Hello!

My Polish grandmother's maiden name is Oko witch I understand means "eye" in polish.
I can't find much info about this name anywhere. I now we're from Rzeszow, and we have olive complection ...oh and we're really good looking.

Does anyone have any insights on this name? Is it a normal peasant name?

Thanks for any info.

P.S. My grandma was the first polish Mrs. Illinois. I'm serious we're really good looking.

Hi,

I can't really answer your questions about the surname. Seems like an interesting name; it almost has a kind of mystical connotation. One of your ancestors must have been a person of special vision to be named "Eye." One thing is for sure, there are probably a lot of people who if they did not know it was Polish would assume Oko was a Japanese name. I've noticed some Slavic names are like that, especially ones ending in "ko."
