UK, Ireland / National Holiday To Celebrate Britishness Could Be On It's Way [83]

Strangely, I've never heard that.

strangley enough you never think anything i say is true, correct or even has purpose so i'm not suprised by that to be honest.

Anyway its not just those particular words, they can be mixed around a bit and replaced by other words, plus your in scotland are you not?? I'm in england write now where the English are :)

UK, Ireland / National Holiday To Celebrate Britishness Could Be On It's Way [83]

Britain isn't a country.

no its England supported by Scotland & Wales, that sentence there is the problem, its what Enlgish people sometimes think, therefore the scots and welsh want to prove they have bigger balls and say 'stuff the english we can do without them' and you get that circle of hate hate and more hate. I'm happy for scotland and wales to be independent of England, after all England will be find, I expect Scotland will be too, Wales however i'm not sure

UK, Ireland / National Holiday To Celebrate Britishness Could Be On It's Way [83]

What would a British Day involve anyway? Street parties and events where we celebrate hundreds of years of being "British"? No, it would mostly involve too much drinking and probably a sudden surge on attacks on foreigners (maybe a slight exaggeration, who knows).

nice positive outlook there PD :) so nice to see that attitude towards a day which is supposed to bring everybody closer together and not pulling away :)

You haven't been in Scotland for a while then...

uuuhhh yes actually i have, not under good curcumstances but yes i have. Although my fatehrs relations live on one side of glasgow if you understand what i'm saying :)

Scotland subsidises the rest of the UK with its oil. UK government lied about the figures in the 70's as they were afraid that the true figure would encourage Independance. In the 80's it kept UK afloat and has done so since.

England can get the oil elsewhere, not like there isn't the big wide world out there or anything :)

as far as your claims of lies, i don't like getting into, he said she said situations so we'll leave it there :)

Don't see the point in a monarchy, een a Stuart one. Caley fan.

well to be honest i'm not a great fan of the monarchy but i'm not anti either, my goodness thats doubt on the monarchy and coming from a blue nose :) a few old firm games around the corner, let's hope they live up to the bill, they usually do!!!

History / Poland Betrayed in WW2 [243]

hahaha am i russian, lol, i don't think so, no chance, i leave those commy pigs to their wollow in their own mud. I'm not trying to direct Poland at all, i just see the happy poles who are young and vibrant coming over to the uk to get and education and maybe a better job and then i see some of the older generation just sitting in their houses drinking vodka and slagging of every russian, geman or whoever for what went on 'back in the day' who would you rather spend your time with, its simple.

Happy people make happy Poland, happy Poland is better for everybody don't you think??

Whats ignorant or defiant about wanting Independance ?

look at the reality of the situation if you did become independent, i mean how much money does scotland get given by the english government again??? :)

No, just don't want to be part of UK.

let me guess, anti-monarchy and a celtic fan at a guess :)

Latest polls show a majority for Independance in Scotland, if the people of Scotland want it they will vote for it in a referendum. If they don't want it, the status quo remains.

i believe that there should be a referendum on the subject, if scotland wants to be independent and the majority agree then i don't see a problem with it.

Life / Poland High school curriculum [48]

I was just tossing it into the wind so to speak, maybe a better curriculum would be to show the students what ways some other successful countries do their studies and their views so that the students will have a better idea of what is out there in this global economy. Japan, poland all have different ideas on education and structure. The US has a tendency not to teach anything outside the box. And I am tired of it.

thats a great idea, there is nothing wrong with showing students, dvd's, websites, journals etc etc about other countries successes in education, in fact i would promote that. It takes away the element of physically moving the pupils from place to place and maybe not liking their experience. With films, dvd's etc, they would be able to get a feel for a different, life, culture and way of teaching from another country without having to live it themselves

Then it would technically become "English Day" so why introduce that when there's already St George's day?

not all scot's and welsh are so ignorant, or defiant about independence, some of them acutally like to be part of the UK, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, there not all anti-uk, some are anti-england yes, thats what you call close quarter rivalry.

Why let the views of a few spoil it for the rest of the UK

Mali you are now close to the top of my list in favorites on PF

a favourites list, don't know if its a good or a bad thing, i have people i like better than others, i think favourites are people you tend to 'favour' as in will always defend or prefer to lean towards their way of thinking.

As i say i have people who i like better than others but i would not call them my favourites.

aybe the career study class should be to take these kids and place them all over the world to see how other countries manage . Some kind of cultural exchange program for all student and not just select ones. That last year in highschoolcould become an education of a life time.

actually mate i think this is a bad idea, the kind of things i want from my career study is, advice on job interview techniques, Building a CV, focusing on my future ideas for a career and general career advice. While it would be nice to send kids here and their its not actually very practical, so you take a child out of its usual sarroundings dump he/she into a completely different culture/way of life/thinking, there could be major trouble, what happens if the child dosen't like or want to be moved or go and isn't to keen on the new culture he/she is introduced to.

I mean really would you want to be the poor boy/girl sent to Saudi Arabia for a week to follow islamic law, yeah great field trip!!!!!. There are, at least for me, more important things for a person of 15 16 to be learning and some of them are the ones i mentioned above.

I'm not sayiing your idea is invalid mate, infact in some cases its a good idea, however i was pretty happy with the french exchange thanks very much then coming back to usual lessons and way of life :)

Love / BLACK GUYS POLISH WOMEN [809]

Listen while i'm not polish, all the polish girls i've known or know have always told me that they would not date a black or muslim guy. I don't know why and i don't ask why, i feel its totally up to them. Its not racist just because you don't like a black man, you might not like guys with blonde hair, its just a feature of somebody.

as everybody seems to be throwing in different names for blacks, of which some are very racist let me bring to the table 'silveries' derived from cockney ryhming slang, 'silvery spoon, black' i'm not going to say the next word as i feel that on a public forum i don't want to racially offend anybody, but i think you get the meaning. It's not that i'm a cockney slang buff or anything its just what the British armed forces would refer to the black africans if they were pissing them off.

