Well, this is what I plan on doing. I'll be leaving for Poland May 20th, and leaving Poland Sept. 1. About 101 days? THe way I'm understanding this is that I would spend say about 45 days in Poland then go to the Ukraine (which is very close to where I'll be in PL) for about 11 days, and then spend the rest of the 45 days in Poland. :)

Honestly, if this so called recession hits the U.S., that is if its hasn't occurred already (I really hope it doesn't, atleast for the time being). The dollars going to keep on falling. OPEC is already considering changing the value of oil from American dollars to Euro's; now whether that will actually happen, who knows.

Automatics are expensive; and expensive to fix if they break down. However, I've seen automatics in Poland, although very few, compared to manuals.

I use Heyah. It works for me in Poland, and while I'm in the U.S. I received sms messages on it.

I guess it all depends on the type of gun, regular pistols and handguns could be the easiest to register, etc. However shotguns and the like can be harder, it could also depend on the caliber of the gun, etc. I remember someone mentioning to me about a friend of his who was legally able to bring a gun, a pistol of some sort, in Poland from the U.S. Best bet is to ask to local police.

However, I reckon gun control is a lot more stricter in Poland than in the U.S (However, this could change). I guess it's interesting you brought this subject up, considering there was another deadly shooting in the U.S at a university campus in Chicago. RIP

I wouldn't give up. I would search around on the internet, find some university's in PL that specialize in this area, and see we what info they can offer you. Research your field, and see how many companies you can come up with, and send them your resume, or ask them for internships. Are you done with school? Bachelor's? Master's?

I've traveled by rail in Poland alone and overnight. I did not feel it to be dangerous. However, I would still recommend traveling with someone else versus alone. I've also been on the subway in new york city; Now that is a scare!

As far as I know, you do need to be fluent in Polish. But I guess it also depends on the school. I'm thinking of doing my master's in either the U.K. or Poland.

CASA is a Spanish aircraft company. Aircraft can fail for many reasons, not just equipment failure. Also, a Boeing 777 crash landed in Heathrow a week or so ago, an American built aircraft just a few years old, and one of the most technologically advanced passenger airliners in the world. According to the pilot, the engines just simply and suddenly failed, at a very critical moment of the flight.

The thing that I'm basically wondering about is what passport to use prior to entering the U.K. (if it will even matter). However, I will have both on me just in case. But, I'm guessing my best bet will be to ask the U.K. consulate in the city.

Good luck though; I'm planning on doing the same thing, although I'll be done with school sooner. Also, I'm considering the rest of Europe as well, not just Poland. But 4 years is quite a bit, a lot of factors can change.

I just took a look on a website from the U.K. that deals with visas and work permits. Says I don't need a visa, although, I already knew that. I'm still not totally sure whether a work permit will be required for a 3 month stay.
