Life / Poland: The Things That Make Foreigners Lift a Brow [123]

sliwowica - and do you know the delicious soup called “czarnina” (black soup)? It is basicly some real blood from a duck and plums ;D

Here what wikipedia say on it:

Czernina (from the Polish word czarny - black; sometimes also Czarnina or Czarna polewka) is a Polish soup made of duck's blood and clear poultry broth. In English it is referred to as Duck Blood Soup.

Generally the sweet and sour taste of the soup comes from the addition of sugar and vinegar. However, there are hundreds of recipes popular in different parts of Poland and Lithuania. Among the ingredients used are plum or pear syrup, dried pears, plums or cherries, apple vinegar and honey. Like most Polish soups, czernina is usually served with fine noodles, macaroni or boiled potatoes.

Until the 19th century czernina was also a symbol in Polish culture. It was served to young men applying for the hand of their beloved ones after the parents rejected their proposal. It is a plot element in Pan Tadeusz, a famous Polish poem by Adam Mickiewicz.

It is also be a regional dish in Kaszuby and Poznan'.

Czernina may not be for everyone, however those willing to give it a try often find it to be hearty and satisfying.

Language / Help!! I've got to teach year 7 Polish numbers. [13]

So, the Polish numbers from one to ten are there:

I don’t really think it will appeal to 11-13 years old kids. It’s quite boring, nothing really happens but at least it’s short.

I didn’t do any pauses in it but you can always stop the film if you would like them to repeat.

Well I’ll restrain from complaining about my own work. It is what it is.

Your suggestion about making it like the sesame street is really good. Only that I cannot. Because of certain shortages on time, money and the amount of genius needed for such a production.

My son (he’s 19) is going to spend a year in Poland/Kraków doing his civil service there. I never taught him any Polish (his Mom is German) and never persuaded him into feeling Polish in any way. It is his own idea to go to Poland and to learn Polish. I’m happy about it and so I try to help him to learn Polish. This is why I do this Polish Lessons courses.

Please write me if you could use the clip in any way.

Language / Help!! I've got to teach year 7 Polish numbers. [13]

ok, I’m going to start to work on it, but I would find it even more fun if you would tell me how your vision of this video would be - do you want to have the numbers from 1 to 10 or all of them?

Should there be some examples of how they go along with names or just numbers?
Should I repeat the numbers a few times so that the video would become a sort of drill quality, meaning that somebody watching it would be supposed to learn the numbers alongside.

Maybe you have some examples you would like to have in this video - just tell me ;D

Language / Help!! I've got to teach year 7 Polish numbers. [13]

I could do a short video introducing Polish numbers using basically a voice and some simple graphics. Would it help?

Currently I work on an simple visualization of the Polish Alphabet - I could easily do it with numbers too.

This is how it looks like with the letters:
