History / Poland Betrayed in WW2 [243]

how are you going to achieve closure if you keep talking about the subject, what has happened has happened, you can't change it, its not like a contempary issue is it???

Normally I would agree with you but if Russia is trying to deny Katyn again they are asking for the wounds to reopen.....

I think Polish history should give young Poles hope and pride that their Grandparents or great-Granparents overcame such terrible adversity. It should instill a sense of encouragement that they can change Poland for the better. But alas maybe I'm just a dreamer.

I also agree with that......

What is it you fear? Give the new generation credit. Or are you referring to Feliks and myself? We are the ones that lost our fathers homeland. You see Poland has victims that have a right to speak. Kind of funny the way "Communism" silenced the people and now the very people our fathers fought to protect think they can silence us.

You have the god given right to discuss this, especially because your looking for closure.... It's clear your intentions are pure....

Love / Polish-Islam Relationship Union [450]

For example: by Islamic law, non-Muslims don't have much of standing in court. The court law counts the word of the Muslim as true even if two pagans, three Jews and four Christians say otherwise. Christians cannot build new churches or repair the old ones. Non-Muslims cannot own a house that is bigger than their Muslims neighbors. Muslim woman may not marry non-Muslims

I'm not at all suprised at this... I wish more people read this book so they can see the mindset these people have..... Some people on this forum try to potray these people as , victims trying to protect themselves..... I say protect what??? their savagry.....

There stance on condoms....... There stance on no sex before marriage

Now I understand the Church can't adovate such things and say it's okey(so I respect there stance) but that's why it's good that we have the state to step in and be much more pratical when it come's to such matters...

yes the history is important but it should not be paramount and the number 1 issue in their lives.

Good point..... History is important but it's not everything...... Also I'm sorry about your accident.....

History sometimes repeats itself so we can't completely disregard it... But at the same time history doen't always repeat itself... So we can't live in the past...

We need to find the right balance between History and living in the present..... However with Tusk I think Poland has managed to find that balance....

News / Do you think that Polish catholics resent the new German Pope? [108]

Do you know how they explain this position?

Don't know, don't care.... But Im sure you will tell me.....

Please... Show me one Christian state without such separation,

There isn't one your right... But not because of the Church.... but because the people demanded it.... I never heard of the Church every adovacating such a position...

Wrong again, Catholic Church don't deny evolution as long somebody don't claim that this theory exclude creationism. While from scientific point of view nobody ever proved that theory of evolution exclude theory of creationism.

They might not exclude it but they sure don't teach it..... They only teach creationism...

You have no idea that in the past the church ran education in Europe and students somehow did not complain. Priest Nicolaus Copernicus (educated in such school) and many others would disagree with you. Personally I don't care who announcing some scientifically proved theory. Beside of that the clergy rather don't work on professional carrier these days.

Some science church accepts and some science the church does not.... They sure as hell don't accept stem cell research or any genetic research.... They see it as humans playing God......

They are for abortion on demand, so how a Christian could vote on them? The rest of your sentence was proved wrong above.

Like I said already, I don't support all the positions of politicans as I don't support all the positions of the church...... however doesn't mean I can't support either of them because they have many positions that I do agree with....

Here's a hypothetical for you.... Let's say you have a politican where you know that he would stamp out all corruption, bring in the highest economic growth in a decade, improve health care, improve education, improve the whole country.... Would you not vote for him just because he supports abortion.... No need to answer I already know the answer to that.....

Almost forgot,

I think Poland's abortion stance is perfect....... Only in cases of rape or medical reasons...

Don't hesitate to post them. :)

There stance on condoms....... There stance on no sex before marriage, etc I can still list more if your intrested...

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

Are you from Germany by any chance?

Naw American and Polish citizenship. Now to be honest I have found Poles(except my close friends) don't accept me as a Pole because I grew up in America. However I started to become a little snobby just to pi*s them off and they seemed to become a little nicier. Same with the people in the stores, don't be afraid to be a little assertive and their hard shell will crumble...

Good be also because I workout and compared to most Poles I'm twice there size...

brate, what`s wrong with you?? Are you on grass?

we don`t speak about Orthodoxy but about universal Christian values.

what's wrong with you, your retarded if you think we should have a problem with the pope just because he's German

f majority of people would act like a good Christians, I have no idea how this could be harmful for the country.

First Church is against abortion even if a person is raped..... What the fu*k.... How can we ask a women to have a baby of a rapist...... Second look at muslim nations where there is no seperation of church and state, it just breeds extremetism. Thirdly church doesn't believe in evolution. Fourthly Church and Science don't mix very well. There's many others.

However because we discuss some certain case, please write at which point Clinton's/Obama's platforms are right and the church is wrong?

