UK, Ireland / Irish Thoughts on Britain and the British and vice versa [53]

omg, ireland needed BASIC infrastructure first! e didnt even have that! the 70's were spent making these! then we moved the rest. for goodness its an a-z process. it has to start from small beginings.

Looks like Estonians are too stupid to understand that, so they can have +13% GDP growth...

that is the most flipant and unfounded comment i have heard said in earnest ever.

what a load of beeswax

...

The irish governments over the years were on the RECIEVING end of HEAVY EU subsidies for since 1973.

And until late 80's that wasn't making serious improvement.

Greegorz your being a little naive.

Yeah...

idealistic/socialistic utopia? check your specturms. its democratic and the centre right and centre left are the MASSIVE majority.

Most of people in "old" Europe don't even support current EU, not to mention deeper integration, in "new" small majority is for, just because we got money from EU.

Life / Polish toughness contests [9]

Well, in Germany one homo asked the other one to kill and eat him and he did that, so everything is possible, but It's definately not normal here that people chop off others' hands.

Being part of the EU makes a a hell of a difference. Nationalism becomes rather pointless over time when you have no borders and the laws come from the same place.

Sorry but this is idealistic/socialistic utopia, If more of "European identification" is imposed on people, It will only backfire in the future with stronger nationalism. The same with deeper integration.

The EU has done Ireland very very nicely

Without reforms done by Irish governments they would look today at best like Portugal.

Real Estate / Becoming a Polish landlord. [6]

So there is a limit on what people are allowed to buy or just on what foreigners are allowed to buy?

I'm not sure about details, but there are some limits for foreigners - in case of farming land and forests they can't buy them until 2016.

Work / What is the ZUS rate? [3]

Can anyone tell me what the ZUS rate is?

For self employed/company owners It's something like 750 PLN a month (something like 200-300 for first 2 or 3 years, but I think It's only for young people). It's going to be lower, but not much.

Also, a self emplyed person, do they have to make a return monthly or can they not do it quarterly?

Monthly I think.

History / Katyn- forgiven and forgotten? [111]

your point is?

My point is your "backing the wrong side" thingy, according to this logic Germans can blame Poles for fighting on the Brtish side during WW2.

Travel / Places to visit Poland for the New Year? [30]

I was there the first time when I was 7. :)

There's a zoo in Wroclaw, there's one in each of these places except Zakopane and maybe Torun, but the one in Wroclaw is the larget.

History / Katyn- forgiven and forgotten? [111]

Perhaps not...but countries collective memories........are rather long.....

Frank, If you didn't notice in 1795-1918 Poland was occupied by Russia, Austria-Hungary and Prussia/Germany, Poles had full rights to fight against these states.

Life / how do Poles view Lutheranism ? [5]

It was surprising to learn that there really are Lutherans in Poland.

There's a few hundred thousand Protestants in Poland, some are of German orgin, some aren't...

Travel / Places to visit Poland for the New Year? [30]

When you are in Tri-city, you may go Hel (one l) by a ferry or a fast boat, near Kaków check Wieliczka If you haven't seen that yet. And If I were you, I would reduce the number of places to visit.
