DNA test, me, and finding Patricia Welker

I recently found out through a DNA test at Ancestry.com that I am Polish. I was raised in a Dutch home, so I do have a deep appreciation for foreign cultures. My mother's name in 1952 was Patricia Welker, she was 17 when she gave birth to me in Long Beach, California, although her hometown could be Buffulo , New York. I believe that she was familiar with the Polish community in Long Beach and possibly attended a Polish Catholic Church there. Also, I plan to visit Poland in June, so I am very anxious to find out about everything there is to know about Poland and it's beautiful people.

Hello FrauPretzel,

There are many threads on the forum that should be of interest.

Places to visit, food and recipes, buying property etc.

How can we help you with the Genealogy/family history of your family in Poland ?

How could you find out you were Polish I wonder? The DNA test provides you with haplotype, not with nationality.

Welker appears mostly in German records. (Keep in mind - a foreign name does not always make you a foreign national)

Was this your mother's maiden name ?

Where do you think the Polish connection is ? Is it through your mother's mother ?

I'm afraid we need more information, if we are to help with your family tree.

Most of the people in my matches with 0 differences were from the German partition of Poland.
