Life / Celebrating Christmas in Poland [52]

I guess long ago but when did WKD go out of commission? You know, whisky and Irn-Bru. What a combo!!

Kilts are a sign of our heritage, golden!! Any Scot that gets ruffled by petty hacks needs a dose of Scottishness, a fresh infusion.

Well done, wear it with pride man. Even more so if it's your own tartan.

I'm a Smith so off to a bad start :(

Food / Polish cakes that hit the spot - Miodownik [40]

I'm just munching on something called Miodownik in Polish. It's absolutely delicious. Poland is awash with superb cakes and sponges.

Anybody care to share their favourites?

Irn Bru has to be bought back home. They claim that Oranżada is the same here but it falls way short IMHO. No substitute.

Doda advertised it here. I missed the connection but there we go.

Passing sth off is a risky business but if needs must, hehehe

News / Polish culture would collapse if Ministry of Culture would be abolished? [14]

It's the people that feel the culture. Besides, Poland has many sub-cultures. For a relatively homogeneous country, a lot of regional identity and specific traditions are in evidence.

Bureaucrats have messed up education, don't let them mess up culture too.

You spell it doddle? I spell it dawdle but there is variation. Yeah, whisky tends to be more of a New Year's gift.

Something traditionally Scottish but not tablet. In Poland, they have krówki which taste virtually the same. Tablet is made by some quality companies in Scotland but krówki are nothing special here in Poland.

How about a big, ****-off haggis? Hardly the best loin stirrer of a food but I think they'd like it.

Work / Living on the certain income in Poland [30]

Thanks blueenigma.

Bolek, I don't need to do my homework to know that I pay 750PLN all in for a central place, I've been doing so for 4 years.

You, my friend, have got it wrong. If I seem to be an expert on everything, then how can it be that I know nothing? Just think about it

Being stoned to death, dunno if they use boulders but I don't think you'd remember much ;)

Aha, you meant stoooooned Cypress Hill style, cool

Whisky would be very welcome. The kilt would be the one thing that they'd really go for. From our Highlander traditions.

You read that from a poster? ;)

Don't trust it!! Nah, just kidding, that sounds like sound advice from a cultured man, Cardno. Wrocław can be relied upon to speak the truth.

Touch his sister and all hell will break loose. That lot know how to protect their own, they will use strong means to do so.

Hummel Hummel, they promote brand names on the streets? How much were they paid for that? ;)

Moin Moin sounds like some French wine imported in Germany.

News / FORWARD POLAND -- new polticial party [6]

True enough lesser. There are those who have a distorted perspective of what really goes on in the political process, politicians included, lol.

How often have we seen political parties abandon(ing) their chosen paths as laid down in their manifesto? At least with radicals there tends to be a cementing of positions more.

This party may have Roman Giertych, better avoided

Yeah, it's very much a southern thing. Hamburgers wouldn't use it.

Yes, minimal drinking is a relative concept ;)

The Highlanders like hearty feasts and for you to get stuck in. Go with the flow on that one.

Their spirit is their strength. Their spirits even stronger ;)

Yeah, they will be fine with that

Serwus was used by a Polish guy here who worked in Austria for a while. He used it to greet his follow Poles.

Carp is very....specific. Nice way of putting it, Switezianka.

Just remember what the obvious anagram of carp is...:)

Highlanders drink hard and will not ask you to stand on ceremony. After a few hours with them, you won't be able to stand anyway, LOL

Polish husbands may be slightly more immune to their whimsical behaviour but it just depends.

Many would make golden wives, you just have to tame them before they tame you :)

Work / Little Help finding out right to leave 1 yr contract. [15]

True enough, a sound working knowledge of Polish really helps me here.

There are certain topics that only native speakers should teach, like articles. No Polish teacher I've met has convinced me that they understand them well enough to teach them with precision.

Life / What to wear for winter in Poland [51]

I don't think I'll be asking my fiancee to model them for me. I have such a horrible image of stinky old biddies donning them in the morning, not to be removed for a few days :(
