Could someone please explain what the Checker is for on this web site. I know I may be classed as dumb but well it doesn't matter?

It's where you can keep track of all the recently posted-in threads throughout the entire site or in selected forums. If you check and refresh it daily it's a handy tool for keeping track of where people are posting on the forums and what "hot topics" there are. :)

I still don't understand it and I have read a similar explanations.

Basically it lists all the threads that have been posted in since you last checked it.

If you haven't used it for a while it'll be full so you should click on "reset the checking date". That can be found in black writing among the red writing at the top. Try todays date. It'll clear more of the threads. Clear the rest by scrolling down to the bottom and ticking the grey box next to "delete selected". Do this for each page until you have only a few threads left.

After doing that, if you use the checker each day you'll see which threads have been posted in (even after the disappear off the latest discussions page). Remember to deleted the selection each day though or you'll end up with hundreds.

Hope that helps a little more. :)

I just see a lot of guests kinda left hanging ha ha ha, they all look the same to me but if the buggers sign up perhaps they could have an introduction thread?

There is nothing like a warm welcome "céad míle fáilte" :)

It was only registered members who could make an introduction thread though, guests couldn't. ;)

Oh, ok.
I know some people sign up are insincere and have multiple versions of being the same fool but for those that are genuine I think it is a good idea, just suggesting.

In Admin we trust ha ha ha

The introductions thread was a nice idea but mostly the people who started threads there didn't go on to post or had their question answered within their introduction and never returned. :)

As a moderator it is vital.

If you like to imagine yourself as a moderator I suggest this task. Make sure you have all forums ticked in your checker options. Clear your checker to nothing and leave it 24 hours. Check it then and see how many threads you have in there. It'll be between 80 and 100 and then you can see that if you were a moderator that is how many threads you'd have to check. Not only the threads but the posts in those threads. Usually there is a thread or three where there are more than 20 posts to check. It doesn't sounds much but you should try it from the point of viewof the moderator. Check all the threads and all the posts... ;)

Well that is why it is called work, if you enjoy it too much it is something else, does that make any sence?

I hope you read my post above. It is work here but PF is something I believe a lot in so therefore it doesn't feel like work. It is something that I enjoy a lot. Apart from the odd little thing.

I enjoy moderating this site, I have learned a lot from it. :)
