

Of course it isn't a 'must be', it differs in each house.


Personally I:
*breakfast: white bread, ham, tomato, cucumber, white cheese, "Philadelphia" style cheese ("Ostrowia" 10x better ;), juice

*second breakfast (in work): sandwich made earlier in home,

*dinner: piece of meat (chicken, beef) or fish (salmon), some vegetables (carrots, French bean, pea) and sometimes potatoes or rice, or pasta.

*supper: like breakfast

PS. Milk soup is awful, only cereals!

Generally Warsaw (most expensive), Wroclaw, Cracow, Poznan or Gdansk are the places.
I personally recommend you Gdansk ;) Lots of new IT establishment recently here.

Food / Żubrówka + apple juice anyone? [41]

zubrowka + apple juice is also sometimes called 'zubry w sadzie' = bisons in orchard :)

But I prefer something called "Made in Poland" it's made of vodka "Gorzka żołądkowa" mixed with Sprite and few fresh cucumber slices, del-ico-us
