Does anyone know where would be the best places in Warsaw to buy Sliwowice and the lovely cherry liqueuer I had last time I visited Warsaw? Are the supermarkets any good? I know MarcPol, Carrefour and Albert but would they stock these? Otherwise, where would be best places - small off-licence maybe?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Kate

Piotr i Pawel is a store that sells everything. It's not big like a Tesco's, but has a good amt of liquor.

You can't buy Śliwowica in Warsaw. Śliwowica should by made and buy in £ącko.
Gruszkówka is also very good.

£ącko on map.

I strongly agree with pozorpozor! The best Sliwowica is only from Lacko!
You can't buy it in shop but you should ask anyone in the town because they know where to buy it :)
Local prices are about 35-40zl for Sliwowica (plums) and 15zl for Gruszkowka (pears) or Wisniowka (cherries).
Delicious!

I keep hearing about drinking apple juice with Zubrowka - now, would this be the cloudy kind of apple juice that you pick up in the healthfood stores, or should it be the clear, beer coloured stuff? Or does it not really matter?

Or maybe I should just get myself back over to Poland to find out for myself.

I have only ever had it with the clear stuff, but it is amazing! I would think it would work well either way.

Or maybe I should just get myself back over to Poland to find out for myself.

You could do that too! I haven't ever been there, but have had a good deal of Zubrowka and apple juice... Probably is even more amazing to have it there...

Poland also has some good flavoured beer at only 4.5% called Redds or Freeq. The beer I'm drinking now isn't classed as a strong one and it's 6% (Zubr). 4.5% is closer to what Brits are accustomed to. Zubrówka with apple juice is tasty too. Poles generally prefers clear vodkas unlike their Scandinavian counterparts who flavour it.

Can someone please tell me the Polish name for a (Polish??) alcoholic beverage I was given for Christmas, it's in a glass chicken (cockerel) bottle, marked at 18% and tastes a bit like watered down cherry brandy?
