Life / Black American Living In Poland [283]

[

Why are we speaking of detroit? There is nothing good to say about it. I lived there in the 80s and there is a reason why everybody left and only negros reside. It is a city filled with crime and welfare dwindlers. In the early days detroit was a great city but those days are gone now for good. It is no ones fault but the people who populate it. Patrycja you are far more likely to be jumped in detroit at 2am then salt lake city for example. But everyone knows that.

I never said you couldnt get jumped, I know you can. as for salt lake city, no they
only steal kids from excuse me young females to add to their harem of women and
make them part of their flock of the polygamists. yeah I wanna go there for a
vacation!! :)

Patricyja if you are not born in poland you are not polish but amerikan. Possibly of polish descent but not polish as to be born in poland. Do you speak the language?

I have right of blood, never said I wasnt american, and I am not going thru the same
argument I had before on here in another thread, I could go get citizenship right now
but dont have to , I know who and where my family comes from and came here to
learn my culture, and what beef is it that you have with me to start telling me that
I have no rights, that isnt even what we are talking about , I still have family in poland
right now and could jump on a plane and come live with them anytime, but I dont
so anything else??

You are smoking crack. The latest just came recently on the facts that the Indians did indeed come from Asia and established Empires. There is no Empire from Europe. You need to stop your racist view that all civilizations start and stop with white Europe.

that is all he can post about because thats all he talks about, he claims others are
in shells, but the only posts ole schultz'y boy has even responded to are the ones
that involve racism.

Patrycja are you even polish? I bet that isin't even how you spell your name. With 1131 posts since you came here in october? lol , Get out from your shell and look around your city

ha ha :)

what a smart fella you are, you got me pinned dont ya. omg, whatever would I do
without the smartness and right on key posts.

Polish? hmmmmmm Let me check and see.

oh, wow, I am 100%. gosh guess that makes me Qualified to be here huh?

afraid of detroit? no , not afraid, just smart, I dont walk there at 2 am and ask for
people to mug me, and guess what, this can happen in the suburbs too, so you
need to get out of your little shell and look around ,cause it happens in every city
not as often, but if someone wants something, they will find a way to get it, and that isnt limited to detroit honey!

Nobody appreciates racism anymore.

you got that right , hes worthless to society. I wouldnt even let my tires get soiled
by him, not worth it. your the type of people that no one wants to be around and in
the end , wind up lonely in a nursing home with no family and nothing left to show
good in your life because all your life you fought against something you had no
just cause for. good luck schultz , your gonna need it!

you are schultz, you cant even join because then you would get kicked out of here
and that would be so bad. or maybe you are one of those closet freaks ehh?

Life / JOKES ABOUT POLISH. Have we deserve it? [68]

what about USA?What reputation Poles have in there?

well, I have heard numbers of Polish jokes, but I dont pay attention anymore
or really havent heard one in a long time, yes some are funny, it does depend on
who's telling it and how they come across.

if its all in good fun, say in a conversation, like my uncle, who was polish, took no
offense to polish jokes and told them to my dad who was also polish, both would
laugh it off as if it was no big deal, but if its a stranger, someone whos trying to
be the life of a party and constantly telling same jokes over all night, yes, then
irritating comes to mind. if it keeps up, its time to show him the door and let it hit
him on the backside while he leaves. or if it is meant to make another feel bad, like
constantly pointing at the friend who is polish and calling him names and or her
and making embarassing comments jokingly or insulting jokingly, yes that is also
reason to get upset. maybe the word I am looking for is the tone of the joke?

every nationality has jokes about their own or someone else, so it isnt just about
polish, no, it isnt right for anyone to get carried away and keep making jokes,
but carry yourself high, and dont let them bother you, you know your not stupid
polish know they are not stupid, look at all they have done! so why would anyone
even believe this? people do things like that to make themselfs feel bigger, but
its these kinds of people who stand out in the wrong way and make themselfs
look really stupid. Trust me, rather then get angry, just have pity for them cause
later in life, they find themselfs really lonely and not a crowd attraction anymore.:)

UK, Ireland / My fellow brits here - are "traitors" by not dating English girls? [103]

Ty Razz.

