History / THEY WOULDN'T LISTEN TO WISE OLD PIŁSUDSKI!!!! [67]

Show me the source where you have read it. If you don't do it, I'll just understand who you are. And don't try to tell me more without source.

You are not very serious, Nathan.

The Massacre of Poles in Volhynia (Polish: Rzeź wołyńska, literally: Volhynian slaughter) was a massive ethnic cleansing operation in the prewar Polish Wołyń Voivodeship and its environs, between late 1942 and early 1945, at the time of the German occupation of the former eastern Polish Second Republic during World War II (now part of western Ukraine).

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massacres_of_Poles_in_Volhynia

What shouldn't make you feel better is that UPA murdered thousands of Ukranians too.

You seem comfortable with this also: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/14th_Waffen_Grenadier_Division_of_the_SS_Galicia_(1st_Ukrainian)

The Warsaw Uprising, Huta Pieniacka, death camp guards. Ring a bell?

News / JEW YOUTH SHOULD CLEAN UP THEIR ACT IN POLAND [420]

Interesting. Is it possible that annimosity toward Jewish people might have something to do with this held view of

making the earth a holy place where mankind recognizes its creator. Achieving this will bring world peace and people being good to each other

since it is only the Jewish people who are tasked with this role of a guide?

Life / Weekly Food costs - Krakow [16]

That is easy, when you know where the market is.

...and know how to cook some basic dishes. I'm shocked to see people live on kebabs and not know how to make soup. Polish way of making soup is great. It's a good start and any neighbour will show you once you break the ice.

The trick is breaking the ice :)

I'm willing to deliver home cooked meals to Len from Green Bay for say 8,000 PLN anywhere in Poland. lol

History / "GANGING UP" ON POLAND? [99]

I've seen Harry mentioning this before but I haven't seen his explanation.

He probably means the 1921 Treaty of Riga.

History / "GANGING UP" ON POLAND? [99]

As well as RP was not Poland, so what is the argument here? ;)

The Commonwealth of Poland was not Poland? We are getting into the absurd.

Just putting some info for those who are interested to know of Ukraine more than limited Polish 4th grade view that Ukraine suddenly appeared in 1991. ;)

That's fine. Post some info on Ukraine if you like, but a country called Ukraine did appear in 1991. Before, it was a Russian, Polish, Soviet province. It's good that it is a country now and I am still shocked that the Russians let go of this prime real estate. Kicking out their fleet from your ports might be more difficult. Despite what some might think, Poland is on your side and has been engaged in its absorbsion into EU. There are some sore memories on both sides, but in Christian spirit both countries have tried to overcome the differences. I can tell you that it was a very moving outdoor reconciliation Mass three years ago in Warsaw, in which I participated, and your patriarchs were received with honors and respect by thousands.

Re: non-aggression pacts. Why do nations even sign these? It's like writing an agreement with your neighbour that you will not rape his wife.

Sean no one in their mind would expect something like that, its only with hindsight that we know of concentration camps, gas chambers etc, if you told this to a 1920s Pole or even a German he'd think you're nuts.

The extent of the agression would have been unknown, but had they paid attention to Mein Kampf, the design was laid out for all to study very early on.

History / "GANGING UP" ON POLAND? [99]

Relax, Nathan. No one is going to take your Ukraine from you. Kievan Rus was not Ukraine.

There was not such country as Poland then as well. There was some resemblance of it, if you want, which was called Rzecz Pospolita or something like that, but no Poland,

Kingdom of Poland, Rzeczpospolita Polska, yes, the existance of this nation is over one thousand years. Rzeczpospolita Polska means The Commonwealth of Poland, BTW.

Ukrainian flag and coat of arms are less than 100 years old. BTW, the coat of arms of your biggest national hero was Polish.

Life / Why do other Polish people hate Warsavians? [12]

Varsovians can come across as conceited and consider others as bumpkins. I know, because I am one, Varsovian, that is. I'm from Śródmieście(City Center), so if you're from anything farther than Mokotów, which is in Warsaw also, you're a bumpkin too. :)

If you're from Cracow, you're not only a bumpkin; you're a penny pinching bumpkin.

Normal tribal behavior; silly, but practiced all over the world.

History / "GANGING UP" ON POLAND? [99]

Sjam,

You are not paying attention.

The claims we are talking about are by Jewish organizations trying to guilt Poland into giving money for lost property which has no heirs.

Try to focus on that if you will and not on a different issue. My family has also lost property, as scores of other Polish families, and it is very difficult to recover any of it. It took my father six years to recover a small portion of it; it is possible.