Love / Meaning of Friendship (my friends is going back to Poland) [57]

It might sound lame, but it's true.....that sometimes when a door closes, a window opens.
You will have other friends, maybe even of the caliber of this friendship, just be patient.
We have a way of drawing the people that we need into our lives. :)

its not lame at all, its a good point, if you happen to lose your 'best friend' then there is a possibility that you will find another one in the future, so don't give up hope :)

Right, I'm not sure if I understand correctly because you've said him instead of her, and if there is one thing I thought I knew about girls is that most girls need atleast one real good girlfriend..

So that's why I got a little curious, just thought for a minute that you'd be a very unique person then..

Nevermind.

lol, same thing here mate i got confused with the 'him' 'her' thing going on there

Don't eat me now i just write what i know

hhhmmm i don't think eating you would be a good idea, i would end up like jail and everybody would liken me to Hanibal Lecter :) lol plus i'm not sure i'd like a bit of Panienka steak, i'm not sure what it would taste like!!!! :):):):)

Agreed. At 12 kids have a problem to decide what they want for dinner, let alone decide what they will do for a living the next 40 or so years. I'd say even at the age of 16 it's a tad early to make career commitments.

The current system resembles pre-WW2 one. I'm not sure what they were thinking. The 8+4/5 (or 8+2+[3]) seemed to work quite well.

yeah agree totally with that, my goodness what are they doing using pre-WW2 ideas for the modern day student?? something needs to be done here i think

So with the greatest respect to Poles and the Polish system, why do a lot of the 'best' of Poland's students come to England to study on the 'English curriculum' to attain a degree of some sort??

Surely this is something Poland needs to address, part fo the reason people are leaving Poland is because of the educational system, then when they have achieved their degree, some prefer to stay in their new found home and find rewarding careers here in the UK. Thefore Poland is losing some of its best Brains.

So a question to Poles and maybe non-poles, what can be done about this??

UK, Ireland / UK Poles attack Daily Mail 'bias' [33]

The Federation of Poles in Great Britain has "reluctantly" filed a complaint to the Press Complaints Commission accusing the Daily Mail of defaming Polish residents in the UK.

sorry but this is just one f those situations where the 'polish victim' stance is taken, everybody hates, poland, polish people and the polish culture. uuuummmm no Poland and Polish people your just over defensive and paranoid, this is a prime example of that.

Yes there are a few idiots in the UK who will attack polish people for being in the country, yes there are people who will write slander about the Poles in the UK. COME ON POLAK'S get a spine, water of a ducks back for heavens sake!!!!. Imagine if you had the sort of bad press that we 'UK' got. I think you'de all be swinging from ropes by now wouldn't you, lol.

Life / How do Polish people view themselves? [92]

my Polish friends talking about being Polish and the country itself (I seem to read this over here as well), it seems like they regard themselves as being somewhat superior or at least better than other cultures and countries.

i have the same experiences, however on the otherside of the penny, they also say that we, the British, talk about the rest of the world like everyone is below us.

My Polish friends call it 'British Arrogance' for example when i tell them how much i like england and how England provides a good place fo people to come and get educated they say that i'm being arrogant and thats not true at all. then five minutes later i here them talking about the muslims and russians like their apes compared to the Polish, how confusing!!

thnx

well that certainly does make it look a little better, the website was a bit misleading i think. thanks for the link. i still think having to make big choices from primary to seconday school is a bit too soon for both parent and 11-12 year old children.

Life / Poland High school curriculum [48]

wow having had a look at some of those websites, i think there is one simple problem with the polish school curriculum, its OVERCOMPLICATED. I mean really, there are five different types of secondary school that you can attend, what 11 or 12 year old in the 'WORLD' is going to know what subjects they are going to want to do???

ANother point is that peoples skills sometimes don't develop until they are into their 14 or 15th year of their lives. This is wh i beleive that you should have a 'set' secondary highschool 'NATIONAL' curriculum rather than having these five options. It baffles me how any 11 or 12 can make such decisions and even their parents, yes they know there kids but they aren't developed yet, you don't know whether they are going to be a maths specialist or maybe a historian surely. To me its total maddness.

Ok my second point, i may be wrong but it seems that Polish children/Adults go to school until they are 19!!!!!! Where is the choice in this???? is it compulsary or what?? when i finish school at 16 i get the choice whether or not i want to continue onto the college/university path. I certainly don't have to slog it out unitil i'm 19!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I mean maybe i'm totally wrong here but this just seems a farsicle system where children and their families are firstly, made to make decisions too early about the future they will lead. Secondly they are committed to school until 19, you should have a choice at 16, otherwise your wasting another 3 years of your working life doing something you don't want to do.

i disagree today but i hope i will agree someday

well your learning so it will take time :)

ow right, lol, i thought you meant your friend was a male, not that i thougt he was your future husband etc. I think Arien thought the same as me, that your best friend was a man as you said 'him' :) never mind its just that tired thing again:)

that sounds really confusing, i would have a job just to work out your academic system after what you've just said. i think you should learn all the important subjects all the way through school and then specialise when you get to college or university, thats how its done here and it works pretty well.

we know everything and nothing

lol i love that, i always say to people, 'i know a lot about not very much' :) good one Panienka
