UK, Ireland / National Holiday To Celebrate Britishness Could Be On It's Way [83]

There will be celebrations as they do in Aussie land and the U.S. There will be festivals and in my town, I would bet £100 on there being a big parade through the streets. It's been mentioned that there will fireworks too. You will see flags raised throughout Britain. It's been likened to the U.S' 4th July celebrations.

UK, Ireland / Best county in UK and why ? [45]

Lancashire is the best county to live in. There are many small villages where you would feel comfortable walking alone at night without the need to fear being attacked. Where you can bring up your children safely. I live in Kirkham and it is no urban area. People have alot of pride in these small villages. People, regardless of whether you know them or not, smile and say good morning/evening as you walk down the streets. There are a few villages like this in Lancashire. It's a good old fashioned English friendly village, HOWEVER they're less tolerant of non-whites compared to the South. So if you're black these villages perhaps aren't the best places to come to. Even in the pub during a football match you get people shouting "YOU BLACK B......" and nothing is said.

UK, Ireland / National Holiday To Celebrate Britishness Could Be On It's Way [83]

I don't feel uncomfortable with speaking of my pride of being English. Just read my other posts in other threads. I'm 100% proud to be English BUT at the same time I am just as equally proud to be BRITISH. I live in a small village in the North-West too with a 100% white community, 98% English community, 2% being Scottish. I'm equally proud to be English AND British. There are Scots that are proud to be Scottish AND British.

Do you pronounce the word British as Bri-ish, Arise Sankt Georg?

No I pronounce the "T" I think it's about the only word I pronounce the "T" in the middle of the word.

Foo'ball
Some'
ni's

'British' sounds old fashioned to me. It also allies us (the English) with people who seem to want to have nothing to do with us (the Celtic fringe). I think its best we go it alone, especially as we are in the EU.

Yeh but had it not been for BRITAIN we would probably have caved in to the Germans. We wouldn't have survived the Battle of Britain. When Britain unites (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland) then we are a force to contend with. The word "British" and "Britain" are powerful words. I am just as much proud to be British as I am English.

UK, Ireland / National Holiday To Celebrate Britishness Could Be On It's Way [83]

I'm all for it. I'll definately take part in it. We should really have St. George's day off as a National holiday though. We have parades in the streets in my town on St George's day to celebrate being English if they fall on the weekends, like a few a years ago and they're awesome. But St. George's day falls on a Wednesday so the parties and buffets and free beer (hopefully haha) will be inside the pubs. Now we'll have a "British" one! Awesome. This is great news to me. Kids swearing oath to the Queen? Great idea! Muslims won't be too keen on that idea though.

National holiday to celebrate Britishness could be on it's way
Annual occasion to celebrate Britishness on cards

A national holiday to celebrate the glories of Britishness moved a step closer yesterday.

A report commissioned by Gordon Brown called for an extra day off from 2012, which would coincide with the Olympics and the 60th anniversary of the Queen's reign.

The holiday would mirror Australia Day, which features citizenship ceremonies, firework displays and celebration of their flag.

UK, Ireland / Fao Poles living in the UK [107]

In answer to your question, I have been residing in the UK for just over four years, and plan to remain here for the rest of my life.

Brilliant. I'm happy for you. Good luck with life in Britain and your life with your wife.

And the reason for this?.

Saying that though have you seen the Geordie women? Eeek. They act, talk and look like men. On one occasion I went to Newcastle, Whitley Bay I was sitting on a stool in a bar and this Geordie woman sat on my knee and said "canna fart on yer knee like?" Dirty cow and she started picking at my chips too lol!

that is a stupid comment!!! no ones saying you have

Yours was a ******* stupid comment. My dad and my uncle were BRITISH. You lumped the BRITISH in ONE.

You mean they did tours there, probably sitting in an OP taking car reg's

Light Infantry 2nd Batallion is a fighting unit. The British armed forces were in Northern Ireland and they fought the IRA. My dad killed members of the IRA and also been shot at in Northern Ireland... I used to live in Northern Ireland myself. They fought in the LI from the 70s through to the early 90s.

I agree that we have problems with the services in this country because of the large numbers immigrating here - but I think you should look at the economic benefits from EU members

I said I'm not against immigration for filling jobs that Brits can't or won't do. If we need recruits then we should look to our fellow European countries.

The Spanish NEED Brits. They're not over-populated. The British that have emigrated to Spain have opened up their own businesses and have CREATED jobs for the Spanish people. The Aussies are the same. They're crying out for British people. They need to fill gaps in the working industries. I don't know too much about the French.

Not really when you think about .....Its ok for british to go to any other contry occupie rape, kill etc

That statement is remarkably stupid. Not even worth the bother

so its ok for your government to take all thier tax's but not ok for them to use the services they paid for...

The Polish that are paying the taxes are very welcome to use these services but still... these services are being STRAINED.

