Our Forgotten Allies
7 January 2004

By Ralph Peters

The decisive turning point in the West's long struggle against Islamic conquerors came on the afternoon of Sept. 12, 1683, during the last Turkish siege of Vienna. Severely outnumbered Polish hussars-the finest cavalry Europe ever produced-charged into the massed Ottoman ranks with lowered lances and a wild battle cry.

Funny how the author somehow fails to mention that by far the largest recipient of US aid is Israel.

Yeah because without our aid the Israelis would be slaughtered but I seriously doubt you would care about that.

Why would you say a thing like that?

Yeah because without our aid the Israelis would be slaughtered

Amusing thing is Arabs initially didnt want to slaughter them, expulsion is the word here also no without your help they wouldnt be slaughtered since they're devoting 1/3 of their considerable GDP to develop and upkeep their military, they also steal technologies from you :))))

Only because it seems like you are trying to provoke Sokrates. If that isn't the case, my apologies. There's a good reason we give aid to Israel. It's because they are under constant threat. Their survival is at stake. This is why the US gives them support.

Riiiight. History has always been on their side and they have nothing to fear from anyone.

There's a good reason we give aid to Israel.

What is this reason? What kind of support has Israel ever offered you? How did America benefited from the alliance?

History has always been on their side and they have nothing to fear from anyone.

They took the lands of the locals based on the book they wrote and you say history is on their side? Nevermind that they're a nation of several milion universally hated by hundreds of milions of Arabs around them and Arabs who slowly go nuclear and breed like rabbits while Israels Jewish population shrinks and they're not threatened?

Many Israelis have dual citizenships. They are Americans too so they contribute to our country by paying taxes and working.

How many Israelis pay taxes in US? A hundred thousand? I doubt even half of that, yet you send 2 bilion dollars annualy, in other words you're paying for an alliance which brings no benefits whatsoever yet costs you money and international flak for supporting a controversial state.

Sorry, are you talking about the Polish relationship with the USA? It certainly sounds like that.

They contribute a lot to the economy. American jews have earning power. We support Israel because we want jews to have a homeland and prominent jews in the US have a lot of influence, own corporations and pay the big bucks to the tax man. They lobby the government.

They don't make our country less secure. We are relatively secure right now and are working on our Arab relations. We are headed in the right direction with the Arabs. I think Obama can reach out and make a lot of progress with them.

They contribute a lot to the economy.

What exactly are Israels contributions to US economy?

American jews have earning power

They're american jews not citizens of israel so where's the connection?

They lobby the government

Why would they need to lobby the goverment if the alliance was beneficial for the US?

They don't make our country less secure

9/11.

I don't often agree with Sok.. but this is 100% correct. This money actually would have been better spent in Poland. At least they have a our backs from time to time.

we = americanos

I guessed that......just can't take anyone seriously who takes themsleves so seriously that they imagine they know what their government thinks or does, and imagines they speak for the whole population.

We learnt this in high school....:0)

Okay, instead

we = american government but not me personally.

I just observe what's going on but I do agree that without the US government Israel would be doomed so I can see why the govt supports them by giving them $$$

I'm going to be cynical here, what do you as a country lose if Israel is doomed?

why the govt supports them by giving them $$$

So you believe that US should support all unstable countries out of the goodness of its heart?

Sokrates, what is it that you personally want to see happen? Do you want all the Israelis except for the American ones (who would flee to the US if this were to happen) get into another war with Arabia with a lot of death and destruction on both sides? 9/11 and Operation Cast Lead were both bad but it could be and can get much worse. Is that what you want to see happen?

Sokrates, what is it that you personally want to see happen?

Personally i'm not an American, i like and admire USA but i dont care that much, now if i was an American i'd demand that my country stops all support of Israel because Israel never contributed anything to my country and costs us a lot.

you want all the Israelis except for the American ones (who would flee to the US if this were to happen) get into another war with Arabia with a lot of death and destruction on both sides?

I dont really care and you shouldnt either, mark you without US Israel might be forced to a lot more peacefull outlook and who knows maybe your lack of support would actully bring peace.

Now the Poles are defending freedom again. Poland has deployed 2,500 of its best soldiers to Iraq.

What a propaganda. :))

It's about subtraction by addition: if Israel didn't exist tomorrow, the majority of Israelis would most probably move to the USA.

I don't know if the majority would. The American Israelis, yes, but I don't know how many are from other parts of the world.

Israel isn't going away anytime soon anyway. It's time for everyone to join their hands and think about ways to get along with each other :) :) :) :)

They contribute a lot to the economy.

Israeli is third only to the US and Canada in terms of number of companies listed on Nasdaq—more than United Kingdom, China, and Germany.

First class zionist propaganda.

I looked. The US has been abused by the zionists for quite some time now.
I'd rather my taxes were spent to feed the inhabitants of the tent cities in the States than buying a new rocket for Moshe.

But no worries here: sooner or later you will wake up. Well... I hope you will.

Cheers,
E_T

Sorry, are you talking about the Polish relationship with the USA? It certainly sounds like that.

Indeed. Poland is the country that receives unconditional aid year by year in billions of $$ even though the Poles occasionally make some faux pas, like stealing the US secrets or trying to kill everybody aboard some US ship.

But hey! sh!t happens, thank God the Americans, lobbied by some shy and quiet group are soooooo forgiving.

like stealing the US secrets or trying to kill everybody aboard some US ship.

Israelis haven't done that to the US. They might not trust us entirely but I doubt the nation trusts anyone all that much.
