News / Should we change the rules to let Poles join the British Army? [119]

Good point free spirit, circumstances dictate responses and we can't pick and choose when we want foreigners into our army and out of it. The Poles did a sterling job in our Spitfires against the Luftwaffe and haven't received sufficient recognition in some circles. Like Tornado, I'd like to see closer cooperation between GROM and the SAS. This is the way to start a kick-*** relationship

Exactly, the British SAS trained the Aussie equivalent to be the brave and feared soldiers they are today. God, I sound like a British prude already. Seriously tho, it's more manageable in the way u present it Tornado, cooperation without excessive regulation and binding commitments. Serving together increases understanding and needs to happen on a larger scale b4 changing the admission criteria.

It's almost unworkable at one level to have a EDF. Too many wires would get crossed. The added negative factor would be that a bigger power presents a bigger target for attack. America, for one, would grow suspicious of an increasingly potent Europe and Russia would have to up the rhetoric and take action so as not to lag behind. The Euro is a threat to the dollar and further Europeanisation will only serve to antagonise the big two. So be it I hear you say.

I don't think Poles need to join the British army but we could benefit from their expertise, they are respected soldiers.

Food / Chocolate flavored vodka [11]

Almost a decade ago now, there was a vodka bar in Little Belmont Street in Aberdeen, Scotland. It had all manner of vodkas, from red kola vodka (yummy) to mars bar vodka (hmm). I think it had around 30 types all in. Pricey as hell, especially if I compare it to Polish prices, but being young and frivolous at the time, what did I care? For any Aberdonians here, they'll remember the confusing way to the toilet. There was a mural cast against the wall and the door was hard to spot. I knew a few people who got lost trying to find the toilets, hehehe, and that was b4 drinking any vodka

I see ur point clearly Tornado. It would lay open a precedent that we may not wish to honour in the future. We have opened our doors by admitting foreign nationals into our domestic police force, but the army is a different kettle of fish entirely. However, in the collective spirit of 'Europeanisation', in the absence of a specially deployed European Defence Force (EDF), it may create the impetus necessary to move things along in that direction. If it were regulated correctly, with linguistic and various fitness tests, then it could become a reality but I don't think we need to go down that road too hastily.

UK, Ireland / Gang attack Polish man with knife [87]

It furthers the antagonism that is going to get more and more people attacked, or even killed. We have seen this from history, IRA VS UDF, Israel Vs Hamas/Hezbollah etc (present), there is no need to inflame the situation anymore.

The flip side is that we should be grateful that more and more cases aren't being reported. Yes, it would convey a truer picture were they to be but lessening international hostility should be of greater concern

Well said!! They sometimes steal or attack out of compulsion rather than anything else. Unfortunately, hatred knows no boundaries and we are all at risk

There are problems in those areas Fil1, that's what I'm saying. If Poles come and live in those areas, they must face the consequences. I'm left-wing here tho, it's not their fault they are poor sometimes but the same can be said for poor Scots.

Again, where is ur proof? There haven't been that many attacks overall. Poles live in dangerous areas where attacks are very common. ANYBODY can be attacked there

Most Brits just want any immigrant group to make the best contribution they can. I have to say that, in recent years, I haven't heard of that many attacks. There are so many dodgy areas in British cities, where many Poles live. I'd be looking over my shoulder in those areas. I've heard from many folks back home that they love the shops that the Poles have brought. Bigos and gołąbki are the kinds of foods that many Scots love.

Prevailing attitudes Fil1, I think not. U r a friendly member on PF so I'm gonna try and argue rationally, without emotion. Noimmigration has been slated by almost every Scottish member on this forum, his views don't broadly represent our sentiments at all.

Proof beyond reasonable doubt is high Fil1. There is no proof that it was a racially motivated attack although there is some level of probability that it was.

Let's not make this an international duel as it serves no purpose in my eyes.

Where's ur PROOF Fil1? That which would stand up in a court of law.

Look at the stats Greg, Brits attack Brits all the time. Where is the proof beyond reasonable doubt that they attacked him because he was Polish?

Torquay for sure. Flowery Twats, now there's a cracking anagram.

The best ever was 'I'm an evil Tory bigot' for Virginia Bottomley, and she was

SPOT ON matey!! 'Kao' in Japanese and the Chinese have sth similar from Confucianism. It's an instilled doctrine from a young age. I did some conversation classes on it in my time in Hiroshima and it's not overstated. Quite amazing what I saw.

U've seen nothing yet Tornado2007, I saw Japanese men touching young girls IN FULL VIEW and in broad daylight on trains. The looks I got when I told a dirty old lech (yes, not Lech the beer but a lecherous old goat) to keep his hands off were staggering. I asked my Japanese friends why that was and they said I shouldn't have done that. Puzzled, I asked why not. They said that Japanese girls will never scream on a train as they will be rejected by their fellow Japanese, it's culturally forbidden to break the 'wa' or harmony.

Needless to say, I was shocked. I later learned that there is a word called 'chikan' in Japanese which is specifically a train pervert. That's harmony taken to extremes, basic morality teaches u not to touch schoolgirls when u r 3 times their age. Yes, they are cute but that's no excuse.
