UK, Ireland / PASSPORTS FOR POLISH PEOPLE TO COME TO ENGLAND [103]

In the US, the burden is placed on the applicant to provide police certificates from everywhere they have lived.....if they don't provide them, they don't even get past the interview process.

It's not like that here but it should be.

Feedback / The issue of [not] writing in Polish on the forums (part 2) [45]

My understanding of PF is that it is a Forum about Poland/Polish people and for anyone (of any nationality) wishing to understand more about Poland/Polish Culture etc etc but that it was in English and therefore accessible to the entire world!

I also thought that the whole of PF was open to anyone was a member and a grand majority of it open for people to browse through and comment on as a guest.

Personally I feel that introducing a section where Polish only is spoken would not benefit this Forum in the slightest, but would, in fact, harm it.

But criminal checks take so long to do, it would be impossible to do it for everyone entering the UK

Absolutely. Therefore, ID cards in the EU at least, that held your criminal record would be beneficial.

Oh no! Like when a copper caught me cycling on a pavement aged 12?

Criminal!

Actually in thinking about Road Traffic Offences, a speeding fine will not always show up on your Crim Check. Drink driving etc, obviously will.

I don't know that they would- too risky. Even road traffic offences show up on a SCRO/Disclosure check, in fact even if you were not convicted its still on your SCRO.

I don't know. I think if a person applied to my place with say, five years of excellent experience in our field and had, ten years ago been involved in a brawl and nothing since, they'd get the job. My directors would be accountable for hiring them but you should be allowed to put something that happened once, a decade ago, behind you. For example of course. There are many different scenarios.

The Glasgow incident has moved things on a bit.

Well, let us hope so!

I think that the UK will end up with them eventually.

I think so too.

Good point, makes me wonder about all the "carers" looking for jobs on this forum from outside the EU.

Well, it is supposed to be getting tighter and I was at a 'meeting' about a month ago regarding this issue but it's still going to take years before every place does Disclosure properly, and for people coming to Scotland to work, Disclosure Scotland is all they need. So if they've been here six months that's all that will show on their Crim Record Check.

assault charges or even anything,

Even saying that you would probably not be offered a position in my place it would still depend on when the assault took place - say you were 16 and got into a teenage fight with another teenager over a girl/boy the powers that are Mightier Than Me would probably over look that, especially if say, ten years had passed with no further convictions.

this is exactly why Dolly when people come to this country they should be vetted first. We waste money on things like the dome and so on, that a few million to set up a decent immigration vetting service would seem more than worth it, don't you think??

I'm thinking more of recruitment. You may get into this country with a minor assault on your record which most places of work wouldn't bother about but which would probably result in you not being offered a job in my place. It would take me weeks to do a police check in another country and therefore would waste my time and the person applying for the position.

do they have a criminal record,

This may be slightly off at a tangent...

Not sure about the process in England/Wales/NI but when someone applies for a job in Scotland and are from another country a Disclosure Scotland check only goes as far back as how long that person has been in the country and reveals nothing about their records in other countries. For this a police check has to be requested from the last country they were in or were born etc. Now, if an ID card were introduced here and everytime you got a criminal conviction it was added to your ID card this would save a lot of time on Disclosure here in Scotland and if people coming from other countries carried ID cards with the same information it would also save a lot of time.

Not that I mean they wouldn't get into the country with an ID with convictions on it, I mean for when applying for jobs here in the UK. Requesting police checks from other countries takes weeks and if you've no convictions this can be very annoying.

I think the UK government want it, but the people of the UK don't. Is this correct ?

Seems to be. The British public are a bit paranoid about it. I think it would be a good idea if introduced correctly. What more could the government know with an ID card that they don't already know...?

Nope, infact I have never known any man in my life that appreciated being sent flowers. Regardless of nationality.

Don't have one! HA! ;)

I got your point Mr Admin! I know what you're saying about making sure to log off etc.

I was thinking about my Internet Banking as well, that logs off if the browser is shut for any reason.

:)

Feedback / Logon/Logoff [29]

it should be in the tools-->internet options or something like that

Yes it is, just looked. I'm going to check what's selected on work Comp tomorrow. Not so fussed about the house!

let's say you have your favourite pen in your drawer and your cooworker may use it while you're at home.

NEVER! They wouldn't dare! Just kidding.

It's not really the same though, is it? A pen in a drawer to a logged in website???

I do see what you are saying though.

eg. to log off if you don't trust your coworkers).

Thanks but without going into details, it's not always I have the time to logoff depending on why it is I've been distracted.

So when you have to, don't forget to logout.

I'll try Admin :)

Feedback / Logon/Logoff [29]

Admin, I think we've got mixed up somewhere. I was concerned that by getting distracted at work (a serious distraction - not just someone talking to me or something) I would get up and leave the computer as it was. Therefore on PF and logged in. After that I might end up going home and not thinking about it and when I log in at home, none the wiser (as its apparently possible to log in from multiple locations) I may find that someone (and there are idiots in my workplace) have commented on here using my identity. What's my point? ...hmm, erm...yeah, why doesn't it automatically Log Out when the computer shuts down?

Not saying that anyone has posted as me but worried that it's a possibility in the future. What about Internet Cafe's or do they have some way of getting around this???

ISP - Internet Service Provider

Me Gods! I know what that means!

I thought one of the points of your ISP was that they should know where and when you've been? No? I dunno. Admin, help me!

This was my point. Heavens above! :)

Do you know that your ISP may check which sites you have visited and what time?

Thanks for making me even more paranoid ADMIN!

Seriously though, I don't even know what that means. I thought one of the points of your ISP was that they should know where and when you've been? No? I dunno. Admin, help me!

Just like you may be logged on to the same email account

Not my main email account Admin, if I try and log in to it from another location and I haven't logged out somewhere else it won't let me open it.

One sec and ill test it, i'll log on from my other computer while being logged on this one :)

lol go on then :)

Correct. It's possible to logon in many different locations. Just like you may be logged on to the same email account, for example.

Admin

Hmm, dunno if I like this. Means if I do one day become distracted at work and leave the computer, someone could post as me! Doesn't it???

Are you sure? I have not forgotten to logoff at work so far but that's because I share a comp. I think it would be quite strange to be able to logon in many different locations? :)

Quick question for Admin or Mods, whoever knows the answer!

If I am on PF while at work and I forget to Logoff, will that mean I can't access PF from my home PC?

:)

Yeah I knew it had been closed for a bit...just after I had recommended it to a few people in Edinburgh...

Strange I also passed it today about an hour ago and it was open as well. Obviously getting the baking underway for tomorrow. I'm funny after somewhere has been closed for something like that...I don't know if I'll got there...it might take a while!
