Hey,

I currently live in Warsaw, and have noticed that donuts (the american ones) aren't very popular around here. Do you know where I can get good donuts in Warsaw? (the only place I know that sells them is "statoil").

Thanks, Paul

there is no such a thing as good American donuts and for that reason alone they are exclusive to North America lol Sorry, I am just being honest here.

Try Polish pączki:) and you might never go back.

I know that we all crave our local food but you are living in a country with very good pastry

I'm not sure what this has to do with donuts, but you can find yams and excellent plantains at Home Africa, a very decent African restaurant in Warsaw. Here's their [homeafricabar] website.

That is really a joke.
I am coming from a country - Belgium - where even the tiniest village has minimum two bakeries who produce on a daily basis all kinds of great stuff.

Here in Warsaw ? The best bread I find here is is the pre-bake in the Statoil gasoline stations.... What a choice. For the rest you have the choice between horrible Schulstadt "bread" or the equally horrendous CPC bread lookalikes...

I do not care about expensive pastry in Batida or so... after all not a daily commodity (although "let them eat cake" spings to my mind here), just good decent bread.

Here in Bielany nowhere to be found.

Not only do they sell them, but Charles De Gaulle used to eat them when he was in Warsaw. They may not be American style, but I'm with Miranda, Polish paczki are pretty damn good.

The nearest I've seen to an American style donut is in the tunnels under Warszawa Centralna, there is an open coffee counter with glazed donuts next to the underground entrance to Zlote Terasy.

well, I assumed that you were an American.

In that case you need to wait for people form Warsaw to help you and maybe with time you will stumble upon a place which will make you happy.

Try Blikle on Nowy Swiat!

I'm afraid those donuts are not what they used to be, small and expensive, they have little taste. Haven't tasted a good polish donuts for a long time

I'm from Belgium too and the poor quality of Polish bread was shocking to me as well. The bread available in supermarkets or small shops doesn't taste good at all, and is stale after a day or something. I do have a bakery in my town, where the bread is better quality, so it's not that bad after all.

Regarding the 'donuts', I found the paczki which you can buy in Chmielna (not far from Blikle :p) actually really great. They're still warm when u buy them, and the chocolate inside (when u buy one with chocolate inside! ;p) is still warm and liquid! Too bad I don't pass there often anymore :(

It's probably wise to go to McDonald's with a critical eye, but be aware that McDonald's sells many things in other countries that arent' sold in the U.S. Whether it's sold in the U. S. or not is not a good standard of measure. Last summer McDonald's in Poland had all kinds of shrimp dishes, in conjunction with the Olympics, that never saw the light of day in the U.S.

yup, there are many "seasonal" themes in McDonalds.. last time I actually really liked the "highlander" themed burgers..

If you only knew what ingrediants are used in these McDonalds donuts, a deadly cocktail of enhancers and fat, fat, fat. Still cannot work out why donuts are called donuts, I haven't seen any nuts in a donut!!!

First of all, if you want good tasting bread you don't go to a supermarket, but a BAKERY! (Most adviceable to do it in early in the morning when it is fresh.

Yeah for "American" donuts try Mcdonalds, but you should try the małe pączki near the post office on the Praga part of Warsaw. It's a little bit down towards the stadium from Rondo Wiatraczna

They are delicsious! All my friends eat them in a hurry when bring em from Poland :D