First they respect abortion in case of rape. Second they respect seperation of church and state. They believe in evolution(whoever doesn't is a fu*ken idiot). They respect science. and many others.

So you can see the church is not always right, also whose to say what a good Christian is... Am I not a good Christian because I believe in evolution or becaue I believe a women has a right to abortion when she's raped.

Neither the Church or Politicians are always right, but as I said that doesnt mean that we can't support both?

News / Do you think that Polish catholics resent the new German Pope? [108]

Indeed this is nothing wrong because for Polish people he was more than Pope. However people who somehow mentally transfer their liking of JPII to disliking of BXVI seriously lost their way...

Agreed no one is denying this......

If Christians are unwilling to vote for candidates who would stand in defense of the Christian values then whom other people would do this? (We are talking about crucial issues not any trivial disagreements!)

What's good for religion is not always whats good for the country.... The church isn't always right you know....

This comment exposed your lack of knowledge of the US politics. Obama all the time repeating that he is a Christian.

You might be right, I heard that from friends whereas I should have done my own research... However its not religion what matters, it's his views... Plus this doesn't change the facts that good people can be found in all faiths... So whatever he is doesn't matter and shouldn't matter to anyone.... As long as he respects seperation of church and state....

however I can assure you that among top politicians a chance to find such person is very tiny.

Agreed but not impossible, plus it's time to change this....

This is realistically impossible, whole system is based on this that these two parties are in opposition to each other. In fact this is the greatest success of both parties that they convinced Americans that their candidates are the only electable.

Yes I already pointed this out.

Thank you for all those recommendations and Ill try my best to see if I can find them at borders and I'll also try to locate them at the library....

I'd much rather just type out the paragraphs here than have you spend 30 bucks for a little illumination.

I'd really much apprecite it if you find the time and are willing to do it...... Whenever you can, please post it here or feel free to PM, whichever works for you..

History / Poland Betrayed in WW2 [243]

If anyone has the wonderful book "Gods Playground" by Norman Davies, the chapter in the second Volume entitled "The Polish Emigration" has a section on the disunion of Polish America. It does a better job at explaining than I do.

Thank you for the recommendation, and Ill make sure to keep an eye out for the book next time I'm at borders... Your explanation does make perfect sense and goes a long way to explain these shortfalls.... Some things still puzzle me, but hopefully the book will be able to answer that....

History / Poland Betrayed in WW2 [243]

For my part, I'm a member of the Polish American Congress in Southern California.

First, I like to say that I have been reading your posts for the past couple weeks and it's an honor we have a person like you that represents the Polish people.

Our goals are meagre at best, we don't have a lot of political clout but one of our main objectives,

I am suprised that Poles have been here for such long and with fairly high numbers and we are not able to achieve the political clout as the latino community has (I know there numbers are higher but that is not our only shortfall). We need much better organization and pull all our resources to influence local elections. The latino community has done a fairly good job at this. Poles should vote for a candidate between themselves and then all Poles should come together and vote for that candidate in the local elections. Our strength will be if we all stick together.

Polish history is nearly ignored in American schools.

I can attest to this. I've taken history in collage and experienced the same.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

A decent relationship yes, a good relationship no. Move on? More like pretend that the situation is not as bad as it is and just ignore it. IMO it would be counter-productive not to discuss it.

Sorry if it pisses you of but its just another point of view

In the end your right, but not very constructive.

Do you want all schools in the world to learn history by the Polish curriculum?

No not necessarily but let's be honest here, Poland's contributions have been underestimated in many textbooks from other countries.

Which I may add is very tainted in its Polishness the same way as other countries are.

We should remove all exaggerations no matter in what textbook be it Polish, English, American, French or what have you. Out of curiosity can you be more specific about Polish exaggerations in their textbooks...... None seem to come to mind.

News / Do you think that Polish catholics resent the new German Pope? [108]

This might be odd and impossible, but I would support a Obama/McCain ticket... Nothing better would be for this country than a President and a Vice President from two differant parties... Would go a long way to heal the divisions in Politics.

Parties should be in competition but a healthy competition and not the dirt you see now... they should realize when it's time for the competition to be over and when it's time to work together for the common good. IMO

Now Im not naive and realize this could backfire.... If the parties can't agree there could be a stalemate... However I have enough faith that with so much at stake, parties will have no choice but to find common ground....

Worst case scenerio the President can override the VP if they can't agree....

Now since this is impossible my next choice would be what Juilie said.........

News / Do you think that Polish catholics resent the new German Pope? [108]

I wouldn't dream of disregarding Pope Benedict simply because he's German. But Poles, who in an inconsistent political landscape have always been consistently Catholic, had so much pride in John Paul II. Let us not forget that Solidarity might not have happened if it weren't for the elation and national pride that swelled with the Pope's election and visit in the late '70's. Polish Catholicism have survived three partitions, Nazism, and Soviet Communism, all that were out to destroy it. The Vatican, itself, abandoned Poland a few times, and yet it survived. It's not that we RESENT the German Pope, its just that John Paul II meant so much to us.