There is a code of honor among friends, least with my friends.

Friends are there to listen, not become your best critic, just like with men and
women, friends dont go after your ex , or the same man /woman you are in love
with. friends no matter where/how far, will always be there to listen, whether its
on the phone, or in a letter.

And to this day, I dont get to see my friends that often, but when I do, we always
feel the same, and they know they can call me as I can them if I should need them
Its a bond you form, not a act to have a social life.

How can people make comments about people and countries they had never seen?

I agree with this.

but u cant accuse whole nation for individual behaviours of some idiots..

I also agree with this. weve been saying this all along. some dont get it.

I am sure when bojo has children, he will punish the whole 10 of them even the
newborn for something his middle child did, but they will all suffer because
there is no rationalization only generalization with him, so if one did it they will
all suffer , right boj ?

maybe making this point wouldnt come across anyways , so forget it. :)

UK, Ireland / My fellow brits here - are "traitors" by not dating English girls? [103]

If the English girls treat you like that, then why would you want to be around them?
It's your life, you want to be around people who don't treat you like that, who make you happy. Blow them off. Let them say what they want, don't give in.
You're not a traiter, that is a very immature and narrow-minded gesture. Be above them all and ignore them. Who wants to be around people that put you down all the time?

Very well said Krysia! same goes for me, who wants to be around people who
are supposed to be your friends , yet they dont support you in any way shape or
form and are giving you heck for being yourself and wanting to date polish gals?

thats very immature of them, and apparently they arent your friends, friends are
there to listen , not to tell you how to live your life! get some new friends and tell
them to go back and learn manners!

You don't have to be genious to figure that one out. Your ex wanted to piss english ladies off so she spread the story that you only date polish girls. She wanted to cause havoc and she manage to do so perfectly. Don't blame english ladies for their reaction. I would say that this time it's perfectly understandeble.

no one is blaming english, what the problem is, is the pack of friends hes hangin
with, when you have good good friends you will know it, they wont put you down
they wont challenge or rather question your choices, only support and say I am with
you every step. what he said could be someone else only different form or generalization, like say for instance, rich vs poor, someone whos stuck up their own

butt, and hes hangin with them, but theres some girls that come in that are down
to earth and dont wear expensive clothes, yet are more fun to be with and they say
why are you hangin with them? they dont have what we have!

isnt about nationality all the time, they used it as their crutch, it is about social
mannerism and jealousy or just blurting out crap with no back up as to why
needs addressing. I would have asked what the problem was with the polish
girls? what do they not have that you have? explain, and give some dam good
answers or shut the hell up! I would say this to any of my friends who stood around
staring at people and calling them names, or putting down men who were my friends
who were another nationality.

next time you talk to them, ask them whats hanging out of their nose , and see
if that shuts them up for the night!
sorry, but anyone and everyone who is like that needs to be told. I dont hang with
people who think they are better.

Life / CAN NON-POLISH UNDERSTAND POLAND? [17]

thats my point like! :/ she is still not accepting it and im accused of acting like i know everything (i dont - i never talk about things i dont know about)

Daffy, unfortunately, you will know what you learn, there is way to much to soak
up, lots of things are not said, and lots of things are hidden from the public, just
like in all countries, they only let you see what they want you to see. so I am going
to have to agree with your GF on the news is not enough.

