Travel / I'm off to Poland tonight :) is there anything should take with me? [20]

I'm nervous (in a good way) because I've heard so much about Poland and now I'm going!

You will love it. The only advice that I can give you is take a good electrical multi-adapter with you. It is mostly 2 pin plugs there, but in many hotels there are sockets with an extra pin ( I assume for earthing ) and I had trouble connecting anything to it.

Language / Correct form of BYĆ. Please help! [96]

Merged: Help with polish grammar - byc on/ona?

In the following text- On jest chłopcem, Ona jest dziewczynką On jest mężczyzną and Ona jest kobietą why are the endings used like this and not chłopiec, dziewczynka, mężczyzna and kobieta? Not sure if this is the dative case, but if it is then it might explain it?

Also in what context would you use panu , pana and the female panią as opposed to pan, pani?

Life / PAYING TO TAKE A PISS IN POLAND, it's BIZARRE [77]

but not as strange as walking into a Russian mens toilet and finding a woman in an office opposite the urinals ready to take your money

Don't know if is is still the same but it was like that also in France and Belgium a few years ago. I also remember walking past the mens toilets in a large supermarket and all the urinals were in view to anyone who went past the open door.

Love / What is the sexiest part in a polish woman body? [78]

Scottish females generally have slightly larger ones. I do! And would like it to be smaller

I shouldn't worry to much. Most men would probably say that, a slightly larger one is more nicer and more sexy than a smaller one :)

UK, Ireland / Bobski the Builder ... Channel 4, 9pm Thursday16th Oct 2008 [20]

personally i dont believe that jarek didnt make any money at all..

True! At the end of the day the TV company were making a programme and they had entertainment value first on their list. It would not surprise me if they also paid to put the work right again as one client seemed to be laughing a lot. In the case of the British builder I think they would have to start from scratch again.

UK, Ireland / Bobski the Builder ... Channel 4, 9pm Thursday16th Oct 2008 [20]

I must say that the standard of work from the British building firm is some of the worst that I have seen for a long time, and don't know how they manage stay in business, if they do! Most of the work was carried out by two young men who just come out of collage, and it showed that they did not have the experience.

The polish team on the other hand did a tidy job. but messed up a bit on the inside, and the concrete that they made, just did not look right. Their client was a knob as well! Jarek's two work mates seemed OK, but he just did not have the experience to run a building firm in as little as 5 years. Can't blame them for trying though and they put in some long hours and give lots of free extras.

The British building team were not a good advert for the good building companies, and there are many good ones around. The best ones come recommend from family and friends, who have been happy with their work in the past.

Travel / My trip to Poland - I hated Katowice, loved Krakow, and adored Bielsko [59]

Personally I think since the regeneration of Brindley Place and the town centre B'ham

agreed! The pedestrian area in the city centre of brum looks good now,and alot of work went in to making it look like this. There is also some nice buildings around and not many cities can boast having their own beach in the centre of town. Lol.

This young couple have but some photos of their trip here.

Language / How to pronounce long consonants in Polish? [6]

'i' is not a consonant

of course it's not, ;) I knew it was a vowel but was more interested in the pronunciation of double i's at end of words. So one i is silent, many thanks for explaining that.

When we have two identical consonants next to each other

which would be the correct way to pronounce two identical consonants on the end of a word eg ... jestem z Australii? One silent or both long?

del boy as you are so interested in the orange order, and if I remember you are in Derry, why don't you just go to one of the pubs in the Bogside or Creggan and ask some of the kind folk there to answer all of your questions?

Some men like fake some like natural - it's just preference.

Thats a womans point of view. Most men if they were honest, would prefer natural.

UK, Ireland / The Orange Order vs Poles...again [37]

When I lived in NI, things were a lot worse than at present. The best way to lead a normal life there is to, keep one's religious beliefs to ones self, don't try to ram them down someone else's throat and carry on with your life. There has got to be more important things to worry about than religion.

what is it , that you wish to know Del boy?

On the subject of religious beliefs this is a statement by Tottenham Hotspur FC to traveling fans going to Krakow on Thursday..

"Please note that Wisla Krakow do not allow flags bearing the Star of David to be displayed by home or visiting fans as these fall within the category of religious/political banners/symbols."

Care to shed any light on why this is not allowed?
