It would be a good idea to use up every leaf. Larger leaves for Polish golabki and the smaller leaves for haggis golabki. Yuuummm :)

Deep fry a load of Polish stuff in batter and down your shots of vodka with Irn Bru chasers.

I've never had deep fried donkey before.... ;)

There is a chance there wil be a lot of vodka involved... :)

I think there was some sausage with donkey in it on the table recently. Who knows what could have happened after the vodka though?

Ideally, I suppose you'd find things that could be either Scottish or Polish with a minimum of differences. Otherwise you could just have alternating courses.

We thought about making it like a buffet style but only putting out a small amount of each thing at a time and keeping the rest warm. Everything is so filling that we ruled out courses because people would be full after a starter, this way they can take what they want.

If we do it as a meal we need to make a set menu.

The idea is to give Polish and Scottish people a taste of the others cuisine. So far there is about 20 people coming. Eek.

potato pancakes: Polish style/ local style.

Along that sort of theme you could go with Black Pudding and Kaszanka...essentially the same dish but done differently.

a HUGE chance. :) A lot of the Polish people that are coming are beer drinkers. There will be vodka though, particularly in my glass. ;)

Kielbasa came to mind this afternoon at work while I was listening to muzak whilst on hold to another company. I don't know how I didn't think of that before. Thanks for adding it. :) Lots of nice ideas now. :)

The lord only knows. :} There is now to be a third cook though, so three of us sharing the task ought to be enough. I hope...

I only hope I have enough time to take pictures too. :)

that is disgrace to golabki, but I don't blame you. We all slip from time to time.

I like that. ;) Actually I might print it out...

MASHROOM SOUCE for golabki!!!!!!!!!!

I've been asking for that too but it seems the popular opinion (my friend and her boyfriend) is tomato. We'll see..

I'll go with that, that's how I like them, but make the sauce a bit on the spicy side.

I am a fan of spicy foods so if it's got to be tomato sauce then it will be spicy indeed. :)

OK, I have a tiny problem. I wonder if anyone knows the answer to this.

Tomorrow I am going to try the golabki with haggis, but should I par-cook the haggis before hand or not? What do you think? I'm thinking I should but interested to see what others think.

Tomorrow I am going to try the golabki with haggis,

How is that going to pan out ?

Are you making the filling for the golabki with haggis ? It's just that they wouldn't really be golabki if you do that but a variation.

Going back to your question, then if the haggis is going to be the filling and then you follow the traditional gobalki recipe , then it should be parboiled I would think. Depends on how long haggis normally takes to be cooked I would think ?

Are you making the filling for the golabki with haggis ?

Yep. It's for the Scottish/Polish night my friend and I are having at the end of the month. szkotja2007 suggested haggis as a filling on the previous page so we thought we might as well try it. :) We know it's not really golabki but there will be the real stuff too. ;)

then it should be parboiled I would think

That's what I was thinking...it might be really dry otherwise.

Yes, I agree. Maybe parboil it and add a little bit of sauce or liquid to it before wrapping it up in the cabbage leaves ?

I've never had haggis :)

Look at image 1212 on this link.......it made me smile :))