The media shows what they want, to grab the watchers eye, and then down play
it like it is nothing to be concerned about. least that is what I percieve , so I dont
believe everything. and what is said, I would question. are the full facts placed
out there? did you get the whole story, or half? look at the war for instance.

do we really know whats going on, no I am sure there is much more we are not
getting to hear about, or see on television or in the newspapers because it would
send the public into a frenzy if we really knew the truths. <~we only hear what
they will allow the media to show. other then that, I am sure all the edited stuff
gets tossed aside into some private tape. not for public viewing.

but, I do also agree with you, what you learn , you can know about that, it sounds
like your having a spat over nothing because you both can be right :)

so just hug and forget it :)

Life / Polish toughness contests [9]

""Toughness contests are a traditional part of Polish recreational life,"

Either these guys were one noodle short of a brain, or this is a joke meant to
throw people off. never in my whole life did I even hear, and my familys from
Poland, my dad wasnt taught any thing like this, and if it was true, it was isolated
incident which I am sure those boys got life imprisonment for their stupidity.

if you believe this, your gullible. like Giles said, only those countries which
we have seen proof of this, and thats because its their govts laws, or their
not punished like normal people are in civilization. example Saddam who had
control and did whatever he wanted till he was stopped, and I think they only
did it because the whole planet was watching to see what would happen to
such a sick man. he got away with to much for to long.

but no, never ever have I heard of such a game or even a thought like this of
anyone polish and Ive always had strong impressions that Poland was based
on Traditions and Culture and has and always will be Peaceful nation!

News / Dealing with constant insults against Polish [323]

the Russian Government gives Russian people a bad name. They are generally just like us Poles, they like their food, Vodka, and parties

I dont believe it, I have a friend who just moved from Russia to New Zealand and
she had students she taught, her schedule was really different. so I was learning
all about how they do things, and she asked me to explain to her a Question
which I am going to find, makes for a good conversation on here. but my impression
of the question left me with thought that Russia makes it seem like no one should
leave or try to better themselfs somewhere else because the commercial market
is the same, like they were saying, or telling people, our products are not as good
as theirs so therefore why buy them? it was hard to explain it at the same time
hard to understand it. I will have to find this Question and post !

Most people in the US still think half of Poland is Jweish. They don't teach about the rest of the world at all in the US.

NO your wrong, its the teachers who pick the cirrculum <~ahh spelling
yes, we learn about alot, in school they push it so fast you dont have time to get
interested, least I didnt, and some teachers didnt even teach at times, but yes
I remember learning or having to study alot on europe, and because some teachers
didnt take the time to teach , my grades sucked.

I learned more out of school then I did in it.

as for Poland being half Jewish, again, your wrong from my standpoint.

I just think of Poland as Poland. good food, hospitality, and friendly.

News / Dealing with constant insults against Polish [323]

The Russians defeated the Nazi's.

Why is it when we all learn about history theres different versions of it?

and why is it when someone says America did it, that NO we didnt do anything
to help, we didnt come in and rescue anyone, we just stood around drinking
java and watched while everyone else who was getting reemed a new arse
did it all?

Im not saying russia didnt put up a good fight, but dont talk smack about America
when you dont even know. only those who fought know what it was like
and what they lived through. proof is in what they saw. what they lived through.

thats history. learning from those who survived thru it!

Genealogy / Poland- Stories from the Ancestors Homeland [20]

I know this isn't a story about the homeland, but I just wanted everyone to know about my grandma, and what a wonderful person she was.

its ok, I will agree with you, I think all grandmas have had a struggle to get to
where we are today, I could not imagine spending so much time on a boat travelling
to the united states like they did for a better life. and it was not better at first, it
was hell for so many, because it was a new place with no family. only until family
came they were truely alone, and had to make a living, and prepare for family to
come . being called names, payed low wages , etc. language barriers etc.

mostly the men would do this, but the women also had to travel like this, and
how they did it is beyond me. truely amazing.

ok back on topic.

:)

my grandma used to come over to help my mother with laundry and housework
and just spend the weekend with my mom and her son in law!

my grandma and my father didnt get along, and so everything he did was wrong
in grandmas eyes.

one weekened my mom invited her over to stay and help, during this time, her and
my mom would buy a bottle of wine and have a glass while doing these chores.
well, before they knew it, the wine was low, so my mom put it away, and ran
downstairs to get some more laundry which was hanging up drying.

when she got back upstairs, she seen the bottle sitting empty on the counter
and grandma sitting looking smug.

she asked who drank the rest of the wine?

