I think it's what you throw on the grill that makes it perfect. We all know what they have in OZ....

how about BBQd plantains? (savoury bananas).. wrap them in foil and serve with hot Jamaican sauce.. make a tasty vegetarian treat. Salads are important too.. at least 2 or 3 different types to serve with your choice of meat. What do veggies think about cooking meat and veggie options on the same grill.. acceptable or not? guess it depends how fussy you are about not eating animal fats.

not on really, and its as much about the taste as it is with dripping fat

and has anyone else noticed how the vegetarian food is always the first to go at barbies... whatup with that?

mmm.. I have one veggie friend who wont even go to a BBQ cos of the smell.. but shes very weird anyway. I used to be a veggie but now eat meat and when I was a veggie it didnt bother me as long as the meat wasnt touching the veg stuff, but I know some people are a lot more fussy.. its a dilemma tho isnt it if you have lots of veggie friends a and lots of meat eaters.. do you buy two BBQs or end up grilling veggie burgers in the kitchen? Even tho. I eat meat now I still prefer the veggie food.. so maybe thats the answer BW.. also whenever we order sandwiches for a meeting, Ive noticed the veggie ones seem to go first..they always seem more attractive somehow.

barbies are so cheap nowadays that having 2 is a simple and easy option, even if the scond is just a cheap disposable one. I have 2 - a funky little cauldron pot which is my veggie barbie, and one of those big things that meat eaters can play around with if they want... grilling veggie burgers in the kitchen just aint right ;-)

good option.. it means extra coal and attention tho... makes mental note to ditch vegetarian friends.

sell out :-P

as an attempt at consolidation of the thread, if you were hosting a typical Polish BBQ for friends, what would be your menu?

i haven't, wine and strawberries wouldn't even cross my mind, honest.... or maybe... as the years pass by, more and more friends would opt for wine...

ah well.. each to their own.. strawberries are nice after all that meat and they cleanse the palate.. and wine is just nice any time. only my opinion of course. I would also recommend potato salad and bulghar wheat salad along with more traditional green or tomato salads.. and lots of chilli sauce, mustard, ketchup etc. etc..... must go Im feeling very hungry.

Fisz, have you ever grilled raw pineapple?
Its unbelievably good...and makes an interesting side dish. Peel and core a fresh pineapple, and slice into rings. Mix some sugar with the grated peeling of a lime. Dip pineapple rings in melted butter, then roll in the limed sugar, and grill. OMG it is so good :) Goes really good with jerk chicken. And a margarita.

I haven't but I will try this. I actually just made Jerk Chicken the oither night :) I love that stuff!!

Yeah man..Shrimp on the barbie :) I'm sure you bbq more, but this is the good stuff here.

Lmao we are the best bbq country

No way. I think our Texans will bbq circles around you Aussies :)

Just kiddin, but you can't say you're the best :) It all depends on who's doing the cookin ;)

Can Szaszlyk be made from any meat or just lamb? This is the only way I know. I also use tomato, shallots, bacon and peppers. Does anyone have any other szaszlyk recipes? I've also had a good pork marinade in PL but can't remember the ingredients. Anyone?
