News / EU constitution: 'Strong show' for Irish No vote ? [126]

Maybe the politicians have read it but most of the society not?

Anyway...Ireland showed how the need for unanimous consent is killing not the EU but the workability of the institutions...people will think again about that and that is a good thing!

I support idea if givin more power for small players

How should that work?

How can a business work if there are maybe ten different opinions and nothing can be done till all ten (just an example) will agree....

Not only that it will take eternal till they can agree to a solution (if at all that is), it also means that the solution can't be the right, quick one because it is so much discussed about and changed and watered down that the Business has to close down after a while...

But at least all ten could discuss, happy now?

I think there are actually only 5 pages, the rest are blank to save on ink.

Very probably! :):):)

I am sure we will find a happy medium, just not this time

Agreed...

Have you read it?

Nope :)
Can't be arsed to...(and that from an EU-supporter)!

but do you really think that smaller countries are not going to want to have a say about their future and affairs?

Not at the costs of the workability of the EU!!!

Before the big enlargments consent could be reached between the core countries too even if there were differences too.
If a small country can demand to get his way without any regard for
the whole EU then something is not right!
It borders on blackmail...

First, really very few people which discuss it have ever really read the whole paper...(experience).

Most people does just have not the clue how the EU works and what that really would mean for the people, how that would really influence their lives, what it would change etc.

Many see not the good but often just a bad foreigner who wants to much influence...more a gut feeling than anything else.
Not much to do with real facts.

I'm against the treaty because it would actually cementing the EU as it is now and I personally don't believe that it is workable in the long run.

I believe some countries like Germany and France and a few others should work closer together and not be so depending/accomodating to much smaller countries as it is now.

Those who pay more should also have to say more...bluntly said!

Also the unanimous consent which is needed in all questions makes the EU a lame duck, no business would be running for long if every

janitor could stop the decision process...the business would close down soon! (just see Ireland now).

If we want the EU to work good and well int the future important changes NEED to be made...

We should be happy that Ireland did make a decision of their own despite the whole pro-european propaganda.

Who is we?

And against what were they actually voting? I doubt that the voter ever once read the treaty of Lisbon at all...it was rather a protest vote just for protesting!

What have the E.U. ever done for Ireland?

Are you kidding?

Since joining the EU in 1973 Ireland has received over€17 billion in EU Structural and Cohesion Funds support.

iro.ie/EU-structural-funds.html

Ireland is looking now much better than before, doesn't it?
Other question, what has Ireland ever done for the EU?

But maybe they just did!
They showed that as it is now the EU becomes/is non-governable. It is now just to big and far spread as to reach an unanimous consent in every question.

Changes must be made! Majority decisions like in all democratic countries will be the future I think.
Maybe even the mantra that all countries have the same voice in all decisions and at all costs needs to be re-considered.
There are many people who believe rather in a Europe of two velocities...even the possibility for countries to leave the EU if they don't/won't fit must be considered ...

History / Why has Poland been attacked so often by its neighbors? [180]

It is you who post maps with movements of european people. The fact is that we all come form Africa, and Europe was under glacer.

When we go even further back we did swam together as amoebes in the ocean..:)
(polish and german amoebes of course bickering with each other!)

I will post that map whenever a Pole states that that was
ALWAYS polish land, whenever someone says Germans have no rights to this land and are just illegitimate settlers and thiefs, that Germans never belonged there and it was right that they were expelled!

ot about Nordic, Middletenian, Slavic ... people.
(still I don't know to which group Germans belong)

It's your people who seem to be obsessed with haplogroups nowadays...

History / Why has Poland been attacked so often by its neighbors? [180]

you are pathetic with your claims when only 24 % of Germans are Nordic ...

And you are just a confused dummkopf...you just want a fight with me regardless if the arguments I made are valid or not!
Why don't you explain to all of us why this land is polish only in your mind???

Go play somewhere else...

UK is partly Nordic and fighted agains Germans (nation)

What an argument: England fighted together with Prussia against France (Waterloo)...so what!
Poland was once allied with the Teutonic Order and they fighted together against the Tartars...and???

you are pathetic with your claims when only 24 % of Germans are Nordic ...

...how confused you are! :(
I stated long before you that we became a mixed breed over the millenia...I'm not southern!

Germans are onky little bit more "I" than Poles... so why you claim that it is Germans land.

Are you slow???

It's the Poles who state the expellation of Germans from this territories were alright because it was always polish land and Germans had no right to live there....

It's the other way around, not that Germans deny the Poles the rights to the land and towns but the Poles deny that the Germans!

It's the Poles who always state: "It was always polish land", but the germanics were first there, period!

PS: Do you want to be suspended again Luki?

I always find it funny if eastern people becoming more racial interested than Hitler, Himmler and the Nazis...isn't it ironic!

I think Poles like you stating: "this land was always polish" even when germanic tribes settled there long before or "these towns where always polish" even when they consisted of a german population for 500, 800 years are leaving some inconvenient facts out!

