Is there anyone out there in Poland or elsewhere that has run across the name Mroz from Piotrowka, Poland (in the woj. Podkarpackie.) That is where my Great Grandmother Katherine lived before she came to the U.S. She also had 2 brothers Peter and John that also came to the U.S. They all came to the North west Indiana And Chicago, Illinois area. I have had friends look in the archives and civil records office, and local curches in Poland but can't find any of their birth records. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also researching: Pikula, Mroz, Machota, Stojak, Wozniak

Have you found her manifest? Know when she came? Have her & her family on census records? If you would provide more information, I can check on ancestry.com & other sites for these records & more. You can email me by going to my profile if you would perfer not to list the information on the net.

Hi Joyce,

My Great grandmother Katarzyna Machota (nee Mroz) and my Grandmother Salomea and great-aunt Pauline all arrived on December 08, 1902 port of departure Breman. I knew my Grandmother and Knew where they all lived and where they are buried. The family history here in the states I know. I can't find any info on them in Poland! I'm having great luck with my Machota and Pikula family names but not with the Mroz name.

Are you sure it is the one in woj. Podarpackie? There are two other locations.

If your sure of the location, try writing to the local parish for Piotrówka.

pow. strzelecki
gmina Jemielnica
kod 47-133

Piotrówka
wieś
480 osób
woj. podkarpackie
pow. krośnieński
gmina Jedlicze

Piotrówka
wieś
410 osób
woj. wielkopolskie
pow. kępiński
gmina Trzcinica

Hope this helps.

In Polish there probably should be a thingy over "o". Mróz.

I am sure that it is the Piotrowka from the woj. Podkarpackie. My Great Grandfather (Frank Machota) that married Katherine Mroz was born in Lubcza (Pilzno Parish) which is closer to the Piotrowka in Podkarpackie. Plus on my Great Uncle Peters death certificate his son listed birth place as "Krosono Area"

Our last name used to be Mroz according to my Grandmother Rosemary. When our relatives crossed over from Poland they changed the last name to Frost. I'll ask my Grandmother the names of the relatives. Its been several generations since the name has been changed.

Hey Polish Paul, my family is from that area. I am a Mróz, Canadian born, but I am a Polish citizen as well (my dad immigrated from Poland to Canada and as such I have dual citizenship). I will take the bit of info you have provided and check into it for you, anything else of course would be helpful (like additional names, dates, etc). The local parish is always a great starting point. Post in if you are still around and I will get back to you as soon as I dig something up, but I reckon that we are related, seems a good bet anyway. Being as how we are related, feel free to send checks or money orders to... HAHA, just joking about (that good Polish sense of humour I have inherited). Take care mate.

regards,

Ray

Hi Ray,

My great Grandmother Katherine Machota (nee Mroz) was born April 12, 1878.
Her brother Piotr was born May 19, 1879.
Her brother Jan was born about 1879.

The ship manifest from when she came to the US in 1902 lists her last residence as Piotrowka. But my Great Grandfather Frank Machota, her husband was from Lubcza. Lubcza is also where their daughter Salomea Machota (my grandmother was born.

My Grandfathers father (Tomasz Pikula) born in Piotrowka on December 21, 1863, his mother was also a Mroz! Her name was Marianna Mroz, and her father was Macieja Mroz.

That is all that I have on my Mroz family.

If you can give me any help that would be great!

Thanks cousin!

Ray,

What village is your family from?

have a great day!
Paul