There is always a LIMIT.

..hmmm.... 1+1=2 or 1000+1000=2000 which means it is even more benefits to this country ..do the math.

Does it benefit our National Health Services, our housing property, our public services? Do you honestly think that there is no limit to immigration? Do you think that no matter the quantity we let in that we will cope? By 2050 as things are going the country's population will DOUBLE. Do you think we'll STILL cope?

.... Think about it

is that mean: If immigration wouldn't be open to non-eu emigrants you wouldn't be as "happy" as you are right now about Poles?

If immigration stopped outside the Eu then I would be in favour of a stop elsewhere. I would NOT be against immigration for Europeans to fill jobs that Brits WON'T do. I believe in an immigration system of "let only those in to do the jobs that Brits can't fill or won't do." Immigration can be a benefit to the country and the people but not MASS immigration. It puts a strain on housing property, the NHS, public services etc. But if the non-eu citizens are still flocking in then come on Poles, you come too!

I love Polish but I love my country more.

There havent actually been that many deaths on the mainland.

Why? Because they're terrorists. The bomb that went off in Manchester injured 200 people and some were seriously injured. They also killed 9 people in a shopping area in Belfast. They killed 21 people at a pub in Birmingham. What about the Omagh bombings that killed 28? They're terrorists and nothing else.

As I said, I welcome Poles with open arms. If immigration is open to non-eu migrants then I would LOVE the Eastern Europeans to come here. In Asian dominated areas we're now starting to see white faces and that's thanks to the likes of Poles, Czechs, Estonians etc. They're infiltrating muslim-bound areas and I'm loving it!

You will come across people that may give you the impression that you're not welcome but those are the idiots. I've met some Polish that were arrogant and had the "I'm only here for the money" attitude but the majority were decent people that are willing to integrate and even LEARN our language, which gains alot of respect! I had a football match yesterday in Preston and half the team were Polish! I'd rather have Polish catholics/secularists in this country than muslims and Africans any day. Those that are moaning about the Polish and the benefits I would assume is the media. The media stirs trouble and likes to brainwash people. But again that's only the minority. I, myself, have Eastern European ancestry that moved here during the 30s/40s but which country I don't know. I don't know too much about my ancestors

P.s Another thing, my mum wanted a new bathroom fitted. She rang some English firm and they were charging £300 to fit a bath! She saw a Pole advertisement so she rang him and he charged just £500 to do the WHOLE bathroom. The Polish guy goes to work during the day and after he finishes work he goes round to my parents house and fits the bathroom. My parents say he's "a really lovely guy." My parents feed him meals. He spends AGES fitting the bathroom on his own everynight after work. Not only are the Polish hard working but they're CHEAPER.

That's the consequence of opening the borders for all to enter. The liberal do-gooders bend over backwards to prevent offence to the foreigners. I, however, have not lost my identity. I will forever be English/British and proud of it. Most Poles I've come across have seen it in me. They know. There is no political correctness inside of me. I say how I feel. They respect my opinions. Some would call me racist for criticising government policies but the fact is that word is getting so old that I just shrug it off. I'm not one to ramble on about politics though. I tend to talk football and women!

Why be ashamed of your flag? It's just a bit of coloured material.
Why be proud of it too? Again, it's just a bit of coloured material.

Just a bit of coloured material? Not to the people that care about their country. It's a symbol of our country and for everything that it stands for. Which is exactly why you will be locked up in the UK for flag burning.

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

I've met some Poles that were arseholes but I've met more decent ones than bad. I've been to football matches with some Poles. Me, my mate and 3 Poles came with us to an England Euro 2008 qualifying game against Andorra at Old Trafford. I was shocked to find that 2 of them already had an England shirt, the training one and they wore it..!

However I knew guy named Karol B. who was a weird one. When he 1st came he was very anti-English it seemed. He seemed to be very racist and quite patriotic to Poland. As months went by his attitude changed and, I swear on my mother's life I'm not bulshitting, he became anti-Polish. He had a dislike for his own people and whenever someone spoke to him in Polish he replied "I don't understand" and made them speak to him in English. When Poland played Germany in the World Cup in 2006 he wore a GERMANY shirt to **** people off. All the Poles disliked him.

I know I'm going on but he was weird but funny lol.

and as for giving them back there independance yea it should be given back it should never have been taken away..!

Even though the majority of the people of Northern Ireland want to remain part of the UK? I'm sure we'd have had a much bigger terrorist organisation to contend with had we given Northern Ireland back.

im not doubting that but dont you think the world has to wake up and ask its self why the f&ck are there terrorists and who's provoking them?

What would have been the solution to IRA terrorism? Would it be to hand Northern Ireland their Independence? Problem sorted. However we would have had a new breed. Protestants who wanted to remain part of the UK...! A no-win situation. Independence is no justification for terrorism.
