If you are referring to the Josef Baldowski, who arrived on 6/1/1915 aboard the "Graf Waldersee," there is notations about his naturalization on the manifest. You can obtain this record which should list his town of origin. Other records that may have this information would be his death certificate, birth records for children born in the States, church records, & ss application.

Hope this helps.

Hi Gregor,

I'm not finding the 5/18/1913 manifest. Can you supply name of ship, port of arrival & how the name was indexed?

Or send to my email address (found in my profile) & I'll take a look.

Thanks,
Joyce

Gregor, did you eventually get this info?

I found the 1913 arrival; Josef Baldowski, age 20 in 1913, departing from Hamburg, Germany, last residence was Russia. His father's name is Ignac Baldowski of what looks like Wierzchos. or Wielizocw. It is very hard to read the original manifest. They have it in the database transcribed as Wichvis Russia but honestly, when I looked at it, it didn't look like that to me.

Next to his name, stamped and written many years later (in the 1930s it looks like) is this:
February 27 XX3X
108899 2X-42701

He probably did become naturalized or may have at least filed a provisional application for it. In many cases you have to go the county courthouse where that was originally done; do you know where he ended up in the US? I can check the census, where it might state when he arrived and when or if he filed for naturalization.

Greetings Bookratt... and boucoup thanks... for your close and through research of the manifest to get as much as possible from it ,with good interpretations of as much as possible on it,

The only things I can add are , its possible he belonged to a Polish National church in Plymouth Pa.,and my Father has memories of Plains, Pa ,My father being born in 1926 and i have his old and tattered birth certificate. He Remembers my Grandfather working in coal mines somewhere close to there before they moved to new Jersey,so where and when he applied is a mystery,I have written to the Church there in Plymouth ,Pa.( on the birth certificate) and their answer is they have no records ,Thanks for anything you can find,

Gregor

What documentation have you obtained for your gr. grandmother & her family?

Do you have her marriage record? Birth records and/or baptismal records for her children? Death record?

Are these records for his 2nd wife?