Lamenting german "Drang nach Osten", ignoring polish "Drang nach Westen".
Are all Poles like this?

History / Why has Poland been attacked so often by its neighbors? [180]

Germans, when it became obvious they were losing the war, began drafting everybody.

Nope.
In every identification stood if one was either polish or german citizens or Volksdeutsche, ethnically german Poles.
(Volksdeutsche Liste)
Only Germans or Volksdeutsche could and would be drafted into the Wehrmacht!

The Waffen-SS was another matter alltogether! Many of the nearly 1 Million men at the end of the war were non-germans...

Most of them deserted to the allies` side

I would really like to see some stats and links to that often repeated statement.

So, once considered Untermenschen, Slavic people were used by Germans as a last resort to continue/prolong the war.

Nope,
Germans were drafted
The Waffen-SS were volunteers!

PS: I don't doubt that many Volksdeutsche felt loyalty to Poland but so felt many ethnically Poles who were now german citizens loyalty to Germany...lot's of "skis" in the Wehrmacht fighting bravely!

Anyway you are the best example why Poles have been so often invaded by Germans.

Cut the crap!

Lot's of ex-Poles served in the Wehrmacht and we were not talking about the Sorbs but your statement "this land was always polish".

If you would had read books you would know that the Slavs invaded germanic land and pushed always further west.

Germans taken him by force to wermaht and he deserted after 2 weeks.

Crap...no non-german was eligible for the Wehrmacht.
(And of course, after the defeat all where victims, right?)

It was always Polish land google lusatian culture. You German skinhead ;)

Always polish? From when on? You polish dumbhead???

how so? just because you don't like what i said doesn't mean it's not valid.

"You get what you deserve!" was a clear statement...what's good for the goose is good for the gander right?

the kashubs consider themeselves polish and their blood line is more slavic then sour.

Tusk is a kashub, isn't he? His grandpops was german enough for the Wehrmacht...
Oh and the Sorbs feel quite German too...I never heard they fled to Poland to their slavic brethren...

just because the tutons and the pruss exerted their will over the area for a little while doesn't mean that the region was theirs.

And now exchange "tutons" and "pruss" with "slavs" and we are on the way...

Poles often bragg that Berlin was founded by slavs but somehow that seems okay and nothing bad with "Drang nach Westen"...since 2 millenia the slavs pushed west, but beware the Germans push back..now that is just baaaaaaaad, right???

I would say that Poland was just unfortunate to be in the middle of aggressive neighbors

You like this view, don't you?
Be glad Poland wasn't the neighbour of England or France...

Incomplete list of Polish wars: forum.poland.com/index.php?showtopic=1290

Middle Ages

During the Middle Ages, Poland fought mostly to defend itself from the German eastward expansion, but at the same time tried to conquer its eastern neighbor, Ruthenia. Occasionally, it encountered Bohemian, Tartar, Prussian and Lithuanian raids, to be finally challenged by a new powerful neighbor from the north - the Teutonic Order.

not the sh.t we got from you or the god damn commie fvcks.

Then your logic stinks...

you get what you deserve.

Hmm...then Poles and Poland never deserved much, right?

the only two armies that were going to russian in all of hostory were the french and the nazis everyone else was after something in PL.

Not wanting to get your share from a weak, torn neighbour???

Their cruelty was their form of whining about WWI and whatever other things that pissed them off.

WWI gave land and people away to build new states regardless of the ethnic Germans who lived there - partitions anybody???

And yes WWII was fueled by the injustice of the Treaty of Versailles...but without this treaty no Poland...now what?

All together there were something like 50 million people killed during WW2, It's just that some groups have more "tools" to promote their victimhood than others...

"promoting victimhood"???

What's that for an attitude...

Actually Poland wasn't alone in being the battlefield of foreign armies:

Germany was the country which was once parted into more than 300 little statelets, with the most neighbours of all countries...no clear borders like rivers or mountains...always being either invaded or marched through.

The hundred years war cost us 1/3 of the population and let the whole country devastated (worse than WWII)
That all changed to the better only 1871!

Do you hear Germans whine all the time?

Poland never colonized unlike their European brothers

Look at a historical map...the slavs wandered into central europe much later than the germanic tribes.
It was no empty land!

Plus the Indians were so behind on technology, basically military....they blew it.

So...being technological more advanced than your enemy gives your the right to take the land away?
Then why are you criticizing the Germans???
They were always technically and militarily advanced....

PS: Not to forget, as the Czech Republic vanished it was also Poland gulping down a piece of it...

History / Are Germans going to pay for WW2? [180]

Comparing our military to Germany's heading into the war is ridiculous

The problem was the Poles never believed that before 1939.
Highest VIP's bragged "In one week in Berlin" etc...
One even spouting "Germany can't avoid war even if she wanted to!"
(Said person had to flee at foot to Romania after the Wehrmacht came if I remember correctly)
We all know how annoying a Pole can be and utterly estranged from reality!

And of course they counted on France and GB to help them out if the pushes came to shove.
