hi, i'm half polish and my last name is Dybczak... anybody know what it means? or is there any website where you can see what all these polish names originally come from and what they mean?

just curious.. would be fun to know.

oh and another question, where can i look for family with the same name?.. i tried google, is there like a main site where i can locate family around the world.. or just in the states..

Dyba means post, pillar or somenone who lies in ambush (dybać). If someone with that nickname fathered a son, fellow-villagers would have dubbed the descendant Dybczak, Dybak or Dybczuk (in the east). Also possible toponmyic nickname for an inmhabitant of Dybów, Dybowo, Dyblin, Dybawka, Dybki, etc.

Dybczak is probnounced DIP-chahk.