The Jewish organizations claim individual Jewish property belongs to Jews in general. It is a ridiculous and rasist view that no democratic nation accepts anywhere. The Jewish organizations claims Jews are unique and normal rules don't apply.

I would bet that most Jews worldwide would agree that these organizations represent a small percentage of Jews and are engaging in a fleecing operation designed to benefit a small circle of wealthy people who are doing more harm than good. They are creating anti-Semitism where otherwise there would be none.

History / "GANGING UP" ON POLAND? [99]

In almost unprecedented solidarity, all Polish political parties have rejected Jewish claims to heirless property. The chutzpah of the American Jews is sickening.

The other rewriting of history no one takes seriously. I'm waiting for Russians to say they invaided us because we were about to invade them.

Work / Customs in workplace in Poland [11]

It just seem to me you find yourself in an unfamiliar setting so you think everything is strange. Having traveled to over 40 countries and worked in 4, I find very little strange or annoying anymore.

I think after a while it will seem almost normal or at least familiar. Toke some weed to lessen the trauma :)

History / World War II - a tragic story for Poland and the World [489]

This type of question was discussed within American forces as there were many soldiers facing such dilemma. That's why we have security clearances so we don't yak about it publicly, and especially with people like Harry.

Interesting discussion, but this is not the place.

Harry thinks that he can insult me over and over, and I will not react. Stupidity of some people amazes.

chose to fight for a foreign power.

Sjams father chose to fight for a foreign power also. In your twisted mind that makes him a traitor.

According to Harry that would be so and I understand why Harry would think so. But I don't personally think of my father as a traitor;

Explain it to your dimwit friend then.

therefore would you have bombed Poland

I doubt I want to talk to you about what I did in the service.

Guess my late father would have faced the same possibility whilst serving in the British Army, although he might have considered all Poles in Poland commies and hit the button, so to speak.

According to Harry, your father was a traitor. How do you feel about that?

Life / What really represents Polish people? What would be the symbol of Poland... [51]

About religiuos symbols, as you can see from the different comments, it's a touchy matter. Therefore, I wouldn't like to go into it and use a religious symbol...

I haven't read any Pole say here that it wasn't representative of our nation. Even a Polish atheist or Jew would agree. Catholic religion has been and is very much part of our culture.

I got it... thanks to everybody!

Can we see it?

History / World War II - a tragic story for Poland and the World [489]

Czesław Miłosz A communist writer eh?

Unlike you, I have read Miłosz and his explanaitions about his communist past. Just because he left the party later doesn't sbsolve him and he doesn't ask for it.

You can read "The Captive Mind" 1953 on the subject.

Take it up with wiki :-))

I'm sure you're gigling like child. I don't have to take anything up with wiki on this point because they correctly identify this camp as an internment camp.

History / World War II - a tragic story for Poland and the World [489]

That crap Nobel prize-winning Polish author Czesław Miłosz agrees with describing the facility (Bereza Kartuska) as a concentration camp...

I have as much respect for this communist writer as I have for Nobel prize-winning communist poet Wisława Szymborska. Lovely poem praising the Party and Stalin. Mind you, the use of concentration camp for BK was used by the communists till recently.

The OUN members jailed there went on later to organize a genocide of Poles in Wołynia, and swelled the ranks of Wafen SS. Their attrocities surpassed in many ways the brutality of Nazis and the Soviets.

Once again:

The Bereza Kartuska prison or detention camp (Polish: Miejsce Odosobnienia w Berezie Kartuskiej, "Place of Isolation at Bereza Kartuska") was a Polish prison for mostly political prisoners that was operated in 1934–39 at Bereza Kartuska in the former Polesie Voivodeship (today in Belarus, near the city of Brest).

Take it up with wiki.

History / 1940 massacre of Poles remains potent issue [35]

Dude, I'm way behind. I don't belong in this century at all. When I look around me all I see is corruption, materialism, idiocy, lack of culture, shallowness and loss of national identity. I guess it's the way I was brought up and I'm comfortable with it. I detest any form marxist socialism and we are heading only in that direction. EU is just a USSR without violence - a big internationale.

History / 1940 massacre of Poles remains potent issue [35]

Different people have different tasks just like in any discipline. Some are planning for future events and some are maintaining past records. We have something like 20million Polish-Americans alone, so how will they maintain their culture if we stop talking about our history which is their history too? I'm constantly learning about other nations' history because there is someone willing to whine about it, as you almost put it. :) There is one exception.
