Syrena 7 | 73 11 May 2008 / #1Trying to locate where my grandfather was buried in Gorzów is hard work as i just discovered the cemetery was levelled at some stage. He was buried there in 1946. Does anyone have any ideas, i would love to find old pics of it or its location on a map.
Polonius3 993 | 12,357 11 May 2008 / #2Dunno if this is the cemetery your grandfatehr is buried in, but a glimpse of Gorzów cemetery is provided at: miasta.gazeta.pl/gorzow/1,36844,4619053.htmlThis is apparently the scene on All Saints/All Souls Day (1-2 Nov.), when millions visit the final resting places of loved ones and Polish cemteries are ablaze with votive lamps. There is also an old Jewish cetmery in Gorzów.
Softsong 5 | 493 11 May 2008 / #3I cannot see an overturned cemetary at Gorzów listed at the website link below, but you can get an idea of how other cemetaries that suffered a similar fate look nowadays. These listings are old ethnic German village cemetaries from before WWII.I am interested in them as I am half ethnic German, and half Polish.upstreamvistula.org/Cemeteries/Cemeteries_List.php

OP Syrena 7 | 73 17 Jul 2008 / #9Thanks B, my grandfather died a couple of years after WW2 ended - he was in the navy but died a civilian after spending some time in a Gorzow hospital.
