Just by the sound of the name it would be hard to say. It does sound Slavonic.
It may be Polish, Russian, Jewish, Ukrainian, Belorussian, Slovak, Czech (among others)

One suggestion: when researching this last name use a more likely version - Plawski

'Plawsky'

As far as I understood it, it is a Germanized version of a Polish surname: according to some articles I read the Germans tend to change the last "i" in Polish surnames to a "y" for some reason; maybe they found this easier to pronounce, don't know - you never do with Germans anyway :)

If it's polish then it would be "Pławski" or "Puławski"

'Sky' is never Polish. When you see a surname that ends in 'sky', it indicates a slavic name that was converted from cyrillic to latin text. The name, I would guess is most likely of Ukrainian or White Russian origin.

Plawski is very old polish name. Their habitat was in Plawy village. Today this village has name- Plawskie, near Slonim town in Belarus.