Also nicely put.........

Okay, I will give on my initial prejudism against Pope Benedict being German, and in Hitler's youth, for lack of FULL information. It does appear that he just was in it, and not in the army. I was thinking of the youths near the end of the war, who fought while Hitler committed suicide. There's 100 years of Governments murdering people last century, that I called this one prematurely.

To be honest I also had that initial reaction, but when I sat down and thought about it I realized the complicated reality of the day...

As for Pope Benedict: No, I do not feel in my heart that he said anything wrong, in that speech that infuriated Islam, except for one important point: HE is the leader of the Catholic Church, and needs to make sure as a WORLD LEADER, that he works towards healing the world, bringing it together. JP2 got that part down pat.

Agreed, Benedict should have focused on the positives not negatives between Catholics and Muslims as JP did, but it was not as such a big deal as everybody made it seem. Also it was the Pope's first year, he's no JP and probably will never be, but I think we should give him some time to learn the ropes. Filling JP's shoes is not easy....

I'm more than sure that JPII would not glad if he knew that some people practice his personal cult. It has nothing to do with Catholicism.

Cult, what cult..... If you consider love for the Pope and what he has done a cult, than I guess all I have to say is sign me up

If nationality isn`t important why is Benedict a German?

because he was born in Germany.... why in Germany, that you will have to ask God....

In other thread you appear to be Clinton fan, here claim to be Catholic. What is the reason of this inconsistence? You don't know Clinton political agenda or teaching of the Catholic church? Because these two things don't go along...

What inconsistency.... You can be a Catholic and vote Clinton..... what are you saying a Catholic can only vote for a Catholic. Good explanation is, she doesn't agree with all of Clinton's views or she doesn't agree with all of the churches views. Doesn't mean she can't support both.

I support Obama and he's muslim ...... Good people can be found in all faiths.

News / Do you think that Polish catholics resent the new German Pope? [108]

First Poles don't resent the German Pope, he recieved a huge audience when he visited Poland.....

Your "polish" Pope couldn't do it either...

The Polish pope was one of the best Popes we ever had... He improved Catholic-Jewish relations, Catholic-Muslim relations and he did accomplish a lot with Catholic-Orthodox relations.

He maybe didn't reunite the two churches but he did more than any other Pope has done to breach the differances between us.

and try to be more secular in their heart and minds

Sure let's just follow the social downfall that's happening in western EU, not to mention it is our religion that destroyed communism. Poles are religous but they are not extreme. They love the church but also respect and love science. I think Poland has managed to find the right balance. Not saying the church is not irrational sometimes but that doesn't mean that we should throw out all the church's teachings. I am not very religous either but I can find the beauty of Polish devotion to the church.

It's not a blind devotion either... Poles question the church just as many others in western EU, but just because we don't agree with all teachings doesn't mean we disregard all else.

zenit.org/article-16955?l=english

Speech where the German Pope so called offended Islam....... He didn't lie, Islam believes in the spreading of its religion by the sword if need be. He has a right to critize such ideology. It was not expected and didn't help with Catholic-Muslim relations but it's not like he wasn't right.

Also you can't critize the Pope for serving in Hitler's youth.... These were children who did not understand the full grasp of there choices(if they even had a choice). If he served in the army than that would be another story.

Almost forgot, if you think what the Pope said about Islam(which is true) is even remotely comparable to what the immans say in there medressa's against Christians(which is 90% BS) than your ____________(adj). I'll leave that blank........mad libs anyone........

JaneKB doesn't realize(lack of education)that Russia is using Gasprom as political tool, is rolling back democracy, is responsible for cyber attack on Estonia, is threatening Poland with nukes for building DEFENSIVE weapons, has killed dissents on foreign soil, etc.....

Please educate yourself on what Russia is up to before you respond to this post...

Also educate yourself on China, its going to take them at least 50 years to catch up to the US.

PS the shield is in polands interest.... a package worth 20 billion, much more then Russia can offer... not to mention we are still trading with Russia regardless of our intention to base the shield...

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

For US, Its probably against Iran and a small extent Russia.... For Poland its about Russia and who knows any other country that can turn into an enemy of Poland...... So what , are you telling me a country can't build defensive weapons.... My friend can you say defensive.... meaning only if we get attacked.... why would Russia be so angry with a weapon that will be used to protect Poland and not attack Russia? Does Russia want to keep the option open of attacking.....

I don't care if the shield is used to protect us from the Pope.... the shield is defensive and if your not planning on attacking, you have nothing to worry about.....

Also I don't recall Poland or US crying about Russias anti air defence systems....