My grandma decided to blame my dad who was sleeping drank it.

She finally fessed up to the crime later on.

UK, Ireland / Heavy drinking culture in the UK - is it still the same in Poland? [69]

It's not the alkohol....it's irresponsible people with no self control.

This is true,

One thing that I have hard time with, was when my mom drank, she drank I guess
to drown her problems, which it never did, they are always there, so that was a
excuse to drink, then after my father died, she drank because what else is there
to do? then it was because she deserved it.

when i was going out, and with my friends, I never denied I did, so that would come
up too, well you drink why cant I? I couldnt argue her point till I no longer did
then it was the excuses all over again.

I no longer have my mom, but it was not the alcohol that got her it was cancer.

my older brother drinks, every day he is off, and not just beer, its Whiskey and
beer, and not just a pint, but a fifth of Whiskey.

what scares me the most about this, is I cant do something about it till he wants
to, but I dont think that day will ever come.

USA, Canada / Obtaining Church Records in U.S. [19]

koach, yes that is what that stands for.

I got your email, so I will get these to you.

I was looking at some of the records. found them in 1920 and there is decrepancies
of dates. do you have a actual date of marriage? besides what I had come up
with?

ok, going to try to send the cencus. still looking up the draft. for some reason
the name must be way off on spelling because it isnt coming up .

might take a few.

USA, Canada / Obtaining Church Records in U.S. [19]

oops, lol forgot to say, no problem :) I am going to look :)

:)

Koach, ok heres what I found and found right away :)

1930 cencus says Basil kocielko - Wife helen
children joseph, dominic, paul, anna, chester, john all in that order.

Wasyl was spelled wrong on cencus, of course. in 1930 he worked for the railroad
and was a car repair man.

both him and helen are aliens (not naturalized) so you can obtain records from
the immigration offices with freedom of information act form.

Wasyl and Helen married when he was 32 and she was 17 <~young chickadee :)
and he immigrated 1906 and she immigrated in 1909 so as soon as she came
off the boat, he must have asked her to marry, because the marriage date I come
up with is 1909 :)

the street they live on is Luther avenue in Joliet illinoise.
and the house number is 124, which there are others living there, so that leads
me to believe they live in apt building of some type in their own unit.

I am going to check out the drafts now, see if he signed up, he more then likely
did, so I am saving these for you.

Luther ave - now just have to do a map quest, see how far that is from the cemetarys
and churches. they didnt have cars right away so , more then likely they would
have lived close to church. so do a map quest, and you now have a estimated date
of marriage, it shouldnt be to hard to find their marriage and baptismals now since
you can have them look for the marriage, and if they find it out of the two parishes
then you can the rest of the birth dates etc :)

:) :)

Koach, email me via here, and then I will email you the cencus and drafts etc
because you are blocked, so I can send you the records :)

USA, Canada / Obtaining Church Records in U.S. [19]

ok one record at a time.

I would like to start with the Catholic and Orthodox churches in Joliet, IL. The problem is, I don't know which they attended. My great-grandfather Wasyl Kocielko attended the Orthodox church, while his wife Helen Pilip went to the Catholic church.

Well usually the groom Marries in the brides church. least in some cases.
in poland. you might have to write to both. let me see what I can come up
with on the ancestry tomorrow, I will see how close they are to either church
and maybe I can find some type of record online. if not its going to be all mail
but maybe we can narrow some research down a little :)

One thing I can tell you, I have called the cemetary, not always do you get a
good response, but I have called and told my purposes and they gave me the
info or called me back with the funeral home, the church (if they had a obit)
and family members involved. so that is another option.

I have no burial information for his sister Anna Lewicki, who lived in Hamtramck, MI.

I will look her up too :) and what I find I will email to ya :)

do you have ancestry.com already?

yes, in every church /parish, someone is designated for the records dept. so
I would write, it might take them a week or two depending on whats going on
and what you want, but yes, writing is much better.

Where are you looking What state?
