Life / Why do a lot of Polish people stare and why is good personal hygeine shunned? [108]

As for personal hygiene ... the lasts couple of posts are all pretty defensive ....In this day & age I don't believe anyone doesn't have access to running water , poor personal hygiene is nothing short of disgusting & should not be tolerated .

I agree, I will be late for work as long as it means getting my teeth brushed and having a shower...the hair can wait. Then first thing after work I need a shower because running about all day after folk leaves me feeling dirty and, even if it's not there, i feel like I must smell.

As for hair products...I think they are great, my hair is all stupid and fluffy without a bit of wax on it. I look like a teddy bear just out the tumble drier when i come out the shower (my hair anyway) and I hate it. Nothing wrong with a bit of control on the hair front.

News / EU elections in Poland: excuses for not voting please [43]

I didn't vote because there was no one on the card that I wanted to vote for. I dislike the SNP because I am a fan of the Union. The only one's I would have realistically voted for would have been Green but i disagree on too many of their policies. So I scrapped my slip.

Food / TINNED CORN (MAIZE) GALORE IN POLAND [11]

We use it on pizzas and in Salads in Scotland. Not a trend, just tasty, especially with Spicy Chicken on a pizza!

Love / THE TYPICAL POLISH WOMAN? [148]

Unfortunately the anecdote stopped short of saying what would have been done in England, Ireland, Germany and elsewhere.

In Scotland we would have battered it, deep fried it and served it with chips. :P

Life / Transport: the best way of moving stuff to Poland. [11]

dtparcels.com

I will jump into their office when I am back in Glasgow and see what the rates are. They seem to be the simplest for me...I am quite local to their Glasgow agent anyway. I will tell you how much I get quoted when I find out.

So i ****** all over her ****.

I decided to go for pure perversion instead of actual rhythm or rhyme.

Love / CULTURAL DIFFERENCE/PROBLEMS IN MIXED POLISH-UK MARRIAGES [34]

From the overall description of welshguy's wife's behavior, i would conclude it's about control.
If the kid speaks Welsh, then he/she can talk to welshguy in a language the mother does not understand. And she loses control over their communication. She cannot interfere in the coversation, she doesn't know if they're not saying things she wouldn't like them to say. From what I read, I get an image of a woman who wants to have complete control over her son's upbringing, and such control is impossible when the child and the father can communicate in a language unknown to her.

If that is a case (and I think it is) could a possible way of dealing with it be to offer to teach her some phrases and things in Welsh, encourage her to join in when you are teaching your son Welsh. That way she doesn't feel like she is losing a means of communication but rather gaining one...which would help with your [welshguy] parents as well :)

Life / Transport: the best way of moving stuff to Poland. [11]

That would be awesome if you could. Doing it on a few tripe would be a bit of a nightmare, i mean Ryanair are giving nothing in the luggage allowance...plus a whole flight home and back just for picking things up is a hell of a hassle.

If you could check that out, and you think it is reliable...then that would be great.

Food / Help with info on a peculiar vodka/cream drink. [13]

Irish creme, vodka, Kaluha

Personally I make it with vanilla vodka, kahlua, baileys, creme de cacao and top up with half and half (milk and cream)...then top with some chocolate

Life / Transport: the best way of moving stuff to Poland. [11]

First off, I did a quick search and never found anything relating to my query...so if there is one then feel free to move me there mods.

I am heading to Poland soon and I am wondering...what is the best way of moving my stuff over. I don't have any furniture (worth taking) so it will mostly be DVDs, Clothes and random rubbish...maybe my hi-fi. It wouldn't be worth getting a container...it would proabably all fit in 2 or 3 boxes. Now would it be cheaper for me to post this out from the UK...or can anyone reccommend a decent haulage company that will do this for me?

Love / In your opinion, are most Polish women 'Easy'? [243]

Stop generalizing and stop going after sluts

Sometimes it's not just going after sluts. But often when you are a foreign person you seem different and more appealing to local women. That can happen anywhere. I certainly noticed more female attention in Poland to being in Glasgow or anywhere else in the UK. Not in a "come on back to mine" big boy. But just a much more friendly and outoingness towards me...might just have been folk wanting to practice english or have someone about who they could mock with their friends though.

UK, Ireland / Polish Spitfire shoots down BNP [63]

I agree and it must seem very unfair to be on the receiving end when you just want a bit of help rather than endless hand-outs.

I have met many a person who have had no other option and they eventually got nothing because they luckily found a minimum wage job before claiming date. But they were entitled to next to nothing (as I say I think it is 46 quid a week). But I also have met other people who are in the pub (and I didn't work in a cheap pub) talking about sky TV programmes the night before and they haven't had a job since leaving school...

...it is obvious the welfare system is not (to quote Ali G) "Well Fair"

Yes, the people who genuinely deserve it (as a temporary measure) struggle to claim and get anything more than the basic 46 pound a week. But people who just don't want to work...get loads.

UK, Ireland / Relocating to the UK [7]

Good advice, it can be cheaper going a depot in Glasgow by bus than paying the extra to Highlands and Islands. If you know what town you are going to then let either one of us know by PM and we can advise on ways and means to do it cheapest.

Language / Polish Language Pronunciation - Example Words and Phrases [178]

2. zloty - Hopefully I've spelled that correctly? Is the "L" pronounced with a "w" sound? And if zloty is like dollars in the U.S., and pounds in the U.K.....then what is the Polish word for cents (US)/pence (UK)?

It's a seperate letter £ pronounced like a w as W in polish pronounced like a v. There is various different letters in Polish. Ą (aon), Ć (ch), Ę (en), £ (w), Ń (nasally n), Ó (oo), Ś (sh), Ż and - (and someone else can fill you in on them cos i have no idea how to write them phonetically).

UK, Ireland / Polish Spitfire shoots down BNP [63]

Very true, I wish I had an idea...so far all I have is employ folk to beat them until they get up or just remove benifits for 6 months to sort the wheat from the chaff and then start again much stricter.

lazy bast*rds on the dole in the UK back to work

With or without immigrants...this needs to be done!

uncontrolled immigration is NOT good for the UK

I never said it was, I just stated that immigration is vital for the UK, being uncontrolled is ridiculous.

Maybe if hotels and the service industry paid a wage where a person with a family can actually survive then we wouldn't need CHEAP foreign labour.

I would love it if that was the case...but at the end of the day, it's a non-unionised industry relying on students, part time folk and immigrants to fill out the shifts. In an ideal world I would be able to run a cocktail bar with a wage that could pay a mortgage and stuff, but that's not gonna happen.

You reckon? Actually what would happen is that companies wouldn't take advantage of cheap labour and would be forced to pay a little bit more to locals.

I reckon that would happen in a few companies...but a LOT of them would go out of business. At this moment in time there are about 10 pubs/restaurants going out of business a week...you think that banning immigrants would help this?

Anyway hopefully if the UKIP get a bash, they drag us out of the EU!

I am still undecided about the UK and the EU...so forgive me for not debating on this one.

What the BNP are failing to realise with their biggoted views is that we neeed immigrant workers. Come to any small town and you will see that. Places like cafes and hotels cannot get local people to work there and are having to go abroad. The George Hotel here has about 75% foreign staff due to a shortage in local people.

Ban immigration and the amount of companies in the UK that go bust would be ridiculous.

Oh, and the leaflet made me laugh...what a bunch of idiots.
