Love / Polish mail order brides? [89]

I used to work with a Ukranian one... I have to take my hat off to her - she was very canny.

UK, Ireland / Teenagers attack a Polish deli in Trowbridge, UK [27]

I think that the saddest thing is that I grew up near Trowbridge, and while there were always a couple of "village idiots" it was generally a bit of a chilled out kind of place.

Food / I can't handle it anymore...I'm cooking curry... [34]

A good curry is cheap to make - you can make a massive batch and freeze it, and then just reheat the portions. Plus, you can make it as healthy, with lots of fresh veg.

Life / Bad opinion about Polish people - rumour or the truth? [90]

In reality, tourists look like tourists and are usually easier targets for thieves. :)

Very true, but I'd also say that pubs near offices that attract the Thursday / Friday night post-work crowds are also rich pickings. You see a big pile of coats and bags in a corner, as everyone goes off to chat and mingle.

Life / Bad opinion about Polish people - rumour or the truth? [90]

Maybe this thread should be renamed to: I Had my (fill in the blank) Stolen in (fill in the blank)

A couple of years ago, I visited several cities across the world that had a bit of a reputation for crime (not going to name them... don't want to get sucked into offending anyone here) in a 6 month period. During that time, I had my credit cards stolen from my handbag and a couple of weeks later had my handbag stolen - a gorgeous Mulberry one, a b'day present from my husband :( . Where? Both instances in quiet wine bars just a few blocks from home....

Life / Bad opinion about Polish people - rumour or the truth? [90]

Traveler:
I lived in Germany for 5 yrs. and was told that Polish are thieves

Germans said that?

I also heard that when I was living in Germany, however what I bear in mind is that the German telling me this was a totally narrow-minded tosser who had never left his village in 60 years, let alone Schlweswig-Holstein.

Love / Why Polish girls are awesome? [141]

it is very common actually

Ahh... there are two meanings of the word common. One means popular, but I was thinking of the other meaning, so I was basically sticking up for the Kasias (including you) if you see what I mean.... <digging a hole> :)

UK, Ireland / Bulgaria Named Cheapest Holiday Destination in Europe (for British) [10]

Hmmm... I spend all day working with the radio on, and it seems like every 5 mins, there's an advert urging us punters to invest in property there. I'd be put off on that basis alone, as I imagine that it would be too much like the holiday on the costa blanca that I had with the inlaws a couple of years ago... every conversation that I overheard in bars and cafes was about property and how many concrete boxes nowhere near the sea other folk owned <yawn>

No - not common at all... it's just that the name makes me think of porridge:

I am sure that there are lots of lovely Kaisas out there, but I'm not keen on the name myself... sounds too much like a wholefood :)

Weatherspoons in Nottingham was the only place that sold it. Great beer.

Isn't there a Wetherspoons in Preston or Blackpool? Or don't you live there anymore?

Wetherspoons gets a bad press - fair enough, I've been in a few that are full of wankers spoiling for a fight, but there are still a couple of good ones near where I live. They all seem to have a good range of Polish beers (at least three, last time I looked).....AND they've started selling zubrowka and apple juice. :P

there are a few countries that could learn from our ladies fashion sense :)

Indeedy - you can't beat British girls for wearing their quirky statements with a large dollop of humour :))

A night out ahead of me.

Have a good one!! I'm staying in tonight on account of too much Belgian beer and chivas regal last night X(

Travel / Central / Eastern Europe Travel Plans 08 [6]

Vilnuis and Warsaw aren't particularly nice.

I disagree - Warsaw might not be as classically pretty as Krakow for instance, however I love it as it feels real. There are plenty of things to see and do, and a great nightlife too.

All the Polish girls I have met in Sydney were so cool, nice and clever. You have a huge difference between English girls and you.

<yawn> here we go again....

I'm just off to eat crisps, smoke fags, drink lager (and burp out loud) and polish me clown pendant.....

Life / Wearing Amber in Poland - a yay or a nay? [4]

Hi there (sorry I've not been around much - been in Spain the last couple of weeks).

This is going to sound like a silly question, but here goes.... I'm meeting some Polish people this afternoon (work related). I've got some gorgeous amber beads that I got last time I was in Warsaw, and I'm thinking of wearing them - but will I run the risk of looking like a tourist?

Food / Polish hot toddy? [9]

I don't think that whisky is particularly popular in Poland... shame because Poles are really missing out - curling up on the sofa and watching a film on tv with a hot toddy is one of the best bits about having a cold.

I sometimes grate fresh ginger into mine :P
